Long story short, I am pretty new to rift(2 weeks) and my wife tried it and really wants to play, but, the catch is, she doesn't want to join guilds on her first character so just the two of us and just duo'ing to 50 and doing rifts together until she gets the hang of it. Now, she is going to be 'tanking' for us, as she likes killing stuff(it's why i married her i so i will be the support/heals/aoe character keeping her alive and helping kill when more than 1 mob comes a calling. For her, I was thinking a semi-self heal Reaver/Riftblade since it has good ST and AOE damage, plus easy to use which is really IMPORTANT for my wife's 1st character(1 or 2 macros and she's good to go) similar to this build

Now, for me, i need help, i am lost. I was thinking something with heavy Chloro, or a ranged Cleric build...but i really need some recommendations? Chloro seems easier as the heals are based around my and her doing damage, but i don't know what to pair it with. But a cleric seems like it would do well too, as they do have some nice AOE stuff.

So....can someone help my wife and I out and get us off to a good start?? Please and thanky~

If you plan on just doing some 2 player healing and still want to be able to toss out some dps i would suggest going rouge (bard/sab/ranger) and using the bard for healing when she gets rocked. Sab was amazing AOE and single target dps. Also has a little CC and GREAT buffs. Here is a quick build that will give you a starting point for ideas.

Thanks for the idea, i would NEVER have thought about trying a Bard build, i know absolutely zero about the Rogue class, but this build looks like it might be fun. I do have a question though, what stats should i aim for? Dex or Int?

dex dex dex never use anything with wisdom or intelligence as a rogue. Don't confuse bard with a "caster" your healing is based on your attack power. The only gear you will ever have that resembles traditional "healing" gear would be a healing trinket or planar essences

Def go: dex>attack power>crit>stam>everything else.

Bard is not your typical "caster" as all the healing power is based on attack power which is derived from dex for the rogue. Most of the benefits are in the buffing as the healing is a little low (cadence mostly) and no rez till 36 points in. But you do get alot of armor/speed/crit/attack power/ect buffs that are nice and if you partner with the sab soul its a blast to play. Rolled one up not to long ago and i love the chargex5 then detonate! The sound is great and tossing traps/bombs never fails to make me chuckle. In the end it comes down to playing what makes playing fun.

O.. kinda same thing for your wife. Have her try this build and i bet she gets a kick out of it. You can macro everything but that makes it boring. This is a button masher and makes tanking fun for me. Lots of situational action clicklies from blocking and battle calls for cool self/partry buffs. Shield bashing and blocking will also help the self return from the reaver dots allowing you to focus on bombing and attaching charges so you dont have to spam cadence so often.

We tried this tonight. I went with the Bard/sab and i gave my wife the choice of what to make, warrior with some self heals(think it was a Paladin/Champion build) and good damage or a cleric tank with some AoE and she decided to go for a cleric tank, i think it was a heavy 51just/inq mix that just won't die. We got up to 12 tonight and i have to say i am having fun with the bard...a pretty da@m busy class it is. But the wife is really finding her cleric lackluster. It tanks really well as the thing just won't die no matter how many mobs we threw at it, we a duo'ing every Rift we come across with +/- 2 or 3 levels of us with no problems at all, but her damage is absolutely abysmal~ I hear her moaning a lot about no AOE threat generation, not much damage no AoE abilities....I feel a little bad for her choice as I am loving the Bard.

In all honesty.. cleric tanking isnt that impressive. I have been trying to find a build that works and is fun and ive come up with notta (except massive survivability). There isnt a way to create threat and lets face it.. the armor numbers and mitigation dont add up to anything worth while. They are however the best healers in the game without question. All that being said, you want to swap roles for a bit. Rogues are the best mitigation tanks out there (dodge/parry are massive!) and still toss out a lot of damage (even AOE). That way you can tank while she tosses some heals and DOTs as thats all ive found for even cleric dps anyways.

Here is a rogue tank build im going to try when i get time next week (assuming i get time to play). Let me know if you do give it a whirl and how it handles.

One of the cleric builds that I've been meaning to try out is the "Duracell", which is supposed to be fabulous for solo AOE grinding and support role for experts. It may be a bit underpowered at low levels before you get Strike of the Maelstrom and Vengeful Justice 3/3, but it should compliment a bard fairly well.

I think, Riftstalker and Chloro is better coordination for closing rift and hunting monsters. It is the most good bulid which is good on tanking-healing and evenly on dps. Cleric and Warrior is too classic to play. It's boring

Figured i would let you guys.gals know how it was going, since you have all been pretty helpful. We played a Bard + Cleric tank up to 20.My wife hated the cleric tank with a passion. So she went warrior(the pally/warlord build you guys recommended). She liked it a lot as it did some good damage and she seemed to be having a lot of fun laying into everything she could see, but that caused us a big problem because the Bard has crap for heals so my wife was taking some good beatings. I already had a mage that was 25, so I switched to that as a chloro/lock while questing and stormcaller/pyro while doing rifts. It is working out pretty well, my wife likes the warrior build and the chloro has enough healing to keep us up while questing and for the rifts, my wife just collects everything while i burn them down with the stormcaller. I have to say, for ease of use, the chloro + warrior works well.
Also, i am trying the rogue build myself as a solo treat, and at 25,i just changed from ranged into the RS/BD/sab build and it is pretty fun. If i was to do it all over again, i think i would go with the Rogue + a chloroLock(or some hybrid cabalist/justicar/warden build for heals)to level up. It seems like it works well so far. Who'da thunk it that rogues can take such a beating and still keep on goin'.

my personal opinion. get her into tanking with a rogue.. they have the higest tanking dps.. from what i remember. but if you want to heal and do damage.. i would definatly role. cleric and look into ica/cabicar. i use cabicar and my aoe dps is over 3k.
with 1k hps. in a big aoe situation.
pretty sure a bard/rangerspec cant do that. st hps/dps is lower but dps is over 900. hps is around 500-600.. only thing with the cabicar. you need the synergy crystal. for the max healing ability it has (justicar crystal) and it doesnt have a cleanse in the build.
