Where can a fresh 50 get a 5-piece set of moddable gear?

The PVP sets are out because I haven't even started grinding Valor yet.

Anywhere else I can get some moddable gear to throw the daily reward mods/armors/enhancements in?

Just to state the obvious, the auction house? And how do you not already have a full set of moddable gear (barring belt and bracers) from commendations vendors and quest rewards?

You can buy assorted moddable pieces from vendors, iirc, if you just fly world to world you'll at least be nearly to a full set.

And you can get a full set of moddable gear (for a LOT of money) at the legacy vendors.

I've been meaning to ask a really basic question about gear in SWTOR and this seems like a good place as I'm approaching level 50... Is the only difference between orange and purple level gear that the purple gear comes with high level mods already slotted? Flicking through Torhead, the high level instance drops seem to have the same number of slots for enchancements as the orange level gear you could buy for commendations 30 levels ago.

Sory for the orange and purple gear descriptions but I can never remember what the in-game names are. One is artifact maybe..?

Well, I had a set, but I kind of accidentally sold it when I dinged 50. By the time I realized I had done it, it had disappeared frrom the vendor's buyback tab, I figured the auction house, but the only things people seem to post on there are the augmented ones that cost a fortune. I just need something to throw the mods from the dailies in until I have enough valor to craft myself a set of augmented war hero gear.

I would love to get the moddable set from the legacy vendor but I don't think my legacy is high enough level yet.

Edit: And yes, the only difference between artifact (purple) and custom (orange) is the quality of the slotted items.

Unless the Moddable item was a critical crafting result, in which case it will have an augment slot and be superior to purple gear.

So I have 2 options, it seems. Grind valor and make myself crit-crafted War Hero gear to use in PVE with the modifications I get from doing the dailies, or grind up legacy levels and buy the legacy gear from the vendor in DK. The crafting option will probably be cheaper, especially because I already have almost an entire stack of the silk I need and I can farm up the crystals and artifacts.

Speaking of crit crafting war hero gear, I'm the only 400 synthweaver in my guild. The other day one of our marauders asked me to craft him a set of augmented war hero gear other than the chest, which he already had. He gave me 99 each of the artifacts, crystals, ciridium, and the vendor crafting mat. I got a crit on the boots and head on my 2nd craft. Got a crit on the gloves on my 3rd craft. All I had left was the pants. It took me 33 tries to crit the pants. Yes I said 33, T-H-I-R-T-Y T-H-R-E-E!

Why not just buy a set of moddable gear off the GTN in the meantime, while you accrue augmented gear for your final look style?

Unless you actually like the PVP gear look, of course. I generally hate them all.

The schematics are very common for level 50 orange stuff. If you have a synthweaver or armourtech you trust you could get them to run up a set. I certainly have far more schematics than I can use. Unfortunately that doesn't help you but hopefully you have a guildie or friend who can help.

The other alternative to your two is to grind up a crafter. Smiley: smile

The war hero survivor's gear doesn't look too terrible, although I'd much prefer the classic Jedi loose-fitting hooded robe for my tankassin. I'd really like to find a completed set of moddable gear that includes all 5 pieces and I also need a set of augmented gear eventually. The war hero's survivor stuff meets both criteria and is probably cheaper than buying separate moddable pieces off the GTN. I just need to grind the **** out of valor to be able to wear it.

In the meantime I'll just pick up the odd moddable piece I find and slot it into my set. I'm a hair below 18k unbuffed HP right now and haven't even run a single FP past Red Raider, so there's probably a lot of gear out there for me, I just need to start looking for it.

You could always pick up the level 40 pvp pieces again. Yes, it's coms that aren't going towards BM stuff, but as far as looks go I find that the level 40 sets tend to outdo the level 50 ones, barring a few exceptions. Personally, I'd say at least the chest/helm/legs would be worth it, depending (i.e. whether or not you would even feasibly see the legs as a 'Sin, since, you know, robes and all that).

There should be some really really cheap oranges on the AH, considering everyone and their mom are spamming crafts to crit augmented gear. And since we are later going to be able to add augment slots ourselves, it's not a complete waste of credits.

Alternatively, check your currency tab. If you have 10-14 commendations from any planet, go check their equipment vendor. You can get some orange pieces at basically no cost if you've outgrown all their offerings anyway.

Yeah, along that note, running BT/Esseles normal and then doing the heroirs on DK/Coruscant will net you enough coms to pick up some items from the respective commendation vendors easily. I think you can nab another piece or two from there, not to mention moddable weapons that you can use to fill out all of your companions.

Good idea on that. I'm not too worried about weapons for my companions because of the heroic on Belsavis that rewards the moddable weapons for them. Not to mention I would have to buy mods and enhancements off the GTN because the daily quest rewards are class specific. The only thing I will need is a vibroknife for Talos, although the one he currently has is decent, IIRC.

Thanks for all the ideas, guys. Now I just need to put together a look I like and do enough dailies for 5 sets of armoring/mod/enhancments.

If you are going to run lower level FPs for commendations, be sure to bring along the level appropriate companion (Like T7-01 for the Esseles). You'll be able to gain a shocking number of affection points--450+ per run for most companions for light side, and maybe 100 less for dark (though maybe some get a starting companion that likes DS choices, IDK).

VERY easy way to max out your first companion. Particularly if you went Consular, because chances are you rarely made Qyzen happy (picky *******).

Jedi Prisoner is another one for affection.

TORHead comments will tell you all you need to know for most companions.

Since when did the mods/enhs become class specific? Last time I did the heroics (or at least the enhancement one on Ilum) I was able to slot it into my companion gear just fine.

Or is there another one I'm not thinking about because my mind is still on my Barbarian cleaving demons in twain?

Did I see it correctly that you are an assassin? If so, you can pick up any of the social gear on any planet for really cheap.

Maybe it's just the armoring that is class-specific. And by class-specific, I mean I get a choice of a High endurance + willpower armoring or a high willpower + endurance armoring. The mod and enhancement I can't swear that they have willpower on them, although I seem to remember that they do.

It's been awhile since I got the mods, but the last Enhancement I got, which was about two weeks ago maybe, gave me four choices. Crit/Surge, Power/Alacrity, Defense/Surge (I think) and Shield/Absorption all with Endurance as the third stat.

As for the armorings, I just used daily coms to buy the armorings/hilts/barrels for my companions. You could get higher level stuff if you want to watch your companions solo gold mobs I guess, but I find for solo questing at 50 the daily commendation stuff works out just fine. Trick out your most commonly used companion first and it just makes the whole thing go much smoother.

I'm worried about getting a set of moddable gear for myself. What I'm doing is I'm grabbing augment slot gear every time I get a full set of the mods to fill them with. I'll worry about looks once I have the valor to wear the war hero gear. Granted, by then 1.3 will probably be out and adding augment slots will be pathetically easy.

As far as companions, the only ones I ever use are Talos Drellik and Ashara Zaros. Talos' gear is good enough to keep me alive tanking whatever I'm crazy enough to tank. Now that I have 2 of the lightsabers for Ashara from that one Belsavis daily she does more than good enough damage. Although I am considering grabbing mods that suit them better once my suit is filled out and finding them some cheap moddable gear.

Actually, I can craft some decent gear for Asahara and Khem and a buddy of mine is an armormech so he can craft some gear for Talos and Andronikos. Whatever I cast off will go to Xalek.
