Throwing da JavelinsFollow

#1 Oct 05 2010 at 7:53 PM Rating: Decent
So I have discovered the coolest thing about lancer and im 100% happy I choose this class now. We can equip javelins into our ammo slot and throw them. Right now im R15 Phys 22 and my Javelins hit for 85 DMG they level Polearm skill and build TP. I also have a Archer rank 14 but have not tried to use Archer WS with javelins. But I have to say being able to throw Javelins as a Lancer is freaking amazing. Kudos to SE for implementing this amazing thing and making the Lancer class that much cooler.

Like when you equip a shield and gaurd shows up in the first availbe slot the same happens when you equip a javelin in your thrown slot. A Grey icon will appear in your next availble slot on your action bars.

I don't believe Archer WSes will work with Javelins. In fact, I don't believe any WS will work with any class's throwing weapon.

I hate to burst your bubble, but every DoW class is supposed to get some kind of throwing weapon. According to the official FFXIV site, Pugilists get chakrams, Marauders get throwing axes, and Gladiators get throwing knives. As an Archer in closed beta, I had to throw rocks when I ran out of arrows, although those never showed up in my inventory; the throwing weapons for other classes go in the same pouch fishing bait goes in.

This may be a stupid question (it feels like one to me), but do you keep the javelin after you throw it, or is it gone? The only Javelins I've seen so far have been going for 20k+, and I don't want to spend that on something I'm just throwing away (ha, ha. x_x).

Once you toss it, it's gone.

What level are the javelins that you see for 20k? Are you sure that's not for a full stack?

I really don't know if this is the case for Javelins(Yet to try using one), but Francisca's and Chakram's have a chance to return to you after throwing. Not sure what determines that, and again, whether it applies to javelins or what, but I can't see why it would be so different.

Honestly makes no sense for it to return to you(Tie a string to end D:) but it doesn't make sense for axes or knives either.

indeed, javelins have a (small) chance of being recovered after being thrown.

They should make it so you have a percent chance to find a percentage of your javelins thrown on the corpse after it dies. That would make the most sense and has been implemented by other games. Chakrams returning in-flight is reasonable though I guess. Ninjas are crafty!

That only worked in Xena. Chakrams are (in reality) no more a returning weapon than a tomahawk. Really, most boomerangs aren't designed to return, either, and the ones that are make poor weapons.

They should add Throwing based Weaponskills, i always wanted those in FFXI, and the Throwing range should be longer..
