I have always been a fan of the Nature type classes, Mostly loving the Nature Nukers, like Everquest druids or Fury's in EQ2.

While the rift druid is a melee pet class i am still very interested in it.. and i look over their builds.. mix it with shaman or other various things like that and try to determine why would i even be this? what role does the druid hold? what will i do in pvp? will i make a difference? in raids am i just going to be that fluff hybrid that no one wants? i wanted to see if anyone could help maybe open my eyes to this soul as a soul to actually put 20+ points in to.. thanks for any input.

There are quite a few changes being made in Beta 7 to Druids, Shamans, and Justicars; so their role may have shifted slightly.

Druids offer DPS and minor support. Your DPS should be less than that of a Shaman, but I can't say how you will compare to other DPS classes. I know that Shamans significantly changed from being one of the highest melee DPS in the game in Beta 5 to being fairly subpar in Beta 6.

Druid abilities seem to be geared toward raid support and debuffing. They can reduce the healing an opponent receives, increase the cost of enemy abilities, and reduce enemy offensive stats.

How effective and desirable they will be in a group, I don't know.
