So it looks like it did end up being released (or, will be released) despite the bit about the "AO" rating. Dev was handing out Steam Keys (plus additional copies, apparently) to people who preordered through their website.

And, of course, the community has put a bunch of joke tags on it. Including "Cute", "Dating Sim", and the ever popular "Female Protagonist".

Time to keep an eye out for some reviews. Promised myself I'd buy it at near-full price if it was actually good.

I'm sure it won't be. At last, nothing I've seen in the trailer made me think that it would be good.

I don't have an issue with it being released, and on Steam, and maybe more AO games with better quality will come along.

The tags say it's a dual stick shooter. I assume that means it's like other top down shooters where one stick controls 360 degree movement and the other stick controls 360 degree aiming.

I'm not a huge fan of that control setup. It's easy to use, but it's juts not exactly a favorite of mine.

I haven't seen anything other than the trailers though, so it could be another tag that is wrong. But for a game like this, it seems like that would be the easiest control scheme.

Edit:
If it has destructible environments, a score system, etc. I could see it being fun. "How much **** can you blow up and destroy." Kind of like the burnout games (was it burnout? I thought it was burnout) where you aim to cause as much damage as you can with your vehicle in a certain environment. I played those on the Playstation (or was it Playstation 2?) when I was in high school all the time.

Twin Sticks can be fun; I liked Nation Red for instance. Though they're usually a "play a few rounds" game for me than a "power through this campaign". The trailers show all sorts of closeups which, again, is something you CAN do in Nation Red (zoom in your camera really close) but you never actually WOULD while playing the game since you need to see what's going on around you. Anyway, if I get it it'll be because it was bundled and not because I paid $17.99 for it (says 16 euros in trailer).

I wonder if the addition of this "AO" game on Steam will begin to open the doors to other AO games? And with the growing popularity of the dating sim games, will they no longer have to hide their "dirty" versions behind patches?

Selling a bunch of copies of this one probably couldn't hurt the chances of that. Smiley: tongue

I'm only considering buying the full price version out of spite. I refuse to buy a game that isn't good(unless it's bundled with one that is), but I might buy a good game for more than I normally would have paid for it to spite certain people who wanted it banned.

Looks like another one of those "mature" games that markets directly to juvenile, pimple-covered shitstains who are old enough to vote but not old enough to realize how immature a game about dressing up like The Crow and committing mass murder really is.

So, y'know, nothing new under the sun.

Maybe. But then are there a whole lot of AO games you've been wishing to play on Steam? The only AO game I can think of off hand is Manhunt 2.

Edit: Also Seduce Me which was taken off Greenlight due to its AO rating.

Seduce Me is an erotic strategy game.
That sounded really cool until I checked further and realized that it didn't have the armies of succubi vs. scantily clad angel women vs. space babe pirates RTS or Turn-Based action that I first imagined it would have.

Not really. I can't think of any games that would get an AO rating that wouldn't be because of something really sexual. And comical puzzle-dating sims aside, I'm not really that interested in sex games. The violent games that are out already without AO ratings that cover pretty much all types of violence.

I really don't see why Hatred got an AO rating anyway, when compared to games with similar content, can only assume it due to the hype about the content.

Probably because the game revolves around the graphic killing of civilians. Some games allow you to kill civilians but either penalize you for it or at least don't overtly reward you but this game's whole story is the mass slaughter of regular people.

This might open the doors to more AO games but that's really an indie niche where I think the goal is just to say "We made an AO rated game". Most people want their games to make money and an AO rating disqualifies you from publishing on any of the major consoles or from most physical retail shops carrying your product.

The only thing really note-worthy so far about Hatred is how some people have reacted to it.
