Im reading through all of these threads and looking online for assassin builds and what people have come up with and I'm noticing assassin isn't on any of your lists as far as it being a primary or next to primary soul. What gives? I need to hear your thoughts and opinions about this soul. I specced it in beta, enjoyed it, and now I want to take it into the live game but now I'm having doubts. From what I've noticed, if specced properly and with supporting souls, they can do a great deal of damage....am i wrong?
Your not wrong. I think its an underrated soul atm because it lacks some of the burst that Nightblade has but its really not that far behind. It's just slightly more complicated to play but still solid imo. Many QQ's will disagree on the Oforums but its because they want to play it exactly like their WoW rogue and its a whole different beast.

Sin isn't that good, untill level 50 then they really start to shine. If you want to play sneeky bastard go sin, if you want burst damage go nightblade :)

Not that good until 50? What an ignorant statement. You either haven't played the spec, don't know how to spec it or don't know how to play it. An assasin spec is burst dps at its finest when speced and played correctly. Ive played it for 40 levels there were weak levels in the first 10-20 levels but after that it just gets better and better. At level 40 I seriously doubt there is a better single target dps build than assasin builds for burst dps. This is why Rift needs a dps meter so that people can back up arguments like this with hard numbers.
assassin does have nice burst dps but they have to be behind always. soloing you wont see do well as an assassin. in pvp? you better hope you kill em fast.

You're very mistaken. An assassin with bladedancer secondary soul can do excellent damage even when they're not behind.

Asn + RS is what you need.
Being able to maintain +15% crit (+5 more with the asn tree) almost 100% of the time in the mid-20s range is key.
You can do a LOT of damage with rs-asn as a leveling spec, plus you get heal-on-kill and rift barrier from rs for larger and longer fights.
RS may be half of the main rogue tanking spec, but it has insane damage output when you pair it with asn's crit based stuff.
