We are the Shields of Eorzea. We protect those who can't protect themselves. We are the first ones into a battle, and the last ones off the battlefield, but how we protect the weak is up us. How well you protect?
Are you going to get tons of def, low atk, able to take hits, but not do much dmg to the enemy. Well you add white magic to cure you and you're allies, or maybe add dark magic to dmg the enemy before they get to you and the allies you are protecting.

Myself. I think i'm going to do a mix of def and str. More def then str though. While add some magic def so I can live when I get hit by magic. def > str/dex > magic def.

Not sure if i'll add cure spells yet. Mostly try to put as much def, atk, and hate ability's as I can from other jobs.
All can change once the games come out. This is what I hope able to do once the game comes out.

I'm not really sure how I want to approach Gladiator yet, though I do know it's gonna be my "main". I suppose it depends on if we're able to allocate spells/abilities from other classes, and if so, how many slots do we get, is there a restriction on which spells/abilities we are able to set, will the spells/abilities we set from other classes be fully operational or will they be reduced in effect or strength?

Assuming that we do get to set spells/abilities (which I'm currently understanding as we do and it's like the BLU system in XI), I think I'll definitely try and set some white magic to assist in self-dependency while also being able to help others. Depending on our native attack and defensive abilities I may try and compensate for one or the other. I want to be able to take a whoopin', but I also want to give as good of one as I can too.

Hmm think I'll prolly focus more on def at first mixed with some healing magic. I plan to play with a group so figure stack up on def since I hope to have DD with me. And no matter what job i'm on I always love having some sort or way to heal myself!

I have no beef with the magic classes at all, my character on FFXI was WHM70, BLM45+, SMN40+. But with my Gladiator I would want to concentrate solely on melee and defence if its possible. I would wanna be an 'expert' in melee fights and defending others. If intrigrating magic was essential to the class then yeah it could be healing magic

I will be starting out boosting my VIT and STR, then adding hate-gathering & curing abilities from a couple of other classes and working on my defense. I want to be an Eorzean Paladin in the service of Azeyma, the Warden. ^_^

I read in one of the posts in the general forum that DoM abilites on a DoW class changes the dynamics of those abilities. For example, putting a Conjurer's Cure spell on a Gladiator makes it self-target instead of AoE. If this is true, you may want to take that into consideration. I used to play a Paladin in FFXI, and one of the things I did to maintain hate was throw the occasional Cure spell on whatever heavy-hitting DD would be in my party. You wouldn't be able to do that as Gladiator.

Yeah there's a lot of stuff that is general speculation right now, that we won't know about one way or the other (even the people in the beta) until the game is released because of how often S-E is changing things up right now. For now I'll stick with my plan of building as Paladin-like of a character as I can, and when the game hits the shelves we'll see what I need to change.

When I play Gladiator, I will probably focus my stats and armor on defense and health. As a tank, I don't think it will be important that the Gladiator does much damage. As long as we can keep hate, and keep ourselves and others alive... we are doing our job. It's hard to say exactly what abilities we will choose from other classes because it's still not clear how ability sharing will work. I agree with what Malkio says:

I hope that the gladiator will be able tank without becoming a FFXI Paladin.

I do too. That would be why i'll level other jobs with a heal ability, and take those to heal myself instead of spells. So wont have to use mp, just tp for ability's. Just depends on the limitations to it.
