Simple question really.

For melee classes...or any class really, how important is your chance to hit for your DPS?

I ask because I am debating a 3rd soul for my Riftblade and my debate brings me to 3 different souls. The first 2 souls are Riftblade (duh) and Champion and the options for my third are Reaver for the zero point DoT ability they get, Soul Sickness, Paladin for the 2nd tier talent that increases the damage of 1H weapons as I plan to DW with my Riftblade and be in the mobs face most of the time and the third is Beastmaster for the talent that increases chance to hit.

Any input or feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

imo +hit is more important than +crit since crits are only 150% damage in this game.

For a 2H build or sword/board i have only been concerned with +5% because Im guessing that is the miss rate for same level mobs. Im sure DW has an inherently higher missrate but dont know the numbers on this at all.

Overall though I would say without a doubt that hitrate up to the cap is a very important stat.

Under the hitcap, 1% hit = 1% dps
1% crit = 0.5% dps

The cool thing about Riftblade though is that in the 3rd tier of talents there is one called Static Shock, that when fully talented (which I intend to do because the 51 point RB ability is awesome) gives a 100% chance to do half of your weapon damage if you miss or are dodged or parried.

Half weapon damage is not the same as a full on hit though, but it still means that any missed attack will still do some damage and given that the majority of a RB's damage comes from magic damage and not physical damage...but after reviewing the abilites, the highest level ability is a "weapon damage + x" ability so a higher hit percentage would still seem to be the most important thing....

Looks like Beastmaster it is! and I get a full time, living, DoT I don't have to cast for at least a little while, while it's still viable anyway....

I've looked and only found other forums that discuss which weapon choices work the best, DW, 2H or S+B.

The only conclusion I've seen is that there really isn't one...aside from the obvious that S+B gives more survivability and is therefore preferred by some for soloing but also superior for PvP.

DW and 2H even out theoretically due to 2H hitting harder but DW hitting more often.

Nothing concrete yet to say either weapon choice is superior as far as DPS is concerned.

Either way, I've decided that my 3 souls are going to be RB, Champion, BM with the following build for DW:

http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0ckLm.E.EGspdsrGtdz.V

and if 2H ever becomes clearly superior, this build:

http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0ckLm.VV.EGspdsrGtdz.V

I might tweak it a little, but only within the Champion tree.

Thoughts?

While I'm not sure the same is true for every build, but I do remember seeing one parse for a rogue where less than 10% of his damage was white damage. This would make sense because weapons receive no bonus from attack power.

yeah i really dont see how a DW non-paragon warrior would do as much damage as a 2Hander. Just doesnt work that way.

I looked up the patch notes and did find that there is one in there that says auto-attacks don't benefit from attack power, but they buffed the baseline damage of all weapons at the same time.

In either case...it looks like my Riftblade is either going to change to Paragon to be a DW DPS or stay RB and go 2H....ah decisions decisions....

Thanks for the input.
