Arkenstone's Bonecraft Guide (0-100)

Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of bonecraft. Bonecraft is one of the lesser explored crafts, but can be fun and profitable. This guide will serve as a reference to help you gain skill and find materials. If you have any comments or suggestions, feel free to reply!

Purpose: A easy to read 0-100 bonecraft guide and a list of bonecraft material sources.

Recipe Guide: Recipes will follow this syntax:
Synthesis Result (N) -- Crystal, Ingredient1 x1 + Ingredient x2 what to do with them

For example:
Bone Arrowheads (9) -- Wind, Bone Chip x2 AH in San d'Oria

where N is the recipe level cap.

Table of contents:
I) 0-9 Lots of Little Chips
II) 9-25 Mad Mandy and Many Rings
III) 25-53 Arrowheads Galore
IV) 53-60 It Tastes like Fiend Blood
V) 60-82 Demons, Scorpions, and Tigers (oh my)
VI) 82-100 The Final Stretch
VII) Test Synths
VIII) Ingredients and How to Get Them
IX) Guild Points
X) References
XI) Acknowledgements

I) 0-9 Lots of Little Chips
Almost every recipe in bonecraft requires a bonechip. Go early to the bonecraft guild and buy em, get them from the AH (Windurst AH will be the most expensive), excuvate them, or go to Gusgen mines and farm skeletons.

Bone Hairpin (4) -- Wind, Bone Chip x1 npc: ??? gil
Bone Arrowheads (9) -- Wind, Bone Chip x2 AH in San d'Oria

Bone Hairpin is a very simple synth, sell at AH for slight profit, or to vendor for break even.

Arrowheads are gold in bonecraft (usually), and you will learn to love em. Sell them in San d'Oria for profit or level wood working and make your own arrows for the most profit.

II) 9-25 Mad Mandy and Many Rings
The first synth looks like a sink, but if you're creative, you will break even. The second two will break even on AH or be a loss to vendor. Dont worry about losing money here, stage III will bring it back!

Cornette (14) {Gold (14)} -- Wind, Bone Chip x1 + Brass Ingot x1 madragora mad quest
Bone Ring (17) -- Wind, Sheep Tooth x1 + Bone Chip x1 npc: 309 gil (high fame)
~~Bone Pick (23) {Wood (6)} -- Wind, Giant Femur x1 + Ash Lumber x1 npc: ??? gil
Beetle Ring (25) -- Wind, Beetle Jaw x1 AH any city, npc: 603 gil (high fame)

Cornettes can be a break-even or small profit synth, if you are creative about it. First level goldsmithing to 3 from {Copper Ingot (3) -- Fire Crystal, Copper Ore x4}. Sell the copper ingots at the AH in Bastok for profit (if you buy copper for 10 gil at guild or airship vendor). Then level goldsmithing to 9 from {Brass Ingot (9) -- Fire Crystal, Copper Ore x3 + Zinc Ore x1) and save these for the cornettes. Make as many cornettes as your inventory will hold.

Then create a mule character in windhurst and give all the cornettes to that character. The mule will then turn the cornettes in for the Mandragora Mad quest, and eventually earn enough fame to get a scroll of aspir. See When You Get Tired of Farming for details ;). Thanks Jute! When you sell the scroll, you will have earned enough to break even on the whole package!

Bone Ring sells for break even to vendors, or you can try your luck at the AH for a little more profit. If you like sheep farming, kill some in Konstant Highlands and your bound to get tons of these. You can also use the skins to start leveling leathercraft, because your gonna need it at later levels.

If you want to bridge the 8 level difference you can try to make some bone picks(With ~3 or greater woodworking skill). I didn't; I went straight to Beetle Ring.

Beetle Jaws are fairly expensive and rare, and npc sellback for Beetle Ring is a loss. You can try your luck at beetle farming in Junger Forrest(or anywhere beetles roam), but I warn you that the jaws are hard to come by. You can also try to desynth (Beetle Jaw (25) -- Lightning, Beetle Ring x1) the ring to get back a beetle jaw and a chance at skillups. Beetle rings are also used for the Give your moogle a break quest, so you might be able to sell alot during the saturday-sunday-monday time frame.

III) 25-53 Arrowheads Galore
Welcome to the wonderful world of arrowheads. For the next 28 levels you will skill solely off these wonderful things. Arrowheads are great synths, because if you sell them in San d'Oria, you usually can make out with a slight profit. Arrowheads are constantly in demand from woodworkers, because most woodworking guides follow the same pattern of synthesizing arrows. (beetle -> fang -> horn -> scorpion). So sell them in sandy, ah them there, mule them there, park your bazzar out of the wood workers guild, these suckers will fly off the shelves. And if you are a syntaholic like me, you can level woodworking and bonecraft at the same time off these suckers!

Beetle Arrowheads (33) -- Wind, Bone Chip x1 + Beetle Jaw x1 AH in San d'Oria
Fang Arrowhead (38) -- Wind, Black Tiger Fang x1 + Bone Chip x1 AH in San d'Oria
Horn Arrowheads (43) -- Wind, Ram Horn x1 + Bone Chip x1 AH in San d'Oria
~~Carapace Mask (45) -- Earth, Crab Shell x1 + Dhalmel Leather x1 npc: ??? gil
Scorpion Arrowheads (53) -- Wind + Scorpion Claw x1 + Bone Chip x1 AH in San d'Oria

For beetle arrowheads, you can farm the beetle jaws from beetles in Junger Forest or elsewhere.

For fang arrowheads, you can farm the fangs off the tigers in Junger or Beaudacine Glacier. The AH price per fang will probably always be priced higher than 700 gil because of the San d'Orian quest (3 fangs for 2100),

For horn arrowheads, you can farm the horns off rams in La Tiene or Konstant. This is also a great time to level Leathercraft using Ram Leather, otherwise you can sell the skins in San d'Oria.

If you want to do a bridge synth, make a few Carapace Masks. I just went straight to scorpion arrowheads and did not regret it.

For scorpion arrowheads, you can farm the scorpion claws off of scorpions in Maze of Shrakahami, but by just purchasing claws from the ah, you can make 400-800 gil a synth on my server! Skillups slow down drastically at 50, as you need to do about 30 synths per level from now on. Advanced synth support is a must for the large gap here.

IV) 53-60 It Tastes like Fiend Blood
Just two more synths and you've made it all the way to 60! Go ahead and celebrate, and make some beetle ring +1's. You've earned it!

Blood Stone (57) -- Wind, Fiend Blood x1 + Grass Thread x1 + Giant Femur x1 AH any city
Scorpion Ring (60) -- Wind, Scorpion Shell x1 AH in Jeuno

Blood Stone consistently sell at any ah for about breakeven (on my server). But if you have to npc them, they only net 23-26 gil ><.

Scorpion rings sell at the jeuno AH for about breakeven (if you dont flood the market). Otherwise you can sell them to NPC for a big loss. Another option is to desynth the rings you make, and if you get a scorpion shell back, go ahead and craft the ring again. Dont stay too long on these because you may be able to profit significantly off the next synth (you guessed it, arrowheads).

V) 60-82 Demons, Scorpions, and Tigers (oh my)
So you've decided to take the road of bonecraft past 60. Join me on this new adventure of more expensive ingredient and more potential for loss and gain. I am slowly gaining in skill each day, and as I do, I will continue to share my insight and wisdom. If there are any +60 bonecrafters out there who can give me a few hits, reply below so I can share your knowledge.

Demon Arrowheads (63) -- Wind, Bone Chip x1 + Demon Horn x1 AH in San d'Oria
Scorpion Mask (64) -- Earth, Ram Leather x1 + Scorpion Shell x1 npc: ??? gil
~~Scorpion Leggings (65) {Leather (--)} -- Earth, Pugil Scales x1 npc: ??? gil
                         + Scorpion Shell x1 + Ram Leather x2
~~Scorpion Subligar (67) {Leather (--)} -- Earth, Scorpion Shell x1 npc: ??? gil
                         + Ram Leather x1 + Linen Cloth x1
Bone Patas (68) -- Fire, Carbon Fiber x1 + Giant Femur x2 npc: ??? gil
                         + Crab Shell x1
~~Demon's Ring (70) -- Wind, Fish Scales x1 + Demon Horn x1 AH in Jeuno
Tiger Fangs (79) -- Wind, Black Tiger Fang x2 + Scorpion Shell x1 npc: ??? gil
                         + Carbon Fiber x1
Saintly Ring (81) -- Earth, Fish Scales x1 + Ascetic's Ring x1 AH in any city
Eremite's Ring (82) -- Earth, Sheep Tooth x1 + Hermit's Ring x1 AH in any city

Demon arrowheads look to be a good profit. I quickly looked at this and if I buy the horns at the AH for 15k each, I can sell stacks for 36-40k and make a 6-10k profit; sweet! I think I will try to start these at 58 or 59 for more profit.

If the Scorpion Gear sells to npc for a decent price it may be worth the hassle. If not, move on to Bone Petas. Make your own ram leather if possible. Forget about making the Scorpion Harness for a while as a Venonous claw goes for 4 million gil + on my server.

I am told Bone Petas will sell for a loss to npc, but the ingredients are reasonibly cheap, so the loss isn't as much. Save one for your guild test.

If Demon's ring is a big money loser, move onto tiger fangs. Losing a scorpion shell is nothing compared to blowing up a demon horn.

Tiger Fangs, from what I'm told, will sell to npc for break even. You may fail alot in the beginning, but it's better than losing a demon horn. Advanced synth support is a must for the early levels ,as you will be doing this synth for 11 levels! Breaks will be common at the start, but as you skill up, they will be less common. Now may be a good time to stop and gather some guild points. The bonecraft specs and apron will cut the 11 level gap to a more resonible 9. If this truely is break even milk it all the way to 68.

The Saintly and Ermite's upgrade should be a nice treat. Ascetic Rings can be aquired eaisly in King Ranperres Tomb by killing the worms. Hermitt's Rings can be aquired eaislt in Dangruff Wadi by killing worms there. Both are frequent, I've had farming trips where I've ended up with 6! Even purchasing them off the ah will result in profit.

VI) 82-100 The Final Stretch
This will probably be an extremely expensive time. If I ever do make it to 100 i'm gonna celebrate sign myself a scorpion harness+1 :D. I have merely included all the remaining synths, as I don't know which will be worthwile. Behemoth's horns go for a million on my server, so I think behemoth ring and behemoth dagger will be out of the question. I hear that post 90 skillup rate drops in half again, so your doing ~60 Synths per level. Again more words of wisdom to come as I reach this level.

Dragon Mask (87) -- Wind, Sheep Leather x1 + Wyvern Scales x2 npc: 8036 gil
Carapace Gauntlets (92) -- Earth, High Quality Crab Shell x2 + Leather Gloves x2 npc: 6000 gil
Carapace Helm (93) -- Earth, Copper Ingot x1 + High Quality Crab Shell x2 npc: ??? gil
                          + Sheep Leather x1 + Ram Leather x1
~~Mammoth Tusk (94) -- Wind, Giant Frozen Head x1 npc: 2800 gil
~~Acheron Shield (96) -- Earth, Adamantoise Shell x2 + Ram Leather x1 npc: ??? gil
Scorpion Gauntlets (96) -- Wind, High Quality Scorpion Shell x2 npc: 5800 gil
                          + Leather Gloves x2
Scorpion Helm (97) {Leather (--)} -- Earth, High Quality Scorpion Shell x2 npc: ??? gil
                          + Sheep Leather x1 + Tiger Leather x1 + Copper Ingot x1
Scorpion Breastplate (99) -- Earth, High Quality Scorpion Shell x4+ Ram Leather x2 npc: ??? gil
                          + Sheep Leather x1
~~Dragon Ring (99) -- Earth, Dragon Talon x2 ???
Cursed Harness (100) {Leathercraft (--)} -- Earth, Coral Fragment x1 AH: Jeuno
                          + Tiger Leather x2 + Oxblood x1 + Angel Skin x1
Gavial Mask (100) -- Earth, Titanticus Shell x1 npc: 500 gil :(
+ High Quality Pugil Scales x1 + Sheep Leather x1
Chronos Tooth (100) -- Wind, Colossal Skull x1 npc: 2800 gil

From 82-87 begin making Dragon Masks. You can sell these to NPC for 7.8k each (i hear), so if the wyvern scales are ~3.5k each you can profit by making your own sheep leather or by desynthing leather belts (selling iron ingots = free sheep leather).

From 87-92 move on to caraprace gauntlets, I am told these will net a fair price from npc and you will only lose 2-3k a synth. A good source of the gloves is the armor vendors in Southern San d'Oria or Port Windhurst. I

Caprace Helm will probably sell to npc for about the same price as the gauntlets, so continue and make this for one level.

After 93 i'm not sure what to do next. Gavial gear look like it will be extremely expensive with the Rainbow Thread and Titanticus shell and the npc rate is horrible (i hear). I've never seen a giant frozen head, and i dont know what a mammoth tusk is for, so this doesnt look like a good synth. Carapace breastplate includes a carapace harness, and with all the ingredients for both synths it will probably be undervalued when sold to NPC.

Scorpion gauntlets look like the best bet for the next synth from 93-96. Leather gloves can be purchased from the armor vendors in Southern San d'Oria or Port Windhurst for cheap. Scorpion helm looks like a good follow on synth for 96-97 if you have the leathercraft levels (I'm guessing 60).

Scorpion Breastplate will probably be the best bet from 97-99 and should npc for similar prices to the gauntlets and helm (and hopefully more).

And when you reach 99, you can have fun making a few Cursed Harnesses (for arjubuation), or Chronos Tooth (used to upgrade a relic weapon). If you are one of the few bonecrafters this high, there may be a demand for chronos tooth. Your other option is Gavial Mask which i am told that npc's will give you a measely 500 gil for all the expensive ingredients. Titanticus Shell can be obtained from desynthing the Titanticus fish, and HQ Pugil scales can be obtained from desynthing Gavial Fish or Armored Pisces.

Whew!

As far as the sub craft levels for these synths, i can't possible believe they are higher than 60. Allakahazam has Wyvern Helm as 98 bone, 98 leather, but that just isn't possible. Since you can only have 40 levels above 100, the max it can be is 62. I will report back when i get there.

VII) Test Synths
Every 10 levels, Peshi Yohnts, the bonecraft guildmaster, will ask you to give her an item in order for you to advance in rank. For the first item, you can give her a shell ring between levels 8-10. If you dont you will be capped at level 10, and will not be able to advance in skill. You can either craft these items, or purchase them at the AH.

Recruit - test 8-10
Shell Ring (7) -- Wind, Seashell + Fish Scales

Initiate - test 18-20
Bone Ring (17) -- Wind, Sheep Tooth + Bone Chip

Novice - test 28-30

VIII) Ingredients and how to get them

Bone Chips - Kill skeletons in Gusgen Mines, King Ranperes Tomb.

Turtle Shell - rare excuvation result in Korolka Tunnel, desynthing shell shields

IX) Guild Points
When you reach Apprentice level (38), you can begin to collect guild points. Guild points are use to purchase items to increase your bonecrafting skills, items allow you to syntesize with anima, and high quality crystals that allow you to sign items you synthesize. Each earth day, Samigo-Pormigo, in the Bonecraft guild in Windhurst, will ask you to make an item for the guild. Trading the item to here will give you a number of guild points. Once you have enough guild points, you can trade them for the items.

Items you can get

Any Rank: HQ Cryatals -- allow you to sign your synth
200 GP Inferno, Glacier, Cyclone, Terra, Plasma, or Torrent Crysals
500 GP Aurora, or Twilight Crystals

From 1-55 I made a slight profit from turning all the arrowheads into arrows.

From 60-82 I think i can make it with 400k. This all depends on npc sell back rate tho.

82-90 will probably cost a million, and 90-100 will cost millions (I dont want to think about it yet).

Great place for bone chips on even lower level skeles is in King Ransperre's Tomb. Lots of skeles, and you can run back at night for the Spook and Crypt Ghost spawns as well and try to make a little on the side. Just a tip ^^

You know that beetle parts drop off of any beetle? I was fairly suprised to see this myself, but a Scarab Beetle in East Ronfaure gave me a jaw and shell from one kill. If you are high enough level, farm jaws in Eastern Altepa, they seemed to be fairly common there when I was leveling.

If you are really serious about bonecrafting, lots of exp mobs drop parts, such as the myriad crabs you fight, Snippers/Clippers/Robbers so and so, Beetles of the 100 varieties, keep a hold of those things in the end.

For turtle shells, just go to Either South or North Gustaberg, Konschtat Highlands, Palborough Mines, train the whole zone of quadavs, they drop backplates (amythest) which you can sell and turn around and buy more supplies, and young quadavs, your main target for shell shields. Those are common drops. Plus you will be getting gil per kill since they are beastmen plus various other random drops.

If you want sheep teeth, also try,

North/South Gustaberg, East/West Ronfaure, La Theine Plateau, Valkurm Dunes, Jugner Forest, Beadeaux. These all have sheep family in them, so check those out. Dont' forget you can make your own leather from the skins that will inevitably drop from the sheep as well. I know a lot of bonecrafting requires various leathers, such as sheep.

Bonecraft seems one of the roads less traveled, good job and rate up.

I found a post a while back that had every Guild Point item in it and how much Points total you can get for X # of items turnd in. What i did was expand on that.

First is the NAME of the item, then HOW MANY POINTs each item turnd in is worth, next is HOW MANY TOTAL points you can get for X #turnd in, lastly is how many items it takes to get "full" points

Ex:

Shell Earing is worth 151 guild points per ear. 2800 guild points when you turn in 12 ear ring.

This list isn't finished yet, im currently 53 Bonecraft.
What im trying to do here is make a complete list that goes in order so you never have to talk to the person to fnd out which item you have to make for that day and how much it's worth.

WARNING: That's not the best idea to do because you might have missed a day or 2. But you wont have to turn in items and keep checking how many points you have left to get.

This starts with Bone Ring, but as you can see i've found many others individual points and how many they take. I resently started to do this again and started this 4 days ago. Bone Rod being todats Jan. 7th. Each day the items changes for me at 10am east time.

Bonecraft

Bone Ring 302 GP-2720-9

Bone Harness 362 GP-3040-8

Beetle Leggings 966 GP-4480-5

Carapace Gorget 2310 GP-5840-3

Bone Rod 1122 GP-4880-4

A few corrections for 82-100. I believe my NPC price for dragon masks (with maxed fame) was 8,036.

Carapace gauntlets were around 5900-6k to NPC's I think, so you are looking at at least a 6k loss per synth (on my server at least).

After those do Carapace helms + Mammoth tusks -> 93/94. The giant frozen heads are a drop from dynamis. You can also mix in some Scorpion Gauntlets; after Carapace Gauntlets materials will be rare, so you need to make whatever you can when any of these materials are available. A good source of Leather gloves is the armor NPC in Port WIndurst or the Armor shop in Southern San d'oria.

As early as 92/93, you can start making the two items that will take you to 100: Gavial Masks and Chronos Teeth. You will find yourself making more masks since Colossal Skulls don't sell too often. For masks, try to find some high level fishing buddies and ask them to fish Gavial Fish + Titanicus + Armored Pisces. (You desynth these for HQ pugil scales and Titanicus shells). At times I had 4 friends fishing for me at once, they would put fish in bazaar, I would buy and synth on the spot to save space.

Also, the recipe for Carapace Breasteplate here is wrong. It doesn't invlove a Carapace Harness; the recipe is Earth + Sheep Leather + 2 Ram Leather + 4 HQ Crab shells.

For all recipe's refer to this site: http://www.ffrecipe.com/

Very nice guide. Its not in the sticky because its relatively new. Its also a composite of two guides basically (a guide from 0-60 and a guide from 60-92 with commentary that leads up to 100) which are already stickied. Nonetheless it is nice to have info all together.

A bit of a side note, but you can _STEAL_ bone chips from almost any skeleton type mob. May not seem like much, in fact, before I became a bonecrafter, I sold them when I was helping w/ LB1 and whatnot, but it's still a nice little bonus on the side. :) Also, skip blood stones, they suck. Badly. Go straight to scorpion rings; I think I only lost ~100 gil a synth making them and selling them to the guild/shops. That ain't bad. And the shells are really cheap, too; topping at 1000, but more around 400-600.

Scorp shells vary from server to server. When I leveled bone I paid 1k each. But currently they are up to 1.8k a shell. However blood stones DO NOT SELL on my server. When I check the AH history 1-2 sell a day in each town. Thats way too much running around and tieing up of valuable AH space to get back a couple hundred gil.

Yea, scorpion shells are staying at 1-1.2k/ea now after I got done leveling it lol. Still, even if they cost ~2k/ea, they beat the uselessness that is blood stones....

Scrp shells on Bahumat go 1-2k, but Blood Stone sell for 1k in San d'oria which is actually nice cuz theres not that much threat of failing sinc im 53 and they're 57. My wind fame sucks hardcore, i'm San D'orian and Blood Stone Sell 25gil to the little shop next to the Bonecraft guild. I cant sell them to the Bonecraft guild =/

It looks like the scorpion shell (scorpion ring) / blood stone mileage varies by server. On Cerberus, Scorpion shells go for 2k a piece, and if you ever get the ring to sell, you can sell them for 2k in jeuno. However you would never get 60 to sell. Blood Stone nets a horrid npc rate, but I have been successsful selling them in San d'Oria for 1k each, at just about break even. Although my mule still has 30 of these things, and i'm gonna have to make some more to 57.... losing 960 gil per synth npcing is better than losing 1700 something (scorpion rings npc for 300 some gil). If the Scorpion shells were down to 1k, the scorpion rings would be a better synth.

My plan is to synth Blood Stone to 57, Scorpion Rings to 58 and then move on to Demon Arrowheads, which will be a 6k per 2 synth profit! This should net me about 100k by the time I reach 63 including failures. From the price history it looks like these arrowheads sell fast too.

Edit: npc for scorpion rings is 461 with max fame.

I did Scorpion Rings all the way to 60. The shells sold for anywhere from 1500 to 1800 each, whereas the rings sold for 1000 on the AH. But, what I did was buy around 15 shells at level 57 and cut them all into rings. Then I bought a stack of Lightning Crystals and desynthed them. I just repeated this until level 60. I'm pretty sure I didn't end up buying more than 25 shells to get me to 60.

Oh, added this to the sticky btw. ^^ Great Guide.

A great area to farm for black tiger fangs is Carpenter's Landing- farming there is getting me through Fang Arrowheads.

Also, rate up ('_^b) This is more or less the plan I have on levelling, particularly arrowheads trhough 53.

Amazing post...questiont hough. At light level bonecraft, do you have enough opportunities to make money to live soley off bonecraft, or will you still have to look for other things for profit?

I'm at 56, and I seem to make a good profit by HQ-ing beetle rings, and I still make arrowheads occasionally, which are good profit. As I move up i see more opportunities to hq gear, and hq arrowheads.

Scorpion arrowheads alone nets about 800 gil profit a synth on my server, which isn't so great, but honestly these sell faster than i can put them up for auction. When i get to level 85(53+32) I should be able to hq them at a consistent rate, and make a lot of profit there.

If your high enough in level, any craft can be profitable.

I like bonecraft, because often the NQ synths seem to sell to vendor for the price of the ingredients.

Its very easy to live off of bonecraft at a higher level. I am slowly getting away from using my bonecraft character (level 87) as I develop my new one (with alchemy, gold and chocobo digging). However with bone its very easy to make 50-100k in the morning with 15-45 minutes of work. If I really want to press it I can do another batch of synths in the evening. There are also the big money items, HQing merman gorget nets you 100k profit (of course you sadly lose a lot on the NQ), as well as the infamous scorpion harness. A HQ scorp harness is about 10 million gil profit right now, and NQ sells at break even. There is definitely profit there.

You must have a very good arrow economy on your server. It's been a while since I've leveled up my bonecraft, but when I was doing it I lost money on all arrowhead synths except Scorpion Arrowheads. I was selling them to the AH in San D'Oria too, it was just a sucky economy for arrowheads.

BTW, that was on Pandemonium. I am on Hades now, but I haven't leveled Boneworking since my move. I remember doing Horn Ring and Carapace Mask (sold both to NPC) when I had the chance and only used arrowheads to bridge the gap.

Why is bonecraft so...how do i say it...well...no1 talks about it? is it a bad craft to make money off of or something? Because im putting serious thought into leveling it into the 80's.Just wondering if it is worth it?

This is driving me crazy now. I have tried about 80 scorpion shells and even someother different Syn. Took me 3 days to farm and leveling. Finally got to lv64 cap last night from lv60.

I thought skill up will be speed up again once i pass lv60, yes it is kind of speed up, but still very slow.

My server price of scorpion shells, bonechips, crab shells are gone crazy, Scorpion sheel is now about 3k , boneechips is about 3-4k a stack, and crab shells are 500-1000. And most of the time, they are sold out in mins.

I still remember the bonechip used to be so cheap like 500 each stack, T.T, too bad i didn't level that time. crab shells is not big deal since i can farm 40-80 shells a night with 2 rounds and npc all the land crab meat even with better price than AH, 20 Stacks of meat can NPC about 60k. But the Scorpion shells are really the pain. The drop rate is like 10% which took me about 3 hours to get only 10 shells in maze.

I was so sad and happy last night when i finally hit lv64 and don't need to do scorpioin again. But when i check the bonepatas, i almost cry.............
Fibers are no where to be found in all cities, and i don't have my alchmey Lv. all the crabs shells are sold out, Giant Femur .. only found 7 within all cities's AHs....

only thing i can think about now is camping AHs for fibers, and farm the crab shells for a while untill i have enough to syn again.

Does anyone know how many shell will i need to take lv64-68 bonepatas?

During my synthesis I will get advanced support (+3 skill) until I am 5 below the skill cap. e.g. for the first since 0-9 bone arrowheads i'll get advanced support until I'm level 4 then i'll synthesis without support. I've noticed a much faster gain in skill ups this way. Also facing directy north has increased my success rates.

0-9 bone arrowheads: wind+(2 bone chips)
9-17 bone ring: wind+(sheep tooth + bone chip)
17-25 beetle ring: wind+(beetle jaw)
25-33 beetle arrowheads: wind+(beele jaw + bone chip)
33-38 Fang arrowheads: wind+(Blk tiger fang + bone chip)
38-43 horn arrowheads: wind+(bone chip + ram horn)
43-53 Scorpion arw hd.: wind+(bone chip + scorpion claw)
53-60 scorpion ring: wind+(scorpion shell)
The next step is arguably the hardest part in bone 0-100
60-68 Bone Patas: fire+(crab shell+ 2 giant femur+ carbon fiber)
The next step you will cost you quite a bit of money and you will fail quite often, but it is much cheaper than using coral fragments
68-79 tigerfangs: fire+(carbon fiber+ 2 blk tiger fangs+ scorpion shell)
Next you will have 3 different options depending what you can find on the auction houses. I have mules in all citys, most have 2-3 mules. I usually buy the ingredients for a week or until my mules are full for all of my synthesis while i'm out doing other things with my ls.
79-81 saintly ring: earth+(ascetic's ring+ fish scales)
79-82 eremite's ring: earth+(hermit's ring+ sheep tooth)
Another option witch I tried to keep from 82-85 will work but requires quite an initial investment, but I broke about even with the synth.
79-85 eris earring: earth+(nemesis earring+ seashell)
Now we start spending money
This is hard one also depending on server due to the vast amounts of HQ crab shells needed. It is hard to find them on my server alot
85-92 carapace gauntlets: earth+(2 leather gloves+ 2 HQ crab shells)
Next has to be one of the easiest ways to get from 92-100 in any craft. Buy a bunch of fish, desynth them into the HQ items needed for the skill up item you are crafting. I'll post the desynth recipes below
92-100 Gavial mask: earth+(Titanictus Shell+ HQ Pugil Scales + Sheep Leather)

For the HQ pugil scales use (lightning crystal + Gavial fish)
This is level 5 cap and you get 12 fish scales for normal craft, 1 HQ pugil scale for HQ+1, 2 HQ pugil scale for HQ+2, and 4 HQ Pugil Scales for HQ+3. This is very easy as you should be level 92 bonecraft when doing this desynth so you should be HQ'n every time as you will most likely be around 92+1 or 92+2 with the guild items being used which will put you around 87-88+ the skill requirement.

For Titanictus Shell use (Lightning crystal + Titanictus)
this is level 40 skill cap. You will get a titanictus shell every synth.

Or use (Lightning crystal + armored pisces)
this is level 41 skill cap. You will get titanictus shell every time)

The 92-100 is very easy if you know a few high level fishers. Just tell them for 92-100 you need lots of fish to desynth for items. Tell them the fish you want to buy from them and you will probably lose even less money buying from them directly.

Also after crafting gavial mask, use lightning crystal + gavial mask to get one of your materials back for another synthesis^^.

This guide netted 0-100 in about a month. And not too much time invested compared to some crafts.

If anyone else has any better data let me know, but I think the average is about 30 synths per level after level 50. I dont think it will slow any. I hear it stays at this rate till you get to level 90, when it jumps to 60 synths per level. This is what i have read in the forums, but i haven't taken a craft this far yet, so i dont know for sure.

0-50 about 15 synths per level
50-90 about 30 synths per level
90-100 about 60 synths per level

So if you want to compute total costs to level, you should probably use these figures. As far as carbon fibers, while they are a popular leveling sytnth for alchemists, they are also highly used in leveling synths for other crafts. In clothcraft you need them for silk headbands for about 10 levels I hear.

I plan to get sufficent alchemy levels before i reach this stage, so i can make my own carbon fibers.

Giant femurs are used in many bonecraft synth, so sometimes people can buy them as quick as they go on the AH, and drive the price up. If you go to T.... caynon, you can excuvate about 20 of them an hour with about 2 stacks of pickaxes. You may get lucky and find a bazzar in windy selling them for cheap.

As far as crab shells, i think they are a rare drop from crabs, so you will have to test your luck at the ah.

It is always nice to know other high level crafters. Fortunately my linkshell has a 100+2guild+3support alchemist so I buy direct. Other items that can be crafted I try to do as well. They tend to HQ alot so I usually get more bang for the buck.

I have no problem with crab shells, its really not a hard drop. I usually went out a night for 3-4 hours and got 40 shells at least. the drop rate of shell i would it's about 25-35% and the land crab meat is about 70-80%, and finally the rock salt is about 99%.

The scorpion shells is the real pain, the drop rate is bad, i would said, it's about 10% or less. i spent same amount of times and not even got 10 drops in Maze or Ozozo.

May what you heard was that the "Bone Patas" is cheapest you can go at that lv.

On my server, ramuh, Fiber (1000) + Gaint F. (900-1000)x2 + crab shell (600-1200) + earth crystal (100) = 3500 to 4000 a syn and you can only npc this for about 1200 in windy. (my fame is not max tho, i think i am only lv5), so for me if i npc them, i am taking like 3k lost each syn, what i did today was just desyn all of them and then started syn bone patas again. maybe i was just lucky, but i got 1 lv up after 15 syn, and got 12 items(Gaint F. x8, crab shell x3, fiber x1) back.

PS. when i did desyn, i was facing south, watersday, halfmoon 53% maybe that's why i have about 80% succcess rate of desyn??? idk

You can also get back high quality pugil scales and titanticus shells by HQing a gavial mask desynthesis. I saw someone doing this in windy last night. I asked him why this was the best approach (2/3 times he got back leather, and I saw him break a few as well), and he said they only sell back to NPCs for about 500 gil (which I find a little hard to believe...)

/zoey on ragnarok /tell for guild service 100 plus all bone itmes and leather gloves
u forgot to mention you should get leather to 60 alchemy to 60 for blm jse.as well need most of the other sub guilds. ALso from 98 to 100 only gavial mask would skill for me also the guild npc only gives that recipe at that time as well. i didnt see a skill from skulls since 96. In my opinion its better to start making gavial masks at 93 94 or so you will skill up faster. many of the ways you have skilling listed you waste alot of gil by only making items 1-2 lvls from its max. use image and do items 3-5 below at least then switch recipes.

I hear this argument a lot, but i have seen no evidence. I seem to get the same skill-up rate on an item if I am 1 level from the cap or 8 levels from the cap. When you are more than 4 levels from the cap it is also impossible to skill-up on failures. And while your successes may net you .2 and the rare .3, sometimes it is a waste to start a synth too early.

Bottom line, when following this guide: skill up on whatever you want. I try to show what i see in my server economy to be the synths with the lowest net cost. If there is a synth that is a profit to npc, your best bet is to keep skilling on it till cap. If you are losing gil, try to move onto something that will lose the least.

With that in mind, since scorpion gauntlets nets 5800 gil each to npc, while gavial mask gets a meesly 500 gil, your probably better off making the scorpion gauntlets till the cap (96).

I wish every day that I leveled bonecraft instead of clothcraft. It is just so much better.

Good luck prospective crafters!

This is why I would recommend my guide instead (sorry for the shameless plug, but the more I think about this guide the more it frustrates me since the last half roughly follows my guide without as many helpful tips from me and in the commentary, not to mention the author is not speaking from experience on any of the latter levels). Anyways, desynth your giant femurs. You can buy shell shields in bastok incredibly cheap (often as low as 50 gil, but never more than 250 gil). Desynth them to get your giant femurs. HQ2 a result and get a turtle shell which you can NPC for 1k. You will probably get 1 turtle shell per stack which means you are making back a lot of your gil. From my experience you can probably get 6 femurs and a turtle shell from a stack of sheilds. If you use a stack and a half of lightning crystals (2.5k for a stack and a half rounding up) and 12 shell shields (even at 200 gil a pop) thats 4.5k. Sell back your turtle shell and you are down to 3.5k which is about 600 gil a femur. Now that doesn't sound great, hoewver often you will get 2 turtle shells and the shields will be at 100 gil or less meaning you will be getting femurs for maybe 200 gil a piece. Its a matter of time investment is all, but if you want to save money it definitely can be done this way.

Don't buy your crab shells in windy, they tend to be more expensive there. Bastok I find is the best place for carbon fiber as well as crab shells (the commute can be a pain if you don't have gobby bags done, but you can use the infinite delivery box trick if you need to).

Finally (and I can't take credit for this, this was recommended in a post on my guide) sell your bone patas in Norg. There is a vendor there who will give you 1.8k a piece. If you average 500 gil a femur, 700 gil a crab shell, 1k a loop of carbon fiber and 100 gil for earth crystal you are now down to 2300 gil a synth and you can sell it for 1.8k at norg (of course since its a vendor the price fluctuates, but thats what its been at the last two times I was there). Which is a 500 gil loss. Accross 12 synths thats a 6k loss. Considering you're in your 60's in a craft getting away with a stack and losing less than 10k is very very nice. Of course there are always failures, but there is nothing you can do about that.

Carbon fiber should be less than 1k a loop in bastok. It shouldn't matter too much which server you are on since bomb ash is purchased from an NPC for around 500 gil with moderate fame. This means that its cost is (assuming no HQ) 4x500x12+fire crystals for a stack. Thats 24k for a stack of components, even if fire crystals are 5k a stack thats still less than 10k a stack. Its not much but if you saved 2k more a stack that cuts your losses down below 5k.

It's true that this is a very nice guide, but yes, please at least acknowledge Kwontos' guide, since he has been by far the most influential and informative bonecrafter on the allakhazam tradeskill forum.

I for one am excited to see more information out there for this not-so-common craft and will try to write up some of my experiences when I get back to town (still vacationing in Japan^^). Thanks for writing this!

Also, Bone Patas usually sell very well on the AH because they are used by goldsmiths to make hydro patas. On Unicorn they sell for 4k and all 7 will usually sell overnight. And the person who said they had all the guild items, can you tell us what Mogenhancement: Bonecraft actually does?
