Question about the item databaseFollow

First, I would like to qualify this comment by saying that I really enjoy what Zam has provided to the Rift community. The soul builder, quest database, and other facets of the site are very well done and I use this site almost exclusively as it relates to my Rift needs.

That said, the one (simple) thing that I think would really bring a lot of usability and functionality to this site is to be able to add weights to stats on items that you're filtering for. The best example that I've seen of this would be at Magelo. Here is a sample link to a search for Planar Essences that have the desired weights I'm looking for.

http://rift.magelo.com/en/items?s=26&x=3&w=14_1|15_.25|6_.5|5_.75

To be able to sort and filter essences (or any other item for that matter) based on a variety of calculated stats is not very easy the way that Zam's filtering is currently set up.

Anyway, this is something that is very simple, in concept at least, and would help your users get even more benefit from your site.

Thank you,
Proph

On the item search page here: http://rift.zam.com/en/itemlist.html?1
The last filter is "Stat" followed by ">= " and a numeric field. Pick a stat, add the lowest value you're looking for. Click the little "...and" to add more.

Is that what you're looking for?

Hi Calthine,
Thanks for the response. That's not quite what I'm looking for though. I'm looking for the ability to add weights to the stats so that you can (I hesitate to use the word) "score" the gear according to what you're looking for. If you follow the link to Magelo you can see that I scored spell power as 1, spell crit as .25, intelligence as .75 (gives you .5 spell power and 1 crit), and wisdom as .5 (gives you .5 spell power). You then get a list back of items that are ranked (sorted) based on your weights. This lets you quickly assess the best piece of gear for the slot in question in the context of the weights you've provided. This is very handy in telling me that this item is overall better than that item for a certain slot.

The main reason that this is so handy is because you cannot simply ask for the item with the most spell power since spell power is also given by intelligence and wisdom. If you did this then it would be entirely possible that you would be shown items that have less overall spell power but more explicit spell power.

For example:

Item 1:
Intelligence +10
Wisdom +10
Spell Power +20

Item 2:
Intelligence +20
Wisdom +20
Spell Power +12

The second item has more spell power and would be better in the slot but the first item would show up more readily in your database if someone was searching for spell power.

I will pass your request up to the Coder-Types-Who-Are-Smarter-Than-Me. (My programming is laughable at best, lol)

It's more a matter of making sure that, when you have millions of rows and a whole bunch of traffic, you don't slow everything down by doing calculations wrong :P :)

http://rift.zam.com/en/itemlist.html?slot=essence&orderby=calcline&stat1=spellpower&statval1=1&stat2=intelligence&statval2=1&stat3=wisdom&statval3=1&stat4=spellcriticalhit&statval4=1

Try that.

Basically, choose 'Stats Weighted' from the Order By dropdown, then enter the stats in order of importance.

It takes care of most shenanagins on the back-end (The way the data is, I already have to sum some fields or branch to make search work the way people expect).

EDIT: This also means that each of those stats must at least be 1, so items without those stats are excluded.
