Cleric tanks get spots in raids?Follow

Do cleric tanks get spots in end game pve?

It bothers me since I love to tank but hate meele dpsing. So warrior is not my choise. In wow I played dru tank/range and was absolutly happy about it.

I would love to do the same in Rift. Clerics look like perfect choise, but it's interesting to know if they are taken to raids as tanks and can accualy perform as good as then warrior / rogue tanks? Or it will be like in many other games "if we have paladin and warrior tanks, we will always take paladin coz he s better as class".

I don't want to be overly discouraging, but I'll give you an honest assessment.

I'm not up to date on the current state of the cleric tank after patch 1.3. I can tell you that before the patch they were subpar, doable but subpar. My guild did our first few attempts at Lord Greenscale with a cleric tank, and I was main healing and just barely kept him up through the breaths. Once we switched to a warrior tank, I was barely needed for breaths. If the rest of the raid had their act together at the time, we could have downed GS with our cleric tank (he was never responsible for the wipes).

Additionally, last I knew ranged Cleric dps wasn't as good as melee cleric dps.

If you're looking for ranged DPS and tanking, then you might want to consider Rogue. I know that before 1.3 they were the second best tank, and highly viable. In fact, at undercharged levels rogue tanks were better than warrior tanks for Lord Greenscale (though as gear got better Warriors became the better tanks). Range DPS would certainly be another option you could pursue with one of their many ranged trees.

I'm not saying cleric is a bad idea for what you want to do, but you may have to be a little patient for the Rift team to make their way over to improving them. They're viable now, but certainly not top dog for tanking.
