hi, i played the open beta for only 3 days and from what i figured out myself im happy with (as in what class to do first to compliment leveling lancer) however, there are a few things concerning me for when the retail comes out so any tips for me and others who are also got things on there mind would be greatly apreciated from those who played the few weeks of open beta and those who played the closed too...

the things on my mind right now are Stat distribution.. i read alot that you should pump up dex due to low accuracy, granted i only got physical level 11 and lancer rank 8 (loved moonrise) i didnt seem to miss half as much as other people, i think i had a good balance of str dex and a bit of vit thrown in.. a good idea i have recently read is 3str 1vit 4dex seems to be a good way for lancer to go but whats others thoughts...

secondly.. how to actually PLAY Lancer... i mean the bind from heavy thrust seems kinda pointless due to the fact that 1)monsters can still seem to hit me from range and 2)it breaks as soon as i use anything OTHER than heavy thrust (heavy thrust seems to break it to reapply it wich is fine).. maybe im doing something wrong..
also which craft would compliment a lancer yet still be beneficial for any friends and linkshells i meet on my travels. (im thinking armourer?)

1 more question, tho not related to lancer.. i noticed alot of armour and weapons say "optimal rank" yet, i could still wear say rank 27 armour... i dont quit understand this as i was rank 9 using higher rank equipment (only armour tho due to the fact i could find any other lance)

sorry if that was alot of pointless reading but like i say, any tips, hints, suggestions on how to start this game well would be apreicated from those who seem to be more in the know than me

thankyou in advance

heavy thrust isn't really optimal for soloing, unless you're trying to escape something to heal or run away.

gear that is too far away from its optimal level will have its bonuses reduced, and if I'm not mistaken, they will break faster.

as far as statss, when you are soloing, you dont need as much dex, since you are hitting lower level targets, I usually used a ratio of 3/2/2 for str/vit/dex. When you are grouped and fighting higher level mobs, you're going to want alot more dex at the expense of Vit.

Hey Raidon,

played a Lancer up to rank 15, physical level 20. My main focus was on dex and vit, because I did a lot of soloing, or grouping with a conjurer, so I pretty much had to tank all the time. I started another thread regarding some faults I was running into because it seemed like a change in dex didn't effect my accuracy as much. You did mention that you seemed not to miss as much, which is fantastic for you, but a high dex is still worth it. The vitality I felt was important simply because I had to take the hits. Str never seemed to be as worth at at higher ranks (At 40, each stat starts taking 2 points to increase, and each point in strength seemed to only increase damage by 1 or something). So I was a DEX/VIT Lancer and, aside from missing all the time, I thought it worked out pretty well.

I had the same exact problem with the bind from Heavy Thrust. It seems best used in groups, as the Lancer seems to be primarily a group-oriented class, or moving away from the opponent to heal yourself or use something like ferocity/speed surge, etc. without taking hits during it. Later on, look into getting guild marks to buy other Lancer attacks like Full Thrust and Pierce. Again, even though they sound pretty effective, it's really all a situational thing. Lancers seem to be most useful in a group fighting multiple enemies at once.

As far as crafting goes, I think I regretted not making my Lancer a carpenter. She was/is a goldsmith and leatherworker, but I think I'd take carpenter over goldsmith. The reason is that the starting lance, as well as at least the Harpoon, was both repaired and created via carpenter. So, if you were one, you'd be able to repair your weapon and possibly make yourself better ones later on. Self-sufficiency rocks! Leatherworking, I imagine, would be nice for armor, as I assume the Lancer wears light(er) armor than other melee classes. I could be wrong about that, in which case Armourer might be nice.

Lastly, this took me a while to figure out, but Lancers apparently do the most damage and have the highest accuracy when attacking an enemy from the side or rear and when attacking at a slight distance. You may have already figured that out while playing, but I figured it'd be good to mention. The bind with Heavy Thrust will help you move around an enemy, stand a distance away, and do a heavier attack like a Moonrise.

Hope that helps, and I apologize if any of the information I gave you is wrong or unhelpful! These are really just things I picked up from playing the game and a few things others have told me that I just kind of adapted into how I play my Lancer. I never really had the opportunity to play in large groups, however, so my experiences are mostly based on soloing as a Lancer.
