I've spent the last week playing with monster traps. Sitting on 2 large chests full of gunpowder Smiley: lol not to mention enough arrows and feathers and string to never need em again... Now to make some TnT... just need an idea on what to blow up, or maybe I'll play with the canon designs I've seen online... Smiley: sly

*edit*

Oh and
An update is coming tomorrow

First of all, most “mods” that add new features to the game are in a very gray area legally, and I frown upon them. Most of them add really cool new features, though. It’s highly likely that something like the bridge mod will make it into the game.

Now, the update.
I was going to release this today, but it’s 6 pm already and my fiancée turns 30 today (I love you, ez!), so I’ll go eat a nice dinner instead.

Here’s what’s already done for the update:

General fixes:
* players and mobs in lava or fire no longer spam sound effects
* getting hit with a higher damage while recovering from a smaller one now works as intended
* lava flows further in the Nether
* zombie pigs eventually forgives
* added support for custom texture packs
* fixed duplicate buttons when resizing screens
* zombie pigs and ghasts no longer get hurt by fire or lava
* fixed volume sliders now saving properly

Multiplayer fixes:
* hellworld=true no longer overwrites old save chunks. Player positions will still break if you switch it on a running server, though
* boats are now visible to other players
* minecarts move nicer
* fishing kinda sorta works, but needs more work
* sheep and cows look like sheep and cows now
* buckets work now
* fixed stairs being really difficult to destroy
* increased the timeout before “Took too long to log in”
* made it possible to ride carts and boats (pigs should work too..)

There are a couple of bugs left, like it not being possible to steer the boats yet, and other players not having the riding animation when riding. Fishing also works horribly poorly. Once I’ve fixed that tomorrow, I’ll release an update for both the server and the client.

From here

Hmmm? Giant tree is working so far. Only got one layer, but I'll start the next soon. Just need to place some dirt to grow more trees on, and replace the dirt with wood blocks once the trees grow. I'm only 7 blocks up so far, but I'm trying to decide if I want to keep it as a 3x3 trunk or expand.

I assume that's next. The minecarts are a good start though...

But yea, my interest in this game is waning until multiplayer invincibility is fixed.

Updates out (What happened to Fridays? Not really complaining though...)

Minecraft Alpha v1.2.2, Minecraft Server 0.2.4

A whole pile of bug fixes in this one. There’s still a lot more to do, coming over the next couple of weeks or so.

General fixes:
* players and mobs in lava or fire no longer spam sound effects
* getting hit with a higher damage while recovering from a smaller one now works as intended
* lava flows further in the Nether
* zombie pigs eventually forgives
* added support for custom skin packs
* fixed duplicate buttons when resizing screens
* zombie pigs and ghasts no longer get hurt by fire or lava
* fixed volume sliders now saving properly

Multiplayer fixes:
* hellworld=true no longer overwrites old save chunks. Player positions will still break if you switch it on a running server, though
* boats are now visible to other players
* minecarts move nicer
* fishing kinda sorta works, but needs more work
* sheep and cows look like sheep and cows now
* buckets work now
* fixed stairs being really difficult to destroy
* increased the timeout before “Took too long to log in”
* made it possible to ride carts and boats
* added (after lots of work) the ability to steer server-side boats
* added “no-animals” setting. if true, animals will immediately vanish
* added support for more animation settings. Currently it’s just the “riding” animation, but the same system will be used for sneaking

To make a texture pack, make a zip file that contains the files you wish to replace, then place that zip file in the texture pack folder. There’s a handy button ingame to open that folder immediately.

If you place a “pack.png” file in the root of the zip file, it’ll show up as a preview icon. Please make sure it’s square, and of an even 2^x size. For example, 128x128 pixels.
If you place a “pack.txt” file in the root of the zip file, the first two lines will show up as a description for the texture pack.

From Here!

In other important news, if you ride a pig with a saddle and aim at their heads to throw snow balls, it knocks them into the air. And you can spam snowballs, putting you further up.

Yes, you can fly pigs through the air. You can't steer them, but up they go!

Smiley: lol I must try that later tonight!

Need snowballs though.... I'm sure there's a snowy area somewhere in my world.. Haven't explored real far out yet.

But after the update I did have a skelly riding one of my minecarts around my house taking pop shots at me everytime he passed Smiley: lol

The mob attacks are funny, but the rest of it is kinda meh. Still, kudos to him for making the video.

No, I maxed it out. The entire area was covered in fog during the morning. Fog and cows.

Edit: Just logged in and it was back to normal, still too many **** cows. Keep the fires going though.

My husband makes fun of me because I squeal in fright whenever one of them pops up. Or if I suddenly get attacked by a skeleton arrow and wasn't expecting it, or I hear a zombie. I have no idea why this game makes me so jumpy, I've never had that happen before. Smiley: lol

Today's update:

Quote:
The few hours I’ve been able to work today, I tried getting SMP Health as complete as possible. It will be released early next week.

Here’s the status:

* Send attack network data: DONE
* Add the ability to attack other entities: DONE
* Implement falling damage: NOT STARTED
* Implement respawning for dead players: PARTIALLY DONE (there are bugs with the player keeping the current location in some circumstances instead )
* Make eating food regenerate health: DONE
* Send health updates to the players: DONE

The “attack entities” code is done on a general level, so you can hurt animals, monsters, boats, carts and even other players.

There are a couple of other tweaks in the next update as well:

* Fix leaves. Again: DONE
* Optimize the lighting update slowdowns: STARTED
* Make players riding carts or boats a long way receive terrain updates: DONE
* Fix the block re-spawning bug: NOT STARTED
* Add “pvp” toggle flag to the server settings: NOT STARTED.

So... anyone up for some PvP?

My brother has said that his latest spawned map chunks have been acting strangely. He had a cave which had an opening under water. But the water was just a flat wall. Until he placed a torch in the space next to it, that caused all the water of the flat wall to start flowing in.

He also had an underwater cave that the ceiling was made entirely of sand, suspended in air. As soon as he placed a torch near the ceiling, it caused a chain reaction and all the sand collapsed, then the water started flowing in from above.

It actually sounded like it would be pretty cool the see happen. But it's very strange that the world would generate like that.

Gah, the update is coming tomorrow because I’m silly

I tried to do a Minecraft update today, and it turns out I didn’t bring the keystore with the private certificate key to the office.. I set a reminder alarm on my cellphone to remind me tonight to bring it.

So.. Update tomorrow, with working SMP health, including fighting monsters and other players.

Looks like PVP coming in tomorrows update!

Linky!

Go patch!

SMP Health Update is out

I’m expecting bugs on this one, so I’m monitoring the usual channels (irc, twitter, email) extra carefully.

Basically everything I talked about in the last post is done, with some extras such as visible hurt animations (how did I forget that?) and visible fire on burning mobs.

The lighting still isn’t right, I need to rewrite it. I think I know what the problem is now, though. Or rather, I know what ONE problem is. You know when you’re traveling by boat, and you see weird strips of light on the ocean floor in multiplayer? That.

Also needed is visible armor on players and mobs (sheep!), and some tweaks to reduce laggy moving mobs. And bows and arrows.

There are a couple of new settings for the server:
pvp. True by default. If this is set to false, players can’t hurt other players.
spawn-monsters. True by default. Set to false to remove all monsters.
spawn-animals. Also true by default. Set to false to remove all animals.

[edit:]

Wow, that broke the game. Hold on while I try to fix stuff.

[edit:]

I’ve uploaded a new server and a new client, fixing the two major bugs I heard about.
I had to disable leaves decaying again (sorry!) because it caused infinite loops in certain situations.

Keep me posted, and I’ll keep fixing!

Well, if you dare Smiley: lol

Link.

I had my client set to Peaceful, and didn't see the monsters, even after logging out/logging in.

Then I changed my client to Easy and logged out/in, and can see the monsters ok now. There are TONS of creepers around my castle, and I'm pretty sure I saw half a dozen zombies in the empty space underneath the basement. Could see them when I logged in, as the ground was being spawned around me.

Every time I die, I respawn in a large empty void. I have to use the /home command to get back to being able to move around.

Tested the server again with mine and Ikkian's accounts. I think there is an compatibility issue with the admin tool and the animal damage update, I couldn't kill a chicken with anything. Disabled animals and monsters for now, you can still take damage from falling/lava/drowning/auto-erotic asphyxiation. If you need any specific items from animals/monsters let me know and I'll create a kit.

I killed a pig when I first logged on with no real problem... Didn't try to kill anything else, and just kind of hid from the monsters though.

Same, but after I tried with Ikkian's account the problem spread to mine. I think he infected my server. Smiley: um

It's totally MY fault!

I couldn't agree more.
