Question about fishing systemFollow

Hello all,

I'm a returning player to the world of FFXI while I wait for FFXIV and even if this my first post even if I've been a long time lurker :)

I've quit playing FFXI for a long long time (around 2006) and when I came back I figured lot of things changed in the game as I could read around the net but there is something I don't think I've fully understood.

I've always been attracted by the Fishing system and in the past went all the way to artisan level fisherman, this is an hobby but also a way to "survive" and make some money... What I used to was to create one or two lv1 mule in windy/Sandy so that I could leave my main char around the world and fish for carps and such on my mules (slow but still good money and helped a lot against fishing fatigue and to get Lu shang quickly).

Now I've come back and tried to fish but I can't catch more than 10 fishes a day, I've read about the new (well old as it has been implemented in 2008...) antibot measure but which more or less says "...December 2008 Update, when you fish with a job level lower than 20, or it has been less than 2 weeks since your first log on with a new character, the maximum number of fish or items reeled in is lowered to 10 per real life day..." and I was wondering, do I need to level my mule to lv20 to have the restriction lifted? Or even if it is lv1 after 14 days the restriction will be lifted no matter the level?

Sorry if this sound a dumb question (and prolly is...) but even googling I could not find an answer to this question :( I would love to keep fishing with my mules as I always used to do, it's a great time saver for me and made it possible to fish @ the office during lunch break... I would gladly avoid to level another char to 20 if I can avoid it...

Thanks in advance to anyone answering this poor noob question.

F.

Hey, Welcome back...

To answer your question, yes you will need to level each mule to level 20 to be able to break the 10 fish a day cap, you will then be free to catch up to 200 fish a day :)

In all honestly leveing jobs up to 20 does not take very long with the new Fields of Valor. Last week I went from level 10 - 25 in about 7 hours with no party, no PL and no SubJob on a mule just to see how quickly I could do it.

my advice would be, take your mules out on Warrior or Monk with signet until level 10, then pop to a guard and buy an EXP ring, use it and keep leveling until you hit level 20, you can easily get to level 15 in a few hours just beating on EP/DC mobs in the zones outside any city then more to the next zone for 15-25 keeping FoV on every hour for added EXP boost.

Hope this helps.

The Qufim Fisher - Dissolving some myths, No I do not have 999billion gil on 16 mules, I do not have any job at 75 or higher, Yes I've been playing since before Lakshmi was opened, No I do not have 12 arms and 6 heads contorling 18 chars at once, I level all my jobs through solo work. No I'm not RMT and No I won't fish for you for free. When I'm fishing I rarely speak unless I know you.

These are just a few that I've been told in the past few weeks, please stop spreading them.

Hi Nuker,

thanks a lot for you kind and quick reply!

You helped me a lot... even if I did not like the reply (not your fault ehehe) I understand SE did this for bots/RMT which, for what I've seen, still plague the game...

Well I'll do as you suggested, I rolled an RDM but guess I'll just roll a MNK to be quicker to level :D

Thanks again and see you around the forum.

Fish.

I think you have to do both, but I wouldn't know, I've only ever had one character.

I do know that people that have been playing this game for a while (much longer than two weeks) will suddenly find themselves under the fishing restriction again if they try to fish again when switched to a <20 job.

Ohhhh wonderful again SE -.-

I perfectly understand this has been done for a reason, we all know I guess, but yet can't see the sense of it all...

I mean when I used to play FF it was plagued by Gil sellers (or RMT if you prefer) but at laest I was not receiving 100 tells a session with strange stuff in them of RMT trying to sell me Gil, PL and Viagra for my char (whcih is a Mithra btw O.o).

Again I find this plan stupid as RMT will continue to stay there, bot and do whatever they usually do while we "honest" players will pay the consequences of this all, sorry for the rant but it makes me frustrated as since I started all over again even my main char is still 18 and bringing another to 20 is not that fun for me :)

But well they make the rules... Anyhow Fyn for your input which I found valuable ^^

While many of the anti-RMT changes aren't popular, they do tend to be effective. Sometimes it takes a while tough. Fishing went through several changes, but the lvl 20 cap seemed to have stumped RMT. The 200/day catch limit on normal fishing does hamper players, although the time it takes to get to 200 usually exceeds the fishing time of normal players anyway. Personally I only ran into it during the weekends, fishing before and after sleep.

Cutting the NPC sell prices of farmed items has hurt some players, but we all know that sooner or later RMT would have completely dominated it. They're like vultures. One smells a karkass, and pretty soon you got every vulture in a 50km radius homing in on it, driving out players in the process.

The spam filter seems to be a failure. RMT get around it with gibberish and spam tells are on the rise, although it seems to me that less RMT companies are still bothering with it compared to before the filter. The remaining maggots are simply more tenacious.
