Which race are you choosing?Follow

Now that each race has different starter stats are you going to deviate from your original choice? I know we can allocate stats as we level, but I'm curious if there will eventually be an advantage/disadvantage for each race. I'm playing my OB archer as Lalafell, and I will probably stick with that at launch.

Sun seekers have 1 less dex but have 2 more vitality and 2 more str so I went with them, I like the way they look anyway.

I'm rolling Elezen, was going for Wildwood for mere looks(and the fact that they're good in archery) but Duskwights excels Wildwoods in almost all of their stats, I know I'm gonna change classes later, so thinking Duskwight might be a wiser choice, I'm kinda torn right now. =\

Well in terms of pure efficiency, Hyur Highlander wins. Bow damage is based off STR and Accuracy off DEX so you need both of those stats to be high. Add both together since both stats are very important, puts most races in the 20s or maybe 30. Sun Seeker Miqo's get 33 str/dex combined, as do Highlanders. The big difference is that highlanders get 2 more vitality and less caster stats you don't care about anyway.

Endgame it won't make a huge difference what race you go, but highlanders do have the highest str and still very very good dex, so they will still do slightly more damage even endgame, in addition to better hp (which matters a bit more since you want to add as little to VIT as possible).

Plainsfolk Lalafell of course.

Why even question it? ;)

I don't see the stats from each race being much of an issue as long as you allocate your points correctly. FFXI really limited you on the race you could be to do certain jobs and I think they are trying to address that.

With the right gear anything could happen. I was thinking back to when I saw Taru's playing PLD or MNK. The race stats needed to be supplemented with awesome gear, which I'm sure many wont be able to afford.

As for me:
Mi'qote Keeper of the moon. Hopefully. but if I get to many guys hitting on me again Lalafell Planesfolk. I miss playing as a Mithra WHM AND I would also be the puller.

I barely played the beta and while they claim wildwood elezen are the best archers I would have to say, that with how you select your own stats that's probably not the case, anyone actually figured if there's any advantage other than personal preference?

Most people are missing a big point in stat allocation. The initial disparity in racial stats do not compound at all (FFXI allotted stats disproportionaltey EVERY level based on your race). This means that if one race has a 4 DEX advantage over another race, it will alwasy remain only a 4 DEX advantage. So unless you really think that you will never put even a few points towards anything else but DEX, then Race is 100% completely irrelevant.

Since I seriously doubt that anyone will not at least put a few points into STR or VIT over the course of 50 levels, then race matters exactly 0%.

This.

I played taru in FFXI and eventually hated the way i looked. Went with Miqo'te Sun seeker this time. The different color eyes sold me.

I went Duskwight Elezen. No problem with acc or dmg so far. I'm actually happy and enjoying it.
