So I'm leveling crafting in the hopes of making a Round Chestnut Shield.
The only problem is, it seems I have to level 4 diff crafting skills to make this?
BS for nails, Armorer for bronze plate, Carpenter for the plank and to assemble the final shield.. but what about the Buffalo Leather Strap? Where do I get Uncolored Buffalo Leather? and is it really necessary to level all 4 crafting skills to make this? Seems very very tedious for an entry level and/or low level shield.
Any advice?

SE has made the different DoH classes highly interdependent for gear synthesis. Not all, but most synthesis recipes for any kind of gear require materials from more than one class. I don't know where to get the buffalo leather bits...you could meander a market ward or check the leathercraft guild/vendor. You can also get Buffalo Leather as a reward for higher rank Leatherworker levequests. Key point is that unless you're gung-ho on the crafting between now and the 19th, you're not going to be making that shield unless you focus on your Carpentry so you can handle the final combine and buy the rest of the materials.

If you really want to putz around with a shield for a while, I'd suggest you just buy one from the NPC in Ul'dah (he has a little shop by himself directly across from the atheryte node in the city).

The interdependence between crafts is going to be a really frustrating barrier until the economy becomes such that parts like nails are readily available. Unfortunately the retainer/market ward system is only going to exacerbate this problem until the community largely recognizes and strives to fix said problem themselves, (or if SE takes appropriate steps to make it work better.)

The biggest hurdle though is knowing when you need ONLY the items from a different class compared to actually needing to have that class leveled.

For example to make a bronze gladius you need:
a bronze gladius blade (level 15ish to craft as blacksmith)
a leather sword gaurd (level 1 leatherworker)
an aldgoat horn sword grip (level 20ish woodworker)
brass rivets (level 10ish armorer)
and animal glue (5ish alchemist)

But to make the actual sword you only need blacksmith trained to level 5 (and not even that if you dont mind risking alot of breakage). and in this particular example you can buy all the parts necessary from npcs. atleast in open beta.

On the other hand, to make Bronze Knuckles you need:
A bronze ingot (level 5 blacksmith)
Buffalo leather (level 20ish Leather)
Buffalo leather strap (level 15ish leather)

BUT you also need rank 15-20 as a black smith and what i would assume is rank 10 leather working, but maybe even rank 15 or 20.

In all likely hood... everyone is going to be running around in level one weapons for weeks until people get the proper classes to the proper levels to make better weapons, unless SE changes how things work.
