http://www.thanalanalliance.shivtr.com/

We are an Australian-based casual Link Shell/Free Company, established since beta (that is v1.0 beta, not to be confused as ARR beta) so we are one of the longest running Link Shells in-game. As a priority, we are looking for English-speaking players in GMT+8 to GMT+12 time zone.

Quote:
Please visit our website, click on 'Apply' at the top, create a Shivtr account if you need to and fill in the application form. We may ask you questions and you can respond simply by posting on your application page. Also feel free to ask us any questions you have in the field provided.

Finalising applications should only take a few days at the most.

Please note that we are a LS community of multiple FC. The Linkshell is primarily founded by 2 FC: one close-knitted hardcore FC that progressed to Turn 5 Bahamut Coil and one casual FC that progressed to Turn 2 Bahamut Coil

We now have a full active Link Shell and over 60 members in our Free Company.

'ello there, Thanalan Alliance members. I'm looking for casual, friendly and social folks to hang out and chat with atm, and I am considering Gysahl as a server. Atm I am looking around trying to get a feel of what the communities and the LSs are like on the various servers. You guys sound friendly enough - tell me though, are your players friendly and chatty as a whole, or is more of a gathering place for selected players to form groups? And what about the server as a whole - how are the folks on there in general? Friendly? Social?

Hi Animus, It's a chatty linkshell.. at least whenever I have been online.

I'm a little picky about joining linkshells, so I used my application to make sure the linkshell was right for me. It might be a while before the leaders notice your reply here, so I would visit the forum linked in the first post and ask any questions there.

Their (I suppose I should say "our") recruiting is based around getting a good community of players. Even though most of the members were friends well before I joined, their open door policy for dungeons and groups (provided you are within a sensible rank range) meant that I had no trouble joining in.

I have never got that 'elitist' vibe from them and it hasn't taken me long to make some friends there.

Hey, about to pick this game up. Even though all I've read are horrible reviews of the game, I'm still willing to give FFIX a try. Personally I like the old hardcore MMOs and other games nowadays are way too casual or the community is all about raiding and loot and not so much about fun. Plus I've been wanting to explore a new game for quite some time now and am ready to take the plunge!

So before I go purchase the game there are several questions maybe find some answers to, I've Googled my fair share and found this site has a pretty good community so might as well try here.

Is there currently just one version of the game, English & Japanese? There isn't any server or locality restriction to what version I buy right? Because I've seen European, English, and Japanese version and want to clear this up before I buy the wrong game for where I am >_<!

Should I buy the collectors edition? Its not that much more than the standards price so if its worth it I will pick that up instead.

This might sound like a noob question, but to my knowledge, it is still free to play and will continue till they fix all the problems...right?

Are servers region specific? I'm in Asia and a little worry I might pick the wrong server and see incredible lag, that or be in complete different timezones with other players that I will never see a person around to play with.

What are the population looking like now? I heard that a lot of players left so I don't want to join a ghost server for the obvious reasons. I remember FF11 I had to pay to switch servers which was just ridiculous, this time I want to get it right from the get go.

Lastly, if i do join the Gysahl server, how are the SEA/AU population looking? The game would be meaningless without a group of people to play with. Whats the community like in your LS? Any room for a newbie starting fresh?

1. There are three versions of the game: North America, Europe, and Japan. The version of the game you buy must be the same as your SE account. If you have an SE account registered under North America, your game must also be the NA version for them to be compatible. As for the discs themselves, it doesn't matter which version you buy, you have the option to choose between installing the game in English, Japanese, German, or French languages. It also doesn't matter where in the world you are, you can buy any of the 3 versions of the game and play it as long as it matches your SE account. For example, I live in Thailand and I'm playing an NA version of the game using an SE account registered as NA.

2. If you have money to throw around, go ahead and pick up the CE. It has a unique item or two that normal retail version doesn't. The EU CE also comes with a physical map in the box, I believe.

3. There is currently no monthly fee. It will continue to be free until SE thinks the game is satisfactory enough to charge a monthly fee. It could be a month from now, it could be three months from now, it could be a year. No one knows for sure.

4. The servers are not region-specific. All servers are located in Japan. Anyone in any part of the world can play on any server.

5. The game just went retail for a few months and is in the process of huge improvements, so it's impossible to tell right now what the population of each server will be like in the long run. I wouldn't worry about "ghost towns" though, if servers are under-populated I'm sure SE would merge a few.

6. Gysahl has a bunch of Japanese players. I live in Thailand so I play during the evening to late night Asian time. There are some English-speaking people playing at this time of the night, but obviously most of the players are Japanese.

Hope that helps!

Thanks! That really helped, beats googling everywhere for answers.

I heard Besaid or Bodhum have some oceanic players, hopefully i can find some in my timezone to play with, as this kind of game gets old real fast when playing alone.

Damn I'm starting to wish I created on this server instead of Rab. Only people on during Aus peak times on Rabanastre are the Japanese which I know very little how to speak/read. :( Story of my life, every MMO I've played I somehow pick the one server that doesn't have an oceanic presence!

the Oceanic/AU presence in Gyashl is strong, probably stronger than any other server as it was decided to be the unofficial oceanic server before launch.

Of course theres plenty of japanese here, but it seems the same everywhere else.

Our LS has a great community. We welcome all, new or old, but especially those who are planning to stay with the game.

Like Mariya said, if youre interested sign up.
