People ask what soul setup they are going to choose but what about type? there's still a lot of speculation on what each individual soul would do, but what type of soul setup will you focus on?

What play Type soul will you pick?
Ranged DPS:76 (27.1%)
Melee DPS :69 (24.6%)
Support (Buff/Debuff) :20 (7.1%)
Crowd Control/PvP :12 (4.3%)
Tank :49 (17.5%)
Heals:54 (19.3%)
Total:280

Normally this is an easy type of poll. But with Rift, all souls look incredible. However, I will be focusing on Heals, no doubt. I want to be a healer that throws out those huge large meaty heals. Ones that make people oooh and ahhh like its the fourth of July. Maybe sprinkle a little healer dps and buffage, and thats my guy :) But once I am satisfied with where that character is at I will be rolling a ranged dps.

FFXI's Corsair is still he funnest character class I've played. I loved their blend of decent damage, great group support skills, and fantastic wardrobe. I really am hoping I can make a pseudo Corsair in Rift as a Marksmen/Bard.

Most likely start with a Range DPS as in Mage/Spellcaster class. I've played those class mainly but are willing to try new ones as well.

Depending on the soul trees not sure yet...TBD!!

I really want to try a few things, maybe if I play the beta, my wife might get interested in the game and actually want to play with me once it comes out... That would be one of the best things in the world..a compromise

The justicar looks like a provocative calling. I love the direct combat, indirect support aspect of the class. Other than that, Blade Dancer looks like a good back-up too. I'm kind of suprised there isn't a "monk" like character. A calling that has natural protections and minor buffs but uses hand to hand combat.

I don't know enough to give my full opinion on the classes, but I know without even being in beta that I'll be playing a healer of some sort. The purer the better too. I've been healing in various MMOs for around a decade now and it's just what I'm best at/most comfortable with. ^_^ A secondary option would be a bard class of some sort or a burst dmg caster dps.

focusing on a specific soul combo will really be difficult begore getting really accustomed with the game since there are so many combinations, but from what i have seen so far riftblade/champion combo is preety sweet

I am probably going mage dps just because I've been playing mostly melee dps the last couple of games and I want to try something else for a change. So it'll probably be a warlock/pyro/archon.

My main will more than likely be heals. I've always had a main healer then one dps/damage class.

Tank all the way. Granted, sometimes I get bored with that and enjoy me some good rogue/assassin action, lol. Guess I'll decide if/when I get to play the beta.

I think i'd give tanking more of a spin if I get back in. Then, assuming time allowed, I might give mage a go, or maybe cleric.

What I love is that you dont have to pidgeonhole yourself. You can have multiple specs and roles all within the same toon without rerolling.

Surprise surprise, ranged dps is the majority of poll responses.
I'm very excited to see how many people actually play support / heal roles now with the ability to change your class entirely at cap.

Ive always played melee dps , but with so much versatility and variations i may try a few different types , healer caster dps, tank ect. ill prolly spend hours mixing and matching different souls to try and make unique character traits , it all sounds too good to be true, someone pinch me? lmao

I was having a blast with my Warlock/Necro.

Can't wait for beta3,as according to the official site(under beta schedule), the beta3 event will be level 1-20 for BOTH sides which means PvP:)

After hearing a friend of mine talk about the cleric soul Justicar, and it's amazing tanking abilities, I'll most likely play this. Why I would take it over a warrior tank? Since I like the option that I can switch to a healer if needed, so I can cover two roles in parties if needed.

I'm definitely only rolling a melee DPS focus at launch. I'll stick with whatever focus doesn't play like:12345-FINISH repeat.

I will focus on complete knowledge of the game, obviously!

^_^ nah kidding, actually it depends on what my bros want to play! I've rarely played tanks in other mmos, so i will probably try this. I've mastered healers everywhere, and i think i'll skip being priest for once.

But the class i tried during beta was ranger/sharpshooter (upped almost only ranger) and i must admit it was sweet, but it is probably more for solo leveling purposes. If you manage to control your pet decently, he can easily tank 2 mobs with a low energy cost HoT, while you tank/kite another and shooting death with your bow/shotgun. (Obviously shotgun for me, as i was playing a dwarf. C'mon, a dwarf with a bow?)

Yikes I gotten to play this game some we will definitely know the value of crowd control hehe.... If the poll is any indication they will be in demand... I like Reaver/Pally so far....ultimate tankage imo ... well from what I have played seems like a epic combination...

Maybe viable as an offtank I have been beat on by mobs in the first instance the healers without cc can barely keep the Reaver up... Besides that you have 3 to 4 mob pulls some of which hit like a truck not to mention trying to tank 3 boss at once not going to go like you would think.. I was being spammed healed with no one else having aggro and still healer struggled... So it will make you a good off tank and a back-up healer at best..(depending on how you spend points of course) Its a cool thought but even if you can pull it off early on chances are.. tanks "as they should" will be the only way to role endgame... I am not against hybirds but I just don't think that is going to role the way your thinking it will.. Group make up in this game is key to success in a dungeon.. This isn't a flame either everyone should play what they enjoy... Now if you went all heals once spec and all tank the other and bounced between them that would go either way but I still "think" if you want to tank endgame roll warrior type

I think a warlock/necro sould combo would be pretty awesome, Ive been playing a warlock in eq2 lately and this class combo would seem to suit me very nicely, now all i need is a vip key so i can start testing this soulcombo.

I am thinking melee and ranged, and healer that can heal, with a soul to dps would be cool too. So this combo will be my 1st 2 toons.

I voted Heals as that's my preferred role.

I made a chloromancer in Rift beta event 3 and it was so much fun because I could be a healer/dps at last :D
Now I do hope it will still be possible at higher levels but I very much like the versatility it gave me.

At first i went DPS with a Mage elementalist/stormcaller/pyromancer as my favorite toon in eq is a wiz...then i tried a Rogue resisting my bubble and trying something new with riftstalker/ranja/sabatour and absolutly loved it tick tick tick tick tick BOOM! Pet died ACK *poof* now you see me now you dont! HA! BOOM!

But that cleric obsession is my true calling...its like something just takes over my free will! A druid/justicar/inquisitor was reborn and i posessed her souls. But i want to try replacing the justicar with purifier and see what this combo can do. Her pets name was Bitty

druid/warden/justicar for some cleric face poundage but like everyone else i'm gonna do a lot of playing around with the classes and callings when i get a chance

I played around with the soul trees, and i think ive found a cool combo with paladin/beastmaster, its too late for me to sign for 5th beta but maybe if a 6th beta comes, ill def try that out, i focused the threat and tanking abilities of the pally soul tree while emphasizing on increasing my pet's damage output from the beastmaster tree.

Tell what you all think bout it :D

I like this build because you can planer shift behind your target or charge it, stun, disarm, interrupt, reduce target movement speed is by 50%, increase your Dodge chance by 50%, increase your Armor Value by 30%, incapacitate the enemy for 45 seconds, reduce the Attack Power and Spell Power to 10 near by enemies by 7 for 15 seconds, stun, sprint, shift forward, decease dmg you take by 80%, and a few other things that increase your ap, crit, dodge, im sure im missing some lol. I tried this build, well some of it in beta and loved it. let me know what you guys think. Oh and if you dont know you can shift in stealth mode.

http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0MpVi.Vcbco.tMdVzsRR0dz.V0tMG0Mo

And I also did a crazy build i call "shift behind target and crit yourself silly, then get the heck out of dodge".

I played an Enchanter in EQ1 from 1999-2006. When I left for WoW, I couldn't believe how much I missed the role of massive CC. I have been waiting for a game like this - with a class like this for 5+ years now.

I will without a doubt be playing a Dominator as main soul. Perhaps Chloro/Pyro with it.
