Chocobo Raceing questionFollow

Alright so i'm kind of stumped on this one I have 2 Chocobos with the following stats

STR: First Class
Endurance: Better then average
Rec: Poor
Disc: Poor
Ability: Canter

Black (currently raiseing)
Str: Outstanding
End: Impressive
Rec: Poor
Disc: Poor
Ability: Gallop

Now the red one i've been useing as a racer and can generally beat all the non-super chocobos besides a regular galka one occasionally in the free-run races. However, the black chocobo occasionally loses to non-super chocobos. So am i missing something? I assumed that with gallop STR: would be up to First Class and with Endurance at Impressive it would have an advantage over the red chocobo but it isnt. The only theory i can really think of is that the chocobos get better the more you race them or that gallop isnt as strong as a full stat increase. Any thoughts?

How old is your choco? You need some discernment and receptivity. Strength and Endurance will have to be 1st class if you dont have the disc. and recp. I also do not believe you can get Cantor to go with your Gallop if you do not have discernment to average.
There are good guides for raising chocos for racing. To be honest it is not simple and takes some thought and strategy.
I would recommend getting the green silk racing jacket for raising the chicks. It really does seem to help.
There are a lot of tricks to getting a winning choco but these are a good start.

I already know about the raiseing chocobo guides currently finishing STR/END then doing the DSCs tokens/Basic Care trick to learn canter and raiseing end later. Figure as long as i get canter i'll be ok because i can upgrade the rest with tokens from free-runs even if it retires up to cap.

"raceing" =/= "raiseing"

or, for the literate...

racing =/= raising
