Mining - Khroma OreFollow

I've been up in Mount Z trying to mine this damn ore. I've heard accounts of people pulling up two in a 8 hour time frame. Here I am with 10+hours over the span of a couple days and the best I have to show for it is 5 Adaman ores.

I want to drill a hole in my head to stop the mind numbing boredom of mining for so long in that awful zone. I'm starting to think being able to mine this damn ore in Mount Z is a myth.

So here I am, I gotta ask, how are the people trying to mine in Mount Z fairing? If you can, tell me how long it takes you to mine one of these suckers.

It's a little iffy. I've gone and obtained Khroma on my first pickaxe. And i've gone without any for 14 consecutive hours.

All i can really say is that the chance of obtaining one is low. Very low. I have however found the joys of having my PSP at hand again because of this. I can run around and mine as well as play Disgaea 2 on the PSP without all too many problems, sometimes i just camp a single point somewhere so i dont have to bother moving too much and just play on the PSP...

If you're really jumping for this ore, but the whole mining is starting to get rediculous for you, there -is- that whole ISNM that drops it. Pickup group can beat it in 3 minutes.

Its roughly 150+ pickaxes or 5+ solid hrs of mining for a khroma ore werid thing is after receiving the ore theres a chance to receive another one(in short time).

That's not called wierd, that's called random. It's how mining works. As with anything that has a certain probability to happen on any given chance, you can calculate how many chances you need to have a 50% probability that you'll "win". Or 90%, or whatever other % you want. But it's still random. And for khroma ore specifically, the rate is very, very low.

For me, I usually go about 300-400 pickaxes, or 30+ stacks before seeing a khroma. -.- Usually about one per week, maybe two if I'm lucky. Hence I no longer mine.

Dear Mr.Noodles.
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Mining
(nice pretty printable maps of all the mining areas in ffxi.)
Mount Zhayolm Is 20 mining points and your chances of hitting your sweet ore strike.

Sulfur Very Common(22.5%)
Iron Sand Common(15.9%)
Flint Stone Common(15.4%)
Iron Ore Common(16.8%)
Bomb Ash Uncommon(13.4%)
Moblin Mail Rare(9.6%)
Demon Horn Very Rare(2.2%)
Moblin Helm Rare(8.3%)
Moblin Armor Very Rare(4.5%)
Adaman Ore Very Rare(0.8%)
Troll Pauldron Very Rare(3.8%)
Troll Vambrace Very Rare(3.1%)
Moblin Mask Very Rare(3%)
Khroma Ore Very Rare(0.4%)

If your new to mining Mount Z. I'd recommend White Mage Subjob if not using it as your main job while mining.
Setup your moghouse for Mog enhancement:Experience
(death is quite common result of extended mining in dangerous area and it can be frustrating)
Reraise is your friend here.

Purchase the following gearups as soon as possible.
Field/Worker Tunic, Field/Worker Gloves, Field/Worker Boots
Skulker Mantle - (enhances Sneak and Invisible) Doubling the Time your sneak and invisible stay up. a Very Useful item.

It may take weeks before you hit Khroma Ores.. You might never hit Khroma Ore. But your gaining other items while your searching for the big payoff..

Focus on crafts that can turn the other items on the list into gil.

Alchemy, Smithing, GoldSmithing.. woodworking (if your going with fishing pole plan.)

If your able to convert the adaman ores into ingots and convert the moblin gear into ingots. moblin masks and armor into leather or glass fibers.

you can convert the glass fibers into fishing poles. and all the other trash into steel ingots and bullets.

Everytime you move the Raw Product up the Craft Chain into more useful items.

Depends on Server Economy though so check with ffxiah on your server.. for niche markets.

If you can turn the 50 or so moblin masks into glass fibers and fishing rods
Moblin Mask - Alchemy (29) Desynth.

Troll Brass Sheets Dont Sell very well but the clubs you can make from them do sell very nicely if your a high level smith.

demon horn. bone chip wind crystal makes demon arrowheads - nice if your ranger with scavange. if not its at least 4-5k each horn on ah.. and they sell very quickly.

as frustrating as this area is to mine.. There is still good money here even with pick axe costs and deaths..

you got 5 adamant ores.. somedays i mine with no adamant ores.. stacks of flint stones and sulfur.. but even with bad days. travel expenses and pick axe expenses. i wind up with a full goblin bag of loot to dump on ah and sometimes its good to get away from the xp party grind and ls to do your own thing.

To often in this game you get caught up in helping other people and powerleveling.. that you lose your Greedalox abilitys.

Unlearn all that party junk n friends who use you for thier self-advancement...

This is about You and your trusty shovel and your inner GREEDALOX!

Best of Luck

/NIN is counter productive if you are trying to MAKE gil. I just carry an emergency stack of powders/oils.

All comes down to preference (wiki still list adaman ore as very rare) not really the case (which would easily pay for tool stacks depending on your server) but 99 > 12 and theres shadows allowing you to take hits before zoning if needed (darn wamouras).

Its not good because he copy and paste wiki drop rate %s in which anyone can change the % making khroma drop more then it should or make it way higher then it needs to be. It is there to give you a rough estimate.

The /WHMs will have reraise anyway.

Honestly, if you're pulling hate at all, regardless of sub, ur doin it rong. There are a billion and a half safe places to recast as /mage (read: any of the 70 tunnels on the map) and there are safe spots at pretty much every mining point as long as you have sneak up. Zhayolm mining is honestly some of the easiest mining in the game.

Positioning is important in tunnel as clots will argo even if you recast at the mining point. Theres also magic argoing wamouras that likes to say hi from afar. All comes down to preferance really.

I don't know if I trust the #'s but I haven't done enough mining myself in that hell hole. Though I have watched my friend average 1/60 picks or so pulling up 10+ in the past week.

You can roughly average one per day (I had a friend mining all day) if you spend your entire time mining but you can also find yourself at 1 per acouple of days.

I've found that the best attitude for mining here is to just expect that you won't get any Khroma Ore and just focus on making money from other things you find. Then you won't be disappointed if you don't get any, but it'll be a pleasant surprise when you do. The first time I mined here I found 3 in a day, but I've gone 40 or so stacks of picks without getting one also.

As far as jobs, I've been going on SAM/DNC with an Earth Staff for Seigan, and just using Field gear, a Reraise Earring and Sprinter's Shoes and it seems to work pretty well.

i go nin/dnc with my melee gear waiting in the wings to macro just incase i do aggro.

Genreally speaking, and i havent done this in months, i was getting atleast 1 per day in a 4 hour mining trip, and occasionally 2.

However i also found that i was making a hell of alot more money synthing the iron ore into ingots, turning sulfur and bomb ash into firesand, and making tama-hagane, demon horns into arrowheads, and desything moblin gear.

all in all, just in random crap i was making 400-600k per 4-5 hour stints, and that was not including khroma. (hint: make the iron ingot, make the firesand, make the iron bullets, sell the bullets = win)

But if you follow Aryden's post it makes easier it to make gil then waiting and relying on khroma to fund everything.

I used to mine here BST/DNC or /WHM. While I mined here for the adaman ores to level off smithing, the once in a blue m,oon k.ores were just icing for me. Turning Adaman ores into Gem gear once a week was win =D

I make away decently here with the random stuff I get from mining. But finally I mined up a K.ore! It took about 12 stacks of pickaxes, which isn't that bad considering I made quite a bit off the other things too.

Hi guys, long time Mount Z miner here. Maybe I can shed some light on these rare ores.

First off, you can start mining there and perhaps find one early. Then again you can be there for awhile and not find one. That's the randomness for you but that's just how it works.

I've mined the mountain for more than a year off and on but on the days I do mine, I'm usually doing one or two runs a day - each run is 5 stacks of pickaxes and enough crystals for synths / desynths. It generally can take anywhere from 1.5 to 4 hours to complete a run depending on how the mining points pan out + traffic + deaths etc..

Fastest I've seen these ores come up (only twice so far) are two in one day - or two during the same run. It's very very rare though. Generally, it's been one or so a day for me with the fastest time I've seen between ores be about 5 minutes and the longest time, 8 DAYS (and yes that was mining pretty much straight for that time too /sigh). I've roughly calculated the ore to drop at about 0.025% - it is NOT common but it does exist!

Whether you're veteran or new to mining, I don't want to paint this as a bad place to mine. Sure you get junk but that's the same everywhere. There are more than enough chances for iron ores and adaman now and then amongst a lot of desynthables that will help to slowly give you gil over time. You can go there for the Khroma but don't be discouraged if one doesn't show up right away - it just takes patience and persistence. Having smithing leveled past the 50s will also assist tremendously in getting the most bang for your buck from the time spent on that rock.

Hope this helps :)
