I'm constantly seeing repeat threads of the same questions take over the rarer, but more useful, threads, even when the answer is right in the sticky, so I'm going to attempt to answer some of the more common ones I've seen. If I forgot a question that you see pretty often, post it, and I'll add it, giving you credit.

1. Can I make money with a high lv in x craft?
A: Yes! No matter what craft you choose, you can always make money with HQ synths. Compare the cost of ingredients for, say, a Heko Obi, then look at how much more you make with a HQ! It requires a fairly high level, but it pays off in the long run.

2. What can I use to get from x level to y level in x craft with profit?
A: Allakhazam has a section with a complete list on synths for every craft. Because the prices of items you synth depends on your server economy, this isn't something we can help you that much with. Just take a look for what caps to 8 levels (that's where I stop looking for a leveling synth, and it usually results in too many breaks afterwards) above your current crafting level, compare the price of the ingredients with your finished product, and see what makes profit.

3. What can I use to get from x level to y level in x craft?
A: Popsi made a great thread with links to guides/information about every craft. If the guides don't have the levels you are looking for, go to the complete list of synths on Alla, and see what caps around 8 levels (where I stop) above your current level in synth, and try using those synths.

4. How far will x amount of gil get me in x craft?
A: Popsi has yet another sticky that gives approx. amount of gil to get to level 60 in each craft. Again, we don't really know how far it will get you, as that depends on your server economy, so start crafting!

5. What can I make at x level in x craft for profit?
A: Again, server economys make it hard for us to tell you. Use Alla's synth list and see what you can do.

6. What craft should I level for the most porfit?
A: Again, that depends on server economy. You're better off choosing a craft that will complement the job you wish to take to lv75, and going hog wild on that craft. Goldsmithing, which takes a *lot* to level up on, can make you a Rockefeller at high levels, but a craft like Cooking, which is extremely cheap to level, can be very handy out in the field when you're battling.

7. What craft is best to level with my current job?
A: That all depends.
  • Alchemy: Useful for any job. A lot of the stuff like High Potions, Ethers, Prism Powder, Sneak Oils, etc. can be used out in the fields, and the weapons that you enhance have such a great variety, you can level Alchemy to make weapons for almost any job. Also, rangers can make bullets if they work their goldsmithing a bit.
[li]Bonecraft: Useful for any job that uses harnesses. Looking at the Bonecrafting synth list, that's what a lot of the synths are mainly harness armor.
[li]Cooking: Useful for any job. You can get it up to 40, bring the ingredients for mithkabobs out in the fields with you, and voila, you have 12 stacks of mithkabobs with you at a fraction of the room.
[li]Clothcraft: Mages will find this craft the most useful. 90% of your armor will consist of Clothcrafting recipies. Also, some Ninja tools can be made from this craft, so Ninja's may want to level Clothcrafting a bit.
[li]Fishing: Useful for any job. Also very useful for cooks. Fishing does NOT affect the 40 points after level 60.
[li]Goldsmithing: Useful for any job really, but mainlt tanks. You can make a lot of the rings, the gems to make the rings, the lizard armor set, Guns, weapons, earrings, etc.
[li]Leathercraft: Useful for melee. You can make a lot of armor with this craft (and I mean a LOT.)
[li]Smithing: Useful for melee. A lot of what you make in synthing is arrowheads, or weapons.
[li]Woodworking: Very useful for rangers. All of your ways of making arrows, bolts, bows, and crossbows will be made with this craft.

  • 8. What can I use to level my fishing after x level?
A: Mystery Tour has a great section for fishing that includes what fish cap at what level, what type of water you can catch them in, and what lures/bait are good to catch them with.

    9. Why dosen't SE do anything when I tell them about a fishing bot?!
A: Because what you believe is a fishing bot isn't always a fishing bot. Although there ARE cases where people really are botting, there's just as many, if not more, cases where people are falsely accused of botting.

    10. How can I garden and what can I grow with gardening?
A: Pikko has a very nice site with a LOT of recipes for gardening, when the best to plant/harvest/feed the plants is, what type of pot the items grow best in, and what type of plant can give you what items.

    11. What is the synth to cause HQs/what increases chanced of HQs?
A: The synth to cause HQs is the exact same as the normal synth, but you need to be many levels higher then the cap (I believe that 30 levels higher is the main recommended amount, any higher levels only increase your chances.

We're not really 100% sure what increases chances of HQs. We believe that things like a full moon (or is it new moon? I can't quite remember) and darksday increase your chances by a small amount.

Just edited the post to include a question with a link to Pikko's site. One of the best sites for gardening that I've ever seen.

You should add something about HQ.

"11. What's the formula for high qualities?
A: No one really knows. There's a lot of randomness. Only thing known fact is the higher skill level you are, the higher your chance of a HQ"

    Or something like that >.>

And seriously, what *** would mark this down? :P

I'm curious why there aren't separate threads in the Trade Skill Forum for each craft? Threads fly down the list so fast that it's hard to glance over and find threads relevant to what you're searching for.

Too many stickies. The more you have, the less chance people read them.

You might want to try cooking. If you farm the wind clusters for Sliced Sardines, you can double that, and then use that gil to make more.

Yes, I believe that you can synth anything within 1 levels of your rank, but I honestly have no clue.

I found a chart that looked something like this:

    ----------Day---------Day---------Day
    Crystal|Skill---------Skill---------Skill
    Crystal|Sucess-----Sucess-----Success
    Crystal|Poss HQ---Poss HQ---Poss HQ

It was color coded showing which result had the 1st, 2nd, 3rd best chance for each day of the week.

I'll try to dig out the URL and post it. If someone knows it offhand, please post. This might be a good link to add to #11.

also... using crystals on the same day can aslo help (ex. using a wind crystal to makesomething on windsday)

i hope that helps a little, it helps to make stuff past ur lvl and HQ items.

I believe the explanation in popski's gardening guide will explain that completely for you. Hope that one will help, if not sorry just figured it might.

Oh, and to add to this whole thread, I aggree with this post completely. I am very new to crafting, and I didnt know a thing about any of them. I've been searching all of the forum, guides, and whatever else, and have found answers to everything, and more. I have been crafting for about 2 weeks and have not had to ask any questions yet(minus a few a friend has answered). I just started playing the game like 3 weeks ago because my co-workers play this game. I have actually helped my friend with some crafting questions. He's a lv 71 summoner with a few others, and like 59 cooking starting leather for some high lv robe. I really love the information in the sticky's and have yet to need to search farthur.

I really liked popski's gardening, and a fishing one a found yest that was for lv0-lv40 and 500k plus gil.

Each guild has an individual NPC who you can buy items from after turning in certain foods for guild points. Signing crystals is one of these items.

ok i came here with one question and am leaving with 2 :( i'm sorry. I'm slowly working my way up alchemy 43 at current and I'm looking to make ammutions (bullets, bolt heads ect.), and I know most profit comes with HQ'ing. I read here that there'a alot of varibles you think affects HQ'ing moon, day, and having 30'ish higher skill lvl. My question is with cross skill synths do both skills have to 30'ish higher to get an HQ or only the main?

The other question i now have is it seems that you're saying that you only can have 40 points total of craft skill over 60, ie alchemy 80 goldsmithing 80 and anything else 60 or under? Am I reading that right, cause that is some very important information to know before moving on. thank you.

First of all sorry, i think this may be a stupid question, but i dont find an answer around.

Im Alchemyst 90.3, been doing GP to get aketon. But after i get my aketon, i will like to get goldsmith glasses, but..

If i break my contract with Alchemyst (cos its over 60) will it 'delevel' to 60??'

I'll like to get my aketon, move to goldsmith contract and get the glasses and after doing that, i will like to back to alchemy with my current lv. Its that posible or ill lost my lv??

    Thanks in advance

Well, to my knowledge you won't lose you lvls, but you will lose any outstanding conquest points. The same goes for when you leave GS. Atleast that is what happened when I switched from Cooking to Leathercraft. I'm a 74 cook and a 57 leathercrafter. ^^ Hope that helps.

I do believe if a synth has a sub craft that that craft needs to be significantly higher also to HQ frequently. I say this based on my experiences making silver bullets. My Alchemy is 100+3 and my Goldsmithing is now 56 but I didn't start HQing silver bullets on a regular basis til GS hit 54. 54 just happens to be 30 levels above what Alla says the subcraft caps at.

To answer the question about changing guild contracts... you will lose all guild points that you have accumulated with the guild you are leaving but you will not lose any levels in it. So yes, you can get your Alchemy Apron then change to GS and get your glasses with out losing any Alchemy levels. If by chance you have some GPs left over before you switch get yourself some signing crystals instead of just wasting hard earned GPs

I'm going to be playing the game in about a month. so i know NOTHING except what i am learning / reading on various sites. I'm trying to learn everything I can so when I start the game, I won't be such a newb :D

    Anyway.

Leveling crafting = 60 max in all crafts (11 crafts, correct?) with a total of 40 above 60 spread among all 11 crafts.

IE 80 in 2 crafts and 60 in all ohters, 70 in 4 crafts and 60 in all others, etc.

you can also lvl craft to 100 then "change" guilds (?) and that craft drops back to 60 and you can level another up to 100.

If i change back to the original craft, will it go back to 100?

If so, then one could get ALL crafts to 100 and just swap guilds to get that craft back to 100 yes?

And what about situations where I would need two crafts at 80, but I leveled all crafts to 100? Is it lost now? Or do u NEVER need two crafts at 80? Or can make the "first" part in craft A then change to guild B to finish make the item in craft B?

Just trying to figure out how it all works. :D

    Alchemy
    Bonecraft
    Blacksmithing
    Cooking
    Clothcraft
    Fishing
    Goldsmithing
    Leathercraft
    Woodworking

I only count nine. Ofcorse, you can count things like Gardening, Chocobo Digging, and H.E.L.M as "crafts".

Yes, it is possible to level more then one craft to 100. However, with only 40 crafting points to spend after 60, it means you'll never be able to have multible crafts at 100 at once. If you switch guild you get to optiuon to revoke craftsman status, which will reset your level to 60 automatically, so you'd LOSE all those crafting levels and to get them back you'd have to level the craft again. ;_; There is no way to have all crafts to 100.

The good news is that it is possible to level Fishing and any other craft to 100. Fishing isn't restricted like other crafts because it doesn't involve crystal synthesis in anyway.

We're not really 100% sure what increases chances of HQs. We believe that things like a full moon (or is it new moon? I can't quite remember) and darksday increase your chances by a small amount.

uhh.. so is it new moon or full moon? have you found out yet? XD

    Hi

I was wondering why can't you level all crafts over 60, and why can you only level one craft to 100? Thanks ^^

After level 60 on any craft you have 40 points to play with, not including the items that give +skills

so, thats 1 craft to 100, or two crafts to 80.

OK, some people are saying that when you change crafts you dont actually lose the 40 levels gained in it, and others are saying that you will have to RELEVEL the craft if you break your contract with the guild, as it WILL be dropped back to 60 ^o^

Can anyone confirm which it actually is?

I've seen some peoples sigs with XXX craft 100+3, YYY craft 100, ZZZ craft 97

If they cant have all this at the same time....?

I skimmed through this thread real quick and didn't see anything that answered my question, but apologies in advance if I just missed it.

Is there a thread that lists the best days for HQ crafts with each crystal? If not can someone please give a listing or if it even has to do with the crystal type. I'm trying to get this information because I've been putting all my money into woodworking lately and just broke 60 with it. I'd like to start making shihei and getting HQs at the best rate possible. Thanks! ^^

Hmm... I was reading through this FAQ and noticed that there is nothing on how, exactly, synthing items that require multiple crafts works. For example, would one be required to have traveled to San d'Oria and joined the Tanner's Guild before being able to synth Bone Mittens? (Bone Mittens being a Bonecraft(20) item that also has Leathercraft(5) listed.) Would one need the Leathercraft before being able to successfully craft the item, or simply before being able to HQ the item?

It is my understanding that you can lvl any craft to 10 without joining the guild. So, you would not need to go to Sandy and join the leather guild in order to craft said item. However if you wanted to craft something that had a leather subcraft that capped at 15, you would need to make the trip.

For best results, lvl your leathercrafting to 5-10, at or away from the guild.

HQ rate is a different matter. As stated before, the subcraft should be 30+ lvls above the cap for best HQ results. I believe it is the New Moon that increases HQ rate, (though it also increases synth failure, so be careful). Also, synthing on the day that the crystal is *weak* to is supposed to increase HQ rate. So, for instance, a synth that uses a fire crystal would get a higher HQ rate on Watersday. However, like the new moon, this also makes synth failure more likely. Finally, Darksday increases HQ rate for all crystals. Once again, it also increases failure rate for all crystals.

    Happy crafting!

How can I find out how many more tenths of a point I need to level a craft? I see people with XX.X and i'm wondering exactly how accurate they are, if they're figuring them from what the game says while crafting.
