Usually, people in Customer Service are relieved enough to have a well-constructed letter/interaction, as opposed to dealing with the blind rage of unhappy, unintelligible people.

Throw in a silly picture, and you just might brighten someone's day.

Though when describing your characters, I used the word "including" twice. I'd change one of those instances; I don't like how it reads, going back over it.

Thanks!

Also, I love my OCD. Just deleted a level 18 Sith Warrior and trained another back up to 16 before deleting that one as well. Wish I could see how the Sith Corruption altered the skin color at Dark Side 2. Need a color light enough that I won't look like I'm Middle-eastern once I hit DS2, but also dark enough that I won't look like a ghost at DS4.

I deleted a level 40 Juggernaut because I decided I wanted to use that character name on a Marauder of a different race. Smiley: lol Of course, the race I wanted is Rattataki, so I couldn't actually do that. Now I have to level that race to 50 or save the credits to unlock it, so I just made a character to place-hold the name.

Ouch. Don't think I could've done that.

I'll be deleting my Assassin soon to free up the name, but he's only 31.

I'd level it to unlock your Legacy, at least.

Rewritten after beating a wall to death.

It's a ridiculous criteria that you need a level 50 character. It's discriminating and stupid, and whoever came up with it needs to know this. A lot of players, myself included, has played this game since launch, or close to launch. A lot of us don't have a level 50, but have stood by the game while people were jumping ship due to lack of end-game content. Because of this, we weren't in a rush to hit end-game and instead focused on leveling up multiple characters.

Instead of taking one character to level 50, I've taken a dozen (seriously, two servers full) to level 20+. Due to a population drop and lack of paid character transfers, I've had to restart on a more populated server after hitting level 25+ on four characters.

The issue here is that BioWare is handing out a monetary reward based on a stupid criteria. They're basically saying that those with a level 50 character are the "valued players" while those with a dozen level 49's aren't.

BioWare wrote:
As a thanks for being one of our most valued players, every active account with a Level 50 character as of April 12th, 2012 at 12:00PM CDT / 5:00PM GMT, will receive thirty (30) days of game time in appreciation for your support and loyalty.

It's discriminating and insulting. I could level a character to 50 in a week if I just spacebar-spammed my way through the content, but how the hell does that make me worth more than the guy who watched all the cutscenes, did all the bonus missions, flashpoints and stuff along the way? If anything, the valued player should be the guy who took the time to experience (and appreciate) the content.

Stupid criteria. Stupid reward. Free game time should be reserved for when BioWare needs to compensate for prolonged downtime, and then everyone should be entitled to the gift.

Thats exactly where I am at. I have a sage that got to 43 and I got sick of it and rolled some other classes and experimented with it. This snuffs out my desire to come back to the game..

Did you just not read the rest of the thread where they expanded the free 30 days to include those players with a Legacy of level 6 or higher?

And if you weren't subscribed to the game, the promotion had nothing to do with you anyway. Your promotion was getting a free week of game time next week.

30 days if you're good at pressing spacebar. 30 days if you unlocked Legacy before leveling alts. 7 days if you don't even play the game anymore.

I'm feeling sort of neglected now. Maybe I'll send that mail after all...

Worst they can do is say "no, sorry". I'd just make sure to drag/drop the picture in there instead of just linking to it.

Edit: Though, looking at their site, it doesn't seem like there's an email address to contact, just the "contact by email" form. But absolutely keep the link in there. Seriously.

I think they blew the PR for attracting returning players. I haven't played DDO in ages but they send me blurbs. I'm pretty sure Blizzard emailed me about the annual pass. I would think a mass email with the title "free week to see what's changed since you left" would have been a good idea for them to send out.

Eh, at least I found out before it was over.

I know I got emails about it.

It IS odd that they wouldn't have. It's not like they are trying to hide the 7-day thing. They WANT players to come back and see the reasons to re-sub.

I thought I had, but maybe not.

Anyway, I did some poking around, and I think I mainly needed some time away and it might be worth futzing around for another month.. One problem though: the loadtime bug. I still have the issue where about 30% of the way through loading it'll just hang for 1-5 minutes, varying depending on planet/instance size. Has anyone figured out a fix for this yet? With the amount of running around it gets rather tedious, especially if I want to PvP or do ship battles. The random splash screens (I assume loading textures but it's still letting me run around) and times when you port to the fleet but everything's black for a while are annoying too, but that's the big one.

To save time for folks who haven't heard of it and try to diagnose, it's affected a lot of people (hard to have a percentage due to response bias on forums) and it's annoyingly system-agnostic. Low-end, high-end, normal drives, SSDs, windowed mode, fullscreen, let it load, tab out to a browser, when I left nobody was able to figure out what our systems had in common that we had troubles where others didn't.

I didn't use to have those issues, but have since developed them. I've just gotten used to it--alt-tab to something else, usually. Don't know how long ago it started.

That worst I'll have tends to be Hoth or Belsavis. Don't know why, but it's never taken me more than a minute to load in to either of those planets, and other places, even the Fleet at peak times, tends to be <30 seconds. Maybe it's a RAM issue? Some kind of memory dump?

Don't think I've ever paid attention to relativistic load times. Also don't think I've ever had a load take over a minute. 30-45 seconds sounds about right. Enough time that doing nothing is irritating, but not long enough to do something else substantial.

I tend to get the slowest load times when loading/zoning in on Dromund Kaas. Usually because it's raining. Still, we're talking 15-20 seconds of loading, so it's nothing criminal. Several minutes each load would kill me. And slowly.

What components are you using, sel?

Vista
Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz
4 Gigs of RAM
NVidia GeForce GTX 465

As I said though, this has been happening to folks with varied systems. Some people with over 10G of RAM and a SSD hard drive are having similar load time issues.

EDIT: decided to do some tests. Loading Tatooine from ship.
Windowed, tabbed to Chrome: 3 minutes
Windowed, don't tab out: 3 minutes
Windowed, Chrome closed (it runs shoddy during load screens, test if it and SWTOR are fighting or if TOR's just a resource hog), tab to another resource: 2 minutes 30 seconds (switched to watch rather than in-game clock, so previous accuracy was plus or minus a minute)
Windowed, Chrome closed, don't tab: 2 minutes 45 seconds
Fullscreen, don't tab out: 2 minutes 30 seconds
Fullscreen, tab to Chrome: Doesn't like me doing that, keeps focus on TOR
Windowed, tab to Chrome, minimum graphics settings: 3m15s

It's odd if it's occurring randomly. Logically speaking, there'd have to be a common denominator, right?

Some guy in general chat who was apparently tech savvy, or thought he was at least, said that it's because the game's engine renders the areas super fast, but then has to contact the server to populate them, during which it will bring you that lovely loading screen. Doesn't matter if the area is heavily populated or not, the contacting of the server is the issue.

That would explain why it's happening on all kinds of rigs. Doesn't explain why it isn't happening to everyone on the same server, though. Smiley: um

I could see that for the random load-screens when using an elevator. Not for the inter-zone loadscreen hanging on various rigs. If it were all low-end systems I'd say that's some point in the load process where it's actually working hard but doesn't move the loading bar. As-is though, I'd have to poke around a bit more than I instinctively know how to to tell if it's actually freezing or thinking hard, and either way it's not a "get more RAM" kind of solution given the spread of systems. I'm sure there IS some common denominator since we all hang at the same place in the loadbar, it's just not an obvious one. The Bioware response I found was "To the current state I can not provide you with information about the status of our optimization level. But I want to assure you, we are working on it." Given the nature of the issue I can't really say I expected anything else (they can't really dissect their engine details in the forum even if the CS guy who said that has the knowledge to do so), it's just frustrating not to know whether it's "this is the problem, we're working on a fix" or "we're as stumped as you are, but we can confirm you're not crazy" with no ETA.

And yeah, it just kills the momentum of the game. Warzones are managable if I'm on my ship but otherwise if I requeue the bar's gone by the time my screen shows up. It also compounds the "deserter boot before you can pass the barrier" bug, but I don't know if they've fixed that elsewhere.

Nah, I decided to drop the issue. I'm hoping I'll get my shot at appreciation in a future promotional offer.

If I had been able to attach the Vader picture, I definitely would have, but I was forced to use the in-game report thing, which does not allow embedding of pictures. Smiley: frown

So my account ran out last night, and I'm just not in a position atm where I'm going to drop $15, which is like a quarter of my budget for the next month. We'll see if I still get the free month (which I imagine I will, because they sent me an email telling me such).

If I don't, I'll probably contact Customer Service. If they give me the free month, nifty. If not, no big deal--I just won't play for the next month or two. God knows my stack of unplayed/unread games and books has gotten big enough.

I've been looking around, and they've added a clarification post.

If your billing period ended before the promotion was awarded on the extended date*, and you were billed for the next period, it will be added to that.

If your billing period ended before the promotion was awarded on the extended date*, and your subscription ends, your 30 days will be awarded then but you will be unable to log in before it's credited.

If your billing period ends after the promotion is awarded on the the extended date*, you will not be billed until 30 days after that date.

*The extended date is by April 25, 2012, 11:59 PM CST / April 26, 2012, 4:59AM GMT

Tauntauns should be mailed out by the same point.

Not just level fifty, but legacy level 6 qualifies you as well. Which is easily attainable with a pair or trio of characters that are nowhere near level 50.
