Ranger or Necro cant decide Follow

I have always liked pet classes. Main was a Mage in EQ for 7 years and then a Demo Lock in WoW for 4. Also played a Bonedancer in DAoC. Out of ranger and necro which one has the better pet and also which is faster to level. I already have one level 50, which is a cleric, I use to heal with so wanted to make a DPS alt. Also being able to farm at level 50 to earn some plat would be a plus.
