Dodoskin Cesti Durability problem..Follow

My Dodoskin Cesti go from full durability to 1/161040 very fast. I bought them at lvl 14 after i just got 14, after getting 1k exp over 15 they are at 1 durability. My marauder is at 14 and has a bronze labrys, the durability on that seems to last a huge amount of time compared to Dodoskin Cesti, maybe 3-4 times as long.

Am i doing something wrong or is something making me lose durability faster than usual? Anyone else having this problem?

The problem is you should be using the bronze knuckles which is appropriate for your level.

The wear will slow down when you are 18ish but pugilist weapons wear faster then other weapons due to the rate of attack it seems. Also this applies to gear as well. The further away you are from the level the more diminishing the returns. Finally, you should wear gear designed for pugilist, the stat decrease when not is very noticeable just try equipping different gear and look at your stats.

Ok thanks for the information, i do only wear equipment that is designed for PGL but i wasnt aware that items would lose durability faster the further away from the optimal level. Ill get myself some Bronze knuckles then.

Well, my pugilist is 22 now and the cesti still wear down extremely fast. I rather think it is because I got mine from the npc shop in Uldah. Similar to my bronze labrys for my MRD those npc weapons wear down much much faster.

The bone hora I crafted for myself lose durability just as fast as my store bought Cesti (I'm over rank 19). So I don't know if it matters whether you bought or crafted your weapons.

I think in the future people are going to want +1/2/3 weapons just for the fact the durability might go down at a slower rate.

hmm interesting didn't know that, so lets say a weapon is optimal rank 19 and you are rank 12 if you use them the durability will go down faster if say you were rank 20?

Pug weapons seem to wear down pretty fast. due to the fact we hit faster?.. I used Bronze knuckles from lvl 16-17 and by the time i finished grinding.. my weapons were at 30k/175k and the same from 17-18 but as the exp bar gets bigger...your weapons are gonna need a repair half way thro. it seems...so hope you became a leather/gold/Blacksmith to repair these weapons

the increased durability is just a nice plus on hq weapons tbh. contrary to ff11 where hq weapons were just ok but not that noticable, in ff14 it's just day and night.
on bronze dagger (lvl 7 GLA weapon, really low right) going from a +2 to a +3 dagger added 2 damage and 5acc when switching. to me thats a lot. I didnt do more test from nq/+1/+2/+3 but assuming it is +2/+5 each lvl, thats a huge bonus for such a low lvl weapon. If the bonus scale with better weapons (ie if a iron dagger for exampl gets say +4/+7, thats a big difference)
On the armor side though, hq is nice but not that ground breaking.
I will try to do more test tonight, if the +2 +0 and +1 I have for sale are not gone tonight...

My bet is on "Number of attacks: 2", any other weapon type I've seen in game has 1. It would only be logical for an item such as this to wear twice as fast. Stupid/imbalanced by design, yes but not illogical.

As for the rate of equip-damage/xp-gain, it depends greatly on what you're fighting (ie. how many hits it takes to kill a certain mob vs how much xp you get from that mob).

^ +1 this. Also you have to factor in the extra strikes from Haymaker. On my GLD my dagger wears pretty quick as well, I imagine from spamming Phalanx + regular attacks.

Yeah the drop rate for the durability is reallly high.. about 10,000 points(6%)drop from 60 hits(including ws)~, which was pretty much 3 green level Antelope. im level 23 and i should not have any optimal Rank/Weapon level ratio issues. However this test was done with small sample.. so i cant confirm it.. i just want to find a Brass Knuckle now...

Thats just the way it is. It has nothing to do with optimal rank or NPC bought. All weapons wear out in a hurry. This is an unfun mechanic and needs to be changed. Im fine with repairing, and kind of like the interaction it requires, but weapons just wear out too fast. And pug weapons wear out faster than most.

yes weapons do generally wear down quickly, but to say optimal rank has nothing to do with it is untrue. they do infact wear faster when below the optimal rank, particularly if you're using a rank 19 weapon at 12 or 13 as the poster said he was.

I do think that they have this system wearing down so fast as a way of managing the gil in the economy as well as for whatever other reasons. It is very annoying how fast ALL gear, not just weapons, tends to get worn out. Now gil is easier to come by in XIV and repairs are pretty easy to come by as long as you're in an ls with folks who are focusing mainly on crafting, perhaps this isnt as prevalent as i think, but it is still a nuissance that i hope they adjust as the game moves forward and more gear and recipes are added.

I'm not sure if this is a PUG only thing, but I do notice that our weapons lose durability extremely quickly. The only "solution" as of now is to buy 2+ sets of weapons so you can switch on the fly.

Another point I'd like to add to the discussion: is damage drop THAT noticeable? I'm currently at rank 13 using Bronze Knuckles and, even if they wear down quite fast, I didn't notice much difference. Anyone can confirm?

Yup, the damage drop is very noticible, i would say abt 30-50% drop.

I haven't really noticed a significant damage drop as my weapons wear, but I have noticed that my accuracy drops, especially when durability is in the 50-60% range.

I feel like most my gear (not just my weapons) wears out rather quickly. Doesn't matter if its battle type gear or crafting gear. I truly believe my starter weathered equipment lasted longer than anything Ive crafted or purchased since.

I bet we see SE tweak the deterioration rate sometime in the future. At least I hope they do.

At R20-R22, I repaired 3 times when it went under 50%. Where other weapons like bow I would probably only needed to repair once.

Anyhow, I'm soon going to be using Brass Knuckles and have been looking ahead of higher level knuckles. The R26 Tortoiseshell Hora seems like it will be hard to find repairer with repair item, are most people skipping this weapon and going for the Toadskin Cesti or skipping that right too and going straight to Spiked Knuckles?

I went in this order:

weathered > dodo cesti > brass knuckles > spiked knuckles > iron baghs > peiste cesti

There are more high level crafters so you have more choices in weapons, but I would stay away from ones with exotic repair materials.

not that it's a full solution, but I find using a throwing weapon every 3rd-ish attack slows down the wear and often does pretty decent damage, unfortunately it's getting harder to find chakram appropriate to my rank as the store bought ones from Ul'Dah are begining to only be worthwhile on blue or soft green mobs.
