Seagull RingFollow

I recently came back to the game after a lengthy absence, one thing I noticed was the plethora of new Fishing related equipment that had been added whilst I was away.

I plan to start questing my Ebisu soon, and the one that stood out the most was the Seagull Ring. Anyone have one? I'm curious as to how it compares to the Penguin Ring? I used to use my Penguin Ring a lot before I quit, and the difference it made was huge, is the Seagull ring anywhere near as noticable? Does it stack?

I've never done any MMM before, so I'd like some feedback as to whether the ring is worth the time and effort spent obtaining it. I assume its going to take a lot of work before I can even make the fishing maze required to obtain it?

The general agreement among fishermen I know is that it works roughly half as well as Penguin Ring (there is a definite difference). However, once you have it, you have unlimited use. Plus, if you un-equip it to fight, you don't lose the buff until a timer is up; you just re-equip it. Fishing Support lasts plenty long to get good use, and you can buy a fishing belt from the fishing guild at a pretty cheap price to get Fishing Support on the go. You may still wish to pursue Penguin Ring for Gugrusauri (or Liks to a lesser extent) depending on your own results. Seagull Ring seems to be better suited to fishing up other large or legendary fish to improve your overall fish/time while out fishing for gil/skill/synthesis.

There is also a Heron Ring from MMM which is the equivalent to Albatross Ring that also requires Fishing Support.

There are 2 other rings you should be aware of that are obtained from Inside the Belly. They are Puffin Ring and Noddy Ring. Check wiki for details.

Thats good to know, I'll still work on aquiring a new Penguin Ring (Seems sooo much harder since upgrading PC to pull up all the chests...).

As for Puffin/Noddy I already have a Noddy I spotted on the AH when I returned. The Puffin Ring however seems to be a very rare seller nowadays, so I'll probabally be better off trying to fish my own at some point.

Yeah I know all about that ring, out of countless runs I've had one drop (4th chest), which I no longer have :/

Puffin ring : 1 mil +
Noddy ring 400k or so.. these aren't cheap rings.

I actually have a heron ring which is also obtained from MMM because I had the worsed luck trying to get a seagul ring.
I haven't tried to mule my heron ring yet. I'd even try now but we got emergency server maint. :S

If no one else has posted here by tomorrow, I'll give it a try.

btw for future reference to people who want to mule an Ebisu fishing rod, it's a no-go I'm afraid. :s

Sorry for being slow to reply about muling rings, I've been stuck in the wilderness learning blue mage spells (which has been slightly hellish but that's another story) and keep forgetting to send stuff to my other characters.

However I do have some good news for you with respect to muling a heron ring.
Not only can you send a heron ring to your extra characters, you can send an albatros ring too.
So I can't see you having any issues with muling any other of the fishing rings as long as they are linked to your account.
I really do wish you the best of luck with obtaining your seagul ring but for me atm, I gave up on it long ago.
