Shadowbind seems pointless...Follow

Oh now I see why you'd need it as I've gone a low VIT archer but I've noticed after initial "light shot" to get TP I fire off shadowbind. By the time the animation has finished the mob has covered at least half the distance. Now I could back off a little and make up that space or keep blasting away. The thing is the bind effect wears like 2-3 seconds later making it seem all a little too pointless waste of time effort and tp. The best use I've had from it so far is while duoing and tank lost hate. I blasted SB and that 1-2 allowed tank to regain hate. Also when mobs run off "flee" in leves. Bind them just as they run and lay the smackdown!

so you call it pointless than name 2 things that make it not pointless? :P gg champ

its very usefull if you either link a mob or get agroed or start losing a fight you can bind it and run, it lasts pretty long but the bind breaks out damage(probly why you thought it only lasts 2 seconds)
it also does good damage and cost very little TP,

Sarcasm..... Brilliant.
I didn't know it broke to dmg though. Thought it was a bind to keep archer distance for a lil seeing as I'd heard archers dmg output drops at close range. I've been trying to/under the impression it was for soloing I.e. Bind > spam til bind breaks. Giving archer ability to keep mobs at distance while still attacking.
Thanks for the clarification though champ :D

Uh, yeah... Looks like we have a WoW convert, huh? Not that they're all like that... (Says the guy who sunk 3 years into that game, haha)

It seems that SE has not yet balanced Binds, and they are not lasting as long as intended. As of right now, there is no purpose to having Shadowbind, as the normal bind shot works exactly as well (read: not at all). Even having the AP to place it, I still don't have it on my bar, out of pure indignance.

But keep an eye out on this skill at launch, I am sure it will be crucial for kiting or hate control.

You can lay a nice barrage then shadowbind and back up. I've had it last enough time for me to fully cure myself then I break it with a tp move (Usually Quick Nock if I'm not near anything) It does indeed break on damage. Most mobs I can get them to half health or very close by the time I need to shadowbind then that's enough to stand there and finish them off.

I think they will make some changes to it, reading some of the prerelease party info, at least we can hope.

I've had shadowbind last a long time while soloing lvl 10 guildleves. I'm sure everyone has encountered those leves where you attack groups of mobs (if you hit one, they all come after you). Usually I will shoot one to get tp, then shadowbind it, then switch targets to one of the others that is running at me. The one I shadowbind usually stays in place while I finish the other two off.

It's a 250 TP weapon skill. (In case you hadn't noticed, it does significantly more damage than Light Shot.)

That makes it good enough, at least at low levels. The recast kind of sucks, but that's the tradeoff.

The thing that sucks the most about SB, imo, isn't that it requires TP, but because it misses as often as a regular shot...unlike the (almost) guaranteed stick rate in XI. :(

I don't think the bind rate itself is guaranteed; I hit a leve target with SB right before it attempted to flee, and it ran away just fine anyway.

Best to ignore the names of moves when evaluating them; they don't seem to share much with their FFXI counterparts.

I wish Archers get more effective bind abilities though. A while ago, SE advertised Archer as an effective solo class.

But the lack of binding abilities, the lack of quick repositioning, and the fact that every mob and their grandmother has some sort of ranged attack makes Archer possibly the worst combat class for soloing.

:(

Archers are amazing at soloing if you take advantage of terrain. For instance if you fight in caves where you can shoot the mob but the mob has to run around half the cave to even get to you.. then you can just drop done a step and the mob has to run back to hit you again. Yes all mobs have ranged.. but the ranged isn't its normal attack and there is a cooldown period from what I've noticed to the ranged based attacks. Archers are also by far have higher nominal damage output than any other melee class and is given a generous hp:vit ratio for stats compared to all other range classes (THM/CON)

After getting multishot from the Archer Guild and Quick Nock after hitting lvl 20, shadowbind's usefulness when solo'ing is amazing.

Multishot essentially lets you shoot 3 times at a mob without attacking it to break the bind. Each shot can count toward a skillup individually and crit individually also. You can pretty much spam both Multishot and Quick nock without fear of losing out on skillups.

The Archer class is really starts comming into its own after lvl 20. I'm really enjoying this class atm.

Agreed.

Its actually worth it to macro multishot x2 into every single target non-ws ability you have imo...
