My friend's server is not working right, although I'm not quite sure what the problem is. It's quite sad too, because this is the first time I'll have gotten to test out the update.

That was my bad, I didn't see anyone on so I shut off the server because it was lagging my Netflix a little. Turned it back on.

Edit; They need to add Triffids to SMP.

Compatibility issue with the version of the ZMA Tool I'm using and the latest version of the Minecraft server. I'm checking out the replacement options, so for now just add a ! to the beginning of your text to have it display.

NOV 30 update wrote:
Bug update #3.

The client version is now 1.2.4
The server version is now 0.2.6 (mandatory update, there’s been protocol changes)

Bug fix list:

* Swords and other weapons now deal damage properly
* Added proper hurt animations and sounds to mobs and players
* Fixed dead players logging in as invisible ghosts
* Made arrows visible and deal damage
* Hoes now produce proper seeds
* Creepers make noises and animate before exploding
* Explosions animate properly
* No more infinite free arrows
* Server logging now appends to server.log rather than overwriting it
* Buttons and levers (and a few other blocks probably, it’s a general solution) animate properly
* Fixed minecarts (and pigs!) moving twice as fast as they should when ridden.
* The join server screen now remembers the last entered ip
* Increased chunk saving frequency on the server
* Leaving sneak mode no longer triggers a million sounds
* You can now see sneaking players
* Names of sneaking players aren’t visible through walls, and are visible a much shorter distance
* Snowballs!!

I’ll monitor for bugs for a while, then head home!

[edit:]

Server 0.2.6_01 no longer gives everyone 64 snowballs on connecting

[edit:]

Server 0.2.6_02 and client 1.2.4_01 now spawn other monsters than ONLY CREEPERS EVERYWHERE

You'll probably be playing on that server for awhile. Everytime Notch updates I have to wait for the admin tool to be updated to work with the new version of Minecraft. I found a different admin tool with a better update rate, but I can't use the lava nerfs with it. So all the people who thought it would be fun to build with lava not surrounded or stopped by glass or rock would lose it all if I switched to the other tool.

I sorta think that's all pretty much fixed...the lighthouses are out and fixed, Paskil's letters are gone, I can't think of any lava roaming free, maybe someone else can?

I think pretty much all free lava has been cleaned up... I may have some down in my little locked tunnel, but it's only like, 3 blocks with nothing to flow onto but some obsidian.

Got Minecraft yesterday; I'm about 4% in to a huge base building project. It's a sky palace, which is by itself is a fairly unoriginal idea, but I think my take on it will be fairly impressive. First of all it's quite large, 63 meter diameter, and second I just want to say nested spheres, waterfalls, and back lighting.

I'll post a few pics as I progress. Right now I really just need to mine hundreds of thousands of dirt clumps.

Well I got a whole left section completed tonight. There's a lot of scaffolding still in place, but you can begin to see the sphere shape. I'm thinking it might be best to do the diagonal portions last.

I also thought I'd show my awful, awful blueprint. It's a combination of powerpoint and ms paint... I wish I still had autocad on this computer.

I don't have nearly the resolution for that. The triangle is there to represent where tetrahedral cuts will be made into the sphere. The plan is to nestle a hemisphere (or slightly less than that) inside the outersphere with circular cuts in a tetrahedral arrangement to server as openings. That innersphere portion will be the platform to build upon.

I also briefly contemplated making it the deathstar, but my lust for geometry far outweighs that for Star Wars.

My place had torches covering the walls, so maybe putting them on the ground will make a difference.

Edit: Just logged back in with a creeper staring me down. Good thing I made this place out of obsidian.

I have all four cardinal walls up to midway, with one horizontal segment connecting two of them. I had to fix major segments of two of the large walls because I miscounted by a single block >.<, but it wasn't too bad. I've built myself and AFK house in the middle of the sphere because I've had a few monsters pop up on me in the thing despite my best efforts to keep it well lit.

Building the thing has been fairly pleasant and not too grueling. I mine and hunt pigs--to replace lost health from falling off scaffolding--during the day, and since I'm primarily mining dirt I get to stay above ground enjoying the view and relatively safe from monsters. At night I build by torchlight.
Screenshot

A friend added waterfalls to fill the bottom with water and protect me from some fall damage.

Tirith's workshop is on fire. It looks like it started recently because it continues to spread and catch wooden parts on fire.

Edit:

We put the fire out, but the building is heavily damaged. There are some wooden areas that survived though. Supposedly the fire was started by the **** gate near a wooden floor. I just lost connection and can't seem to get back online.

We put out the fire. Tirith next time you may not want to build your hellgate directly under your wood floor, or your lava storage next to it. Your entire 3rd flood is gone, and random wood sections of the walls are gone too.

I didn't realize **** gates were fire sources. I didn't even realize my **** gate was active?
Also... how did something in the basement catch the third floor on fire? Confusing.

I don't really care about the burn though, it's an easy fix.

I was going on by what I saw in you house that could start fires, the only section on fire on the first floor was the wood floor above your hellgate and next to your lava storage. As for the 3rd floor my guess it that once the first floor caught fire it spread to the wall and followed that up to the 3rd floor.

Investigating my workshop... I do not see where the fire came from.

The third floor was isolated from the small amount of lava on the first floor by an entire floor made of stone. The section of the first floor that caught fire and was destroyed wasn't even the section of wood closest to the lava. The **** gate isn't active (pretty sure, I never lit it). The two sections of the workshop that started fire... there couldn't have been a flammable connection between them.

Strange.

I did notice that Shaow's area, the trees are all burned down.

Yeah, I did that. Creepers kept hiding in the trees outside the entrance, and on the top floor of my base the trees were shielding a zombie from the sunlight.

That's right, I burned down a forest to kill one zombie. Don't **** with me, I'm CRAZY!!!

Yes, it just loads a bit of land, but when you get to the edge, it doesn't load more. You can glance down and see pretty much everything, including all the ores stored under ground. You just see large cliffs, I've seen Diamond, Gold, Redstone, etc.

I think it's lag related.
