I'm just concerned about soloing here. I know u could use whatever in a party. But how long til you really should upgrade from warped arrows? I'm not worried about being the "Best". I'm talking about effectively being able to solo, that is all.

I haven't used Warped Arrows in a long time. I am currently level 44 Archer and use Iron Arrows for leve and sp grinding, Silver Arrows on "Special Leve", and am saving some Coral Arrows for Higher Level NMs that will occur in the future. With using higher level arrows, my accuracy is very good and damage is good also. I haven't compared my damage and accuracy to someone else using warped arrows cause i hate the spam in the chat box when not using filters and I have no interest in doing a bunch of testing. I do see people that use Warped Arrows and they are level 45 and 48 ARC. We used to call that "GHETTO LEVELING" a job in FFXI. If you want to just get by, then maybe Warped Arrows will get you all the way to r50, I've heard of some people who did just that. When it comes to "Farming or Soloing" my general rule of thumb is 1) I can hit the mob (no accuracy problems) 2) Can kill it fast enough without dying or a lot of downtime for healing HP. 3) If I can afford it. Using high level arrows for farming or soloing is a waste if you dont need them. When you get to higher level mobs and NMs you will probably need all the accuracy you can get. I want to have a reputation as a great Archer and that is why I use the higher grade arrows, make sure my gear is always repaired, and have the best gear available. It's not just about E-Peen, its about being a valuable asset to your linkshell and having pride in your class. I am also leveling Carp and have no money problems at this time.

Warped Arrow 12 ATT and 88 ACC.
Flint Arrow 15 ATT 101 ACC
Iron Arrow 26 ATT 132 ACC.
Silver Arrow 34 AT 146 ACC.
Red Corral Arrows 44 ATT 161 ACC.

Warped arrows can last you through to rank 50, really. Just like wooden arrows were able to last you to 75 in XI. Of course, you aren't reaching your damage potential, but it's not like your damage will be horrible compared to using a rank 1 bow all the way to max rank/level.

Another thing is, in this game people don't really care about how much damage you do, unlike in XI. In XI, the battle speed was slower, and therefore your chatlog scrolled slower. Your damage was obvious to everyone. You could easily see how much damage everyone in your party was doing, and everyone could see how much damage you were doing, making you self-concious about being gimped or not. Not only that, but it was fairly common for certain rangers in XI to be known as "that gimp rng" because of this. It affected your chances of getting a party to a certain degree. In XIV, the battle speed is much faster, and you often are in large parties (behests), making your chatlog scroll extremely fast. It's way more difficult for you to see how much damage everyone is doing, and for them to see how much damage you're doing. Chances are nobody realizes whether you're doing good damage or not.

So, it is "easier" in this game to "get by" using gimped arrows because you will hardly ever be criticized by others. But the fact remains that you are still gimping yourself.

Admittedly, I myself am not using the best arrows I should be using. I'm rank 41 but still using obsidians. A big part of this is because my friend and I make our own arrows, and we're not high enough rank on our DoH to make arrows appropriate for our Arc rank.

I think I might be sticking to Iron arrows unless I can find Silver arrows at a decent price. The next arrows after Silver on my server go for around 300k a stack! That's crazy! Iron, I can get for 60k.

That's pretty messed. Thankfully we have a crafter or several on Selbina that keeps Silver arrows @ 35k but Iron are 60k per stack.

I have been buying Iron Arrows between 49-50k for a stack of 999. Silver Arrows I have been able to get for 70k for a stack of 999. Thats on Soronia Server in Uldah. In other places like Gridania the prices are higher. Still working on getting my Carp level up to where i can make my own.

i have to agree with everyone above you can use warped arrows all the way to rank 50 if you want, i've tested 3 differente arrows just to check how much damage you had per arrow, i've tested warped, iron and silver arrow right now as an archer r39 i was killing some efts, so the difference in attack per shot wasnt that much it was like 10 points between iron and warped and 25points of damage between the silver arrow and warped arrow, in ws it doesnt add much more like 50 more damage, this are average numbers that i got between a couple of fights, about the acc you have more acc with higher rank arrows.

But i can tell you this if you want to solo mobs, leves, behest or quest just for you use warped arrows, for NM's and party grinding you could use iron or silver arrows, but just if you want to be taken seriously as ranger you wont do that much more damage as you think, but at least you'll be doing more damage and wont be missing that much, so is up to you.

I left the warped arrows in the dust. worked with carpenter. swap to fang arrows, cheap to make. Then swap to obsidian arrows. This are really easy and cheap too. I am rank 48 close to 49 atm and using obsidian arrows for all standar and swap to Iron/silver/coral depend on what are we fighting.

My advice, level up carpenter and dont stay to long with warped arrows. Youy looks damn cheap on those thing and doesnt offer the potencial your class can get.

I see lots of people saying to use warped when soloing but use the better arrows when with others. I am just the opposite. when I am soloing, I need my highest damage that I'm capable of since I have no help. I am the one getting beat on when solo so I rather kill as fast as I can. In most parties I am in, it doesn't make a difference which arrows I am using since everything dies so fast anyways.

I still carry around 2 stacks of warped for things I don't care about (mostly easy leves).

Don't be a scrub. Level the appropriate crafts to make your own ammo. At the VERY least you should be shooting Iron or Silver Arrows, ideally one of the coral arrows.

I don't know if you're referring to me, but I can (and do) make my own arrows just fine; I use warped arrows when I'm doing things that really don't matter (which, at this point of the game, is really quite a large chunk of the "content"). I do so because the time I'd invest crafting (read: gathering mats) is more than the time I'd save by using my good arrows.

I am noticing that the Blue Coral and Red Coral arrows do SIGNIFICANTLY less damage than the Silver Arrows. I am a R45 Archer. I think it has something to do with Silver Arrows doing 100% projectile damage and coral arrows doing 70% projectile and 30% water damage. Anyone have some insight on this?

Were you testing your damage against mobs based on lightning or water? Those are resistant to water damage, so up to 30% of your damage could be gone.

arrows are weird IMO. Yesterday I was swapping between Iron arrows and Warped arrows and the damage difference was almost not noticeable. I did seem to notice a slight accuracy difference though. But in the end, it just doesn't seem worth it to pay 60k+ for arrows when you can buy warped arrows with pocket change and almost get the same effect.

Also, arrows are haaaaaaard to come by on Fabul. Uldah and LL 90% of the time has 0 arrows for sell. Grid has them on a more normal basis, but they are very expensive. Blue/red coral arrows sell for 300k+ a stack. Can never find Silver arrows, so I try to stick to Iron arrows. But the lowest I have found those has been around 58k. They seem to range from 60k-130k.

I was using them again leve mobs in broken water, so it was against a variety of types. Mongrels, gnats, dodos, mitelings, etc. The damage done per light shot (the shot i was using to test) was significantly less, with silver arrows hitting for about 88-94 per shot and coral arrows hitting for 55-60 per shot.

Someone said there should be an additional line in the battle log, for example:

Your Light Shot hits the *** for *** damage.
Your Light Shot hits the *** for *** water damage.

But I never saw the second line. Yes I did check my chat filters.

Red Coral Arrows are very situational, only use i found for them are against mobs weak to water, like the goblin nm, i used silver arrows normal attacks averaged around 30 dmg, i switched to red coral and the dmg went up to 40 dmg average, where as on the great buffalo silver were doing 30 dmg, i switched to red coral it dropped to around to low 20 dmg, but that is my personal experience.
