What is a lancers main role?

Are Lancers pure DD's?
How do they rank with the other DD's if that's the case. :>

As far as i can tell, the physical DD's Lancer, Marauder, Pugilist, Gladiator and Archer seem to have roughly the same damage output. But the Damage of each class is really based off what kind of monster you are fighting. If it is a heavy armor type, the Piercing type damage of a Lancer will out damage the Blunt type of a Pugilist, or that is at least what i have seen so far. Thankfully each class has a few types of weapons they can use for each kind of fight.

So in the end each class seems to be roughly the same, just each has a heavy focus on one kind of damage, but still have a few other weapon choices to help them do a bit more damage to monsters they will not normally do much too.

Lancer weapons so far are as this.

Harpoon's are a mix of mainly Piercing and a little bit of Blunt.
Lance's are a pure Piercing type weapons.
Spear's and Halberd's seem to be a bit mixed but consist of Piercing, Slashing and Blunt type damage.

Well thats my opinion anyway hopefully it helps and if i am wrong hopefully someone will post about it properly :S

Lancer's role is pure DD, with a slight emphasis on getting more TP and doing more weapon skills. Small theme of hitting more than one mob with some attacks.

Also have a theme of providing group buffs like speed surge and life surge, but who knows if that gets fleshed out further.

To add to that, I picked up a few Bronze Javelins to play around with, even though their optimal rank is 12, and I was only rank 6 or 7.

Javelins are 50% Piercing, 50% Projectile. Makes me wonder if any Archer abilities might come into play on throwing weapons.

Pure DPS & TP manipulation.

Lowers enemy TP, enhances self TP, enhances party TP.

Any attempt to rank DPS at this point seems pointless. Most people have not even seen the mid level abilities and I havent even seen anyone w a better weapon than the lvl 9 harpoon.

I partied quite a bit as a Lancer, and used my Conj spells quite a bit as well. I found that doing DD and also focusing on enhancing and reserve cures actually kept the party going quite nicely. Once we figured out battle regiment, the Lancer's abilities coupled with mages began to really shine, too. :D

Out of the 20 javelins I bought, I think I used 10. Out of those 10, I believe I hit about five times. One of those five times appeared to give me a polearm skillup.

I still believe my accuracy (or lack thereof) was tied to the fact that I was below their optimal rank.

What kind of range did they have? Not sure if you played Thaumaturge (medium range), or Archer (long range)? Assuming you tried either of those of course.

I did get "The target is too far away." a few times, so there's a definite maximum range. I can't say for sure what it is, but I'm sure Archer's standard attack has a longer range than throwing weapons.
