Just make sure that you and your partner are on the same page when you start feeling the need to indulge that Life Urge. Don't want things getting awkward, you know?

Gonna have to go look those up, I don't have them right in front of me to come up with uses for them yet.

I figured in this thread we can speculate on possibilities for Lancer based upon the information we currently have about the class and the combat system.

Taking inventory of our known abilities from the wikibase:

Abilities:

Comrade in Arms: Bolster morale, consuming TP to place enfeebling effect on the target which grants attacking party members enhanced TP generation.
Ferocity: Trigger an adrenaline rush, consuming HP to increase the attack power of you next attack.
Invigorate: Channel your physical energies consuming HP to gain TP.
Collusion: Employ deception, transferring the enmity generated by your next successful attack to an ally positioned between you and the enemy
Life Surge: Make sport of an enemy, gaining the ability to absorb HP. While active, successful attacks reduce the targets evasion.

(Please note I skipped the WS part of Eske's post.)

Personally, if there's going to be party vs. party battles like the devs said, I expect to be using alot of Collusion + Skewer. Just need a Gladiator willing to stand in front of me while I Skewer the enemies in front of him/her.

Ahhhh I can't wait for this game. I have so many gameplay questions. Like...

1) I wonder if only the Lancer gains HP or the whole party gets the spoils too?

2) Can these skills be combined like SATA in FFXI?

3) If used in a chain with other party members "effect making" skills will they be stacked or will the new one cancel out the first one?

Me too man. The first couple of months are going to be a lot of fun, exploring and discovering new things all over the place! Can't wait.

The first 6 months that the game is out will be my time to "learn by reading" After that the PS3 version comes out and I get to play catch-up with all of you.

Happy trail blazing! On a side note, I think it's pretty sad that I'm so excited for the game that since I can't play at launch I'm excited to read what other people are doing.

Well, I would be too. I'd be choking down any new morsel of info that came out, in an attempt to hit the ground running when I join everyone else later on. It's a bummer that PS3 players have to gut it out for so long, though.

1. I'm pretty sure only the Lancer will be gaining HP from the ability.

2. One of the latest interview I'd read, it talked about the Battle system, there's going to be something similar to the skill chain, but it seems they're taking it to the next level. From what I read the new skill chain system doesn't ONLY deal extra elemental damage, it would also put a buff on the whole party or a debuff on the mob depends on the combination. To chain up different skills, it doesn't have to be WS, it can be a normal attack or an ability. So I'm pretty excited to check it out when the game releases.

3. I'm guess there will be a max number of effects you can put on a mob and some effects can be stack up (to a certain number) and some can't, so when the number of debuffs reached to the cap, new effects should cancel out the old ones. As for the effects that are stackable, when the max number is reached, the effect will just stay at the max number.

The description of the ability states that the Lancer as well as those attacking will gain HP. Works just like a Dancer's Drain Samba.

I'd be very happy if it was like Drain Samba. So far each class seems to have a way to help keep the party alive. Making the search for a free "WHM" who wants to party less vital. I like! No offence WHMs, I was once in your ranks too.

Looks like Ferocity + Collusion might be the next SATA. It does seem like a lot more emphasis is put on your attacking position, since watching the battle logs you notice "from the left/right/back" popping up frequently. Any data on how position effects damage/accuracy yet?

Yeah, on a related note, don't use Skewer when a neutral mob is between you and your enemy. I found that out the hard way. Smiley: glare

This is what I have found to be true so far:

From the flanks, mob's evasion is reduced (maybe by like 50%)
From the rear, the mob's evasion is reduced to 0, so it will never evade your attacks.
From all positions you can still "Miss"
