So i am finally unable to resist playing anymore, and after 2 years of being away from the game, i have returned. Currently i am on the Hades sever, with about 800k, and a few million in gear. My cloth craft is at 54, and i was wondering is it worth it to spend the gil to take it to 75. I imagine i can farm some of the silk myself (have 46 thf), but even with that i can realisticly get the 15-20 stacks of silk ive read i need.
I wouldn't go through the trouble of farming silk threads, really.
As for today, the economy on Hades regarding silk is such that you can at profit buy silk threads (not from AH, they are about 12K a stack there, but from guild shop, where they usually sell for less then 10K a stack on low days) and turn them into cloths (selling for around 40K). Assuming you can buy a stack of threads for 10K, you can make approx. a stack of threads profit for each stack of cloths sold. So you could just buy 4 stacks of thread, turn them into cloth, sell one stack of cloth to break even and keep the rest for skilling up (e.g. green ribbon synth). With what you make from selling the green ribbons to NPC, you can more than make up for possible breaks during the process.
Regarding your farming intentions, I'm sure there is something better you can farm as a 47 THF besides silk thread. You could just farm something more rewarding, sell that for profit and use that to fund your Clothcrafting. Don't make the mistake to only farm what you really need. Focus on farming what brings in the best return of effort. Often it is better to farm something else for gil and simply buy what you need from AH or vendor.
So, if spent the 800k or so i have on clothcraft, did you think i would see a return? sorry if this post in kinda newbish, ive been gone for ALONG time so i am kinda out of the loop ^^
That is a question I cannot answer for you, I'm sorry. It will totally depend on your effort to research the market, optimize your skilling up and selling off stocks, farming habits, ... Having a level 70 CC mule myself, all I can say is that the stretch from 55-70 in CC was not exactly the most rewarding in my crafting career. But now that I'm up to the spider web => rainbow thread => rainbow cloth levels, I can make a profit while skilling up again, even if I simply buy all the webs from AH.
It also depends on what subcrafts you have available. If you happen to have Goldsmithing somewhere around 40, your situation is looking a bit better since you can skill-up on gold thread (try stealing gold beastcoins as a farming goal). Depending on how 'cheap' you can get the gold ingots, this should be possible at profit or break even at worst. I leveled CC from 54 to 57 and at the same time GS from 38 to 41 on my main less then a month ago making gold thread. Nothing sweeter than leveling up two rather difficult crafts at the same time
Finally, my ever returning advice to crafters... if you are taking up crafting only for the possible huge benefits (aka 'get filthy rich in a night'), throw in the towel right now. Don't do it. Chances are very high you will be sorely disappointed.
If, on the other hand, you are crafting because you enjoy it and like the possibility to make your own gear, or turn worthless stuff into something more valuable and you don't mind some (possibly hard) extra effort to do your research... by all means go ahead.
I'm sure there is still money to be made with CC (with any craft for that matter), it is just finding the way to do so that is getting harder and harder. Exactly that is the real challenge of leveling up a craft, the rest is merely grinding through synths (possibly at break even or profit).
