Which crafting/gathering class?Follow

Anyone have any ideas on which would probably be more handy for the class? I know in XI Woodworking was a big one for making bolts and arrows to cut costs on leveling. After looking through the classes I am thinking maybe Carpentry will be replacing it to make arrow and such. Most likely arrowheads will be from maybe the blacksmith depending on which kind of arrow you make. I have read that different arrows will work better on different mobs. All theory at this point and maybe Leatherworking will probably another class that some archers might work on. As far Disciples of the Land maybe mining could be the only one of slight value I an maybe see happening if blacksmithing gets used heavily.

For DoL probably botanist because it says they can harvest herbs but ALSO lumber from trees. That would be needed for the wood in carpentry. Not sure how arrowheads would work. But the official site says there are poison arrows, so maybe alchemists will make those?

Maybe quite possible. I can see a lot of Archers maybe using poison arrow's at the start of a fight and once the effect is on switching to something more damaging. Nice to know about botanist I must have missed that in my reading. Very very excited cant wait for September. Wish I knew more but I think I am a fan for not lifting the NDA till CE release so that everyone can be suprised.

Wouldn't you need Botnaist, Mining, Woodworking, Blacksmith?

Tentative information gathering has provided that if open beta is similar to b3, the best combo is currently ww + botany (seeing as how LW I think requires herding, which I didn't hear much of during any phase)

Botany will offer Wood, and a temp STR boost.
WW offers a specialization in flechery (or arrow making).
(Also mined - a lvl 50 WW skill that prevents fail of 1 synth, but the betas caps have been 30)

On the other hand, fishing adds a dex bonus, but it's minor determining stat is PIE D:

My plan is Bot+WW all the way, unless you need smithing for Muskateer, in which case I beeline for that (and mining) when more information is available.

Because the gathering are separate classes, you could level them all up correct? We aren't limited to choosing one or two professions like in other MMOs right?

This is correct, although maxing a craft for a week will capped your physical exp, you can switch to any other DoW, DoL, or DoH, and gain full exp. If it doesn't sound like a handful, just keeping one DoH/DoL up is 30 hrs/ week . Not counting DoWs/DoMs, or leves @_@ (although from what I hear, leves are a fantastic way to level crafts)

As a bonus, I'll post the mined stuff (the actual precision is suspect, and the site half ffxiv half naked ffxiv, so I don't recommend it in the least without thall that shall not be named armed and ready on firefox, but the data looks solid from what we know of the game)

In beta3 triangulate 3 wasn't there at lvl 20 although it was in beta2. I also thinks sweat of brow had been removed at lvl 15. I have a feeling that triangulate 3 was a guild mark purchase like the list at the bottom. I guess we have to wait a day or two to see what open beta can clarify.

The level 15 WW skill is the same for all crafts as far as I know. The higher level abilities I can't comment on but would love to see a full list. Do you have a source for them?

Lol it's funny how because of the surplus, people talk as if anything but reaching the surplus every week is unacceptable. Everyone talks in terms of "how many jobs can I keep at surplus every week." Seems to me like the surplus is going to make people play MORE, not less like everyone thinks.

But yeah I'll probably just stick to 2 "profession" classes to keep things simple, I don't have 30 hours a week to spend on the game, let alone on professions!

Forgive the stupid question, but how does one "add" a profession? I'm wandering around as an archer, and from this thread want to explore botany, but can't figure out how to pick up the class.

This is what was required for poison heads in XI

So possibly, though are there any dual craft requirements like this in XIV?
Its possible the arrow heads themselves might be a 2 stage process with alchy applying posion to a basic head.
