I have completely remade the Marauder guide and made it into a Wiki article on Zam. The link is HERE.

If anyone has any questions, suggestions or anything else to say, then feel free to do so.

Some good basic info here, appreciate having it in one spot. A few things to add-

Trunksplitter seems to have better accuracy against seedkin, as well as doing more damage. Useful against roselings, funguars, and the like in early ranks.

Brutal Swing is an AoE under steadfast (one of the few differences between it and Tunksplitter). On those leves where there are a bunch of weaker mobs, Broad Swing, Brandish, Skull Splitter (under Steadfast), and Brutal Swing (same) are your friends. When you hit multiple mobs, your TP gauge shoots up faster, and you can use TP abilities more often. Provided you survive, you can do serious damage.

Also, if you craft, Blacksmith and Armorer are a natural fit, given that Strength affects the success of smiths when using the primary tool and armorers when using the secondary, and Vitality affects the success of synthesis using the armorer's primary tool.

I have been grinding crabs in cass. hallows the last few days, and when it works, Disorient was a huge boost to sp. Sadly, I can't tell if it's bugging out, and what's causing it to do so, or if it's just missing. Anyhow, don't forget to mention it's an enmity boost too.

By bugging out, do you mean stamina is used and the ability goes on cooldown but the attack and debuff don't happen. If this is the case, then as warbs says, the attack has been resisted / missed. If you have Feint, you can use it straight away. Not sure if you mean something different though.

Yes that's exactly what I'm talking about, and I've always assumed a miss, but it never indicates such in the chat/combat log.

Gravity is a pretty good thau skill. Easy to land even with no piety and stacks with disorient. Same with slow to a smaller degree.
I always make sure to start with disorient -> gravity -> hit -> disorent x 2 when fighting high evasion mobs.

I heard absorb ACC is broken atm, but I haven't tried it for myself. Ideally it sounds cool though.

The problem is that mobs go down pretty quickly, so debuffing becomes pretty ineffective in party play. They are great for solo though, when you're chill on speed.

Thanks for the positive comments and suggestions. Changed minor info on the skills sections. Added incapacitation section and testing section. More to be added very soon, got a list of things to do lol.

Great guide...Some suggestions:

Warmonger - Lasts twice as long as Provoke/Taunt. Doesn't require targeting. (Seems to take precedent over Provoke/Taunt, but still testing this).

Brutal Swing - Deals more damage than Trunksplitter and Trunksplitter II on IT mobs at high levels. (Except vs. Roselings)

Skull Sunder - Best SP/hour skill as it can proc twice (once for dmg, once for DoT) for only 500TP

Trammel (Lancer) - Same as Skull Sunder for SP/hour

Foresight - Worth having if you tank! Lasts 15 seconds (theyre soon changing it to 30sec), and more often than not will give me a parry which often gives 350SP. (Also changing soon: the rate at which it works).

Featherfoot (Pugilist) - Same deal as Foresight, but more useful as it gives you a full evade usually. I haven't noticed any SP from evade though.

Maim - YOU'LL SEE!!! BEST SKILL EVAR!!! (USEFUL IN SMALLER PARTIES AGAINST HARD MOBS). MAIM RULES.

Food - Make yourself a stack of grilled carp for every exp session.

Stats - I suggest equal STR/VIT/DEX. You'll probably be tanking or backup tanking a lot.

Equips - Accuracy rings are hugely important.

Axe - Inferno Axe sucks, bad.

You missed prime conditioning, fast cast and firm conviction. Pretty useful tanking and soloing skills.

I am planning to edit those in in my next set of updates.

Worth noting tho, they are not skills. They are traits.

I agree with onion head I think Foresight is very useful if you are tanking or soloing. Of course if you are going DD then obviously you can replace it on your bar with a more useful skill

Warby,

I have a few questions about MRD before I continue to lv this job or a different to 50. Before I ask, this is why I am asking. On FFXI I was a PLD, SAM, NIN, RNG, BLM. I was stuck at every end game event as PLD & SAM only a few times when PLD was not needed. I do not wish to tank every NM/event.

1. Is tanking split between GLA & MRD? IS GLA main or is MRD? I hear conflicting answers.

2. Armor: I haven't tried this myself, I don't believe you can gear swap like you can in FFXI. What is best DD gear setup & best Tanking setup?

3. Are you able to release & recapture hate like in FFXI? I know we dont have /THF to plant hate. Dual PLDs could bounce hate or you could let the SAMs & WARs have hate til they died.

4. This is a sensitive question if you're a mage. How are the healers? Hopefully they have improved from FFXI......

Thanks

1. I assume your asking for endgame (By endgame i mean NMS)? If so, then yes its all Gladiator atm.

As for things like leves and random partys then Mrd is a great, if not the best tank. Due to not having to waste stamina on hate gaining abilities as much, they can mostly just do thier DD to keep hate. This also goes for Pug.

2. DD wise your going to want things like this (If you do NMS then you can grab Silver Tricorne).~ Iron Celata Vintage Haubergeon Iron Gauntlets Tarred Leather Trousers Cavalry Sollerets Iron Plate Belt.

For your tanking set, its pretty much what Gladiators use, same as DD set but with these changes~ Iron Cuirass Iron Sabatons.

3. Hate is almost impossible to lose if done correctly. You have Voke/Taunt/Warmonger as your spike hate actions. You can also grab Accomplice from Pug to transfer hate from another member to yourself. A way to release hate would be Chameleon from Archer, although ive never needed the action on my Mrd yet.

4. Im actually a mage myself, i dual box a DD and a mage and its super easy to be a good healer even by playing 2 characters. Cure III and Sacrifice III are very OP and unless your getting one shotted, then you should be fine leaking lots of damage.

Thank you for the reply, yes I was talking about End Game (When Yoshi decides to finish & release it)& NMs. I don't mind tanking parties but not interested in doing that for End Game & NMs.

Just found this, as I've been trying to figure out what Traits to go for. The whole thing looks good, though, and I will try what is suggested versus what I've been doing (mostly spamming Trunksplitter II).
