I don't think I ever truly, physically, face palmed before but some of the names in this game are godawful. Amnesiac named Ringabel. Really? Only up to the first temple, but I think trends like that are going to be a constant bother.

Yeah, that trend will continue the entire game.

I just met a Commander Goodman, leader of the Shieldbearers. There's another character named Praline a la Mode.

I know I'm supposed to feel bad for Tiz and Agnès because bad stuff happened to them, but really I couldn't care less. They're just not that interesting.

I feel way more sad for Edea as I travel around the world killing all of her friends and colleagues. To me Edea feels more real while Agnès and Tiz feel kind of scripted.

Agnes is the worst. Edea is awesome.

Tiz is okay. He has his moments, and he's never annoying me (unlike Agnes). Ringabel is boring/annoying, but he also has his moments (like a random little moment where he bothers to point out the subjectivity of morality and how that motivates people, when Agnes is all THEY ARE ALL EVIL).

I'm just really hoping Agnes dies.

Every Agnes says "unacceptable" I hear it in the Lemongrab voice.

I really need to pick this up. Well what I really need to do is to add 5 bucks to my 3DS so I can download it.

I can't bring myself to download games. Too little space, too annoying if I lose the 3DS.

It's weird.

I felt like I've heard Agnes's voice actress before in Lunar, so I went looking her up.

Turns out it's more in the realm of I HAVE heard her before, but in everything else but Lunar. I guess some girls just really sound the same to me.

Eh, I have a fairly large SD card... it's nowhere near capacity (66,278 blocks open - Pokemon Y, my largest DL is 13,799 blocks, next biggest is animal crossing at 6000... so that's a lot more full sized games I can DL) and I have 6 3DS games on it and about 20 virtual console games on it. I wasn't into the idea of downloads but they have started having half decent sales on titles and I got sick of having to carry carts around - I was finding that a lot more inconvenient. Also, it's easier to lose a cart than a 3DS - and I have a chance of being able to get my games (since they are linked to a nintendo ID with password etc) if I lose the 3DS versus zero chance if I lose a cart.

Is anyone else spending a lot of time just watching the town progress?

I'm finding myself spending a lot a time with it on sleep mode, just to open it up and see if I got another present from the adventurer. Smiley: lol

My town is complete. I pretty much just had my DS on nonstop and made sure all my villagers were doing something. Didn't get many street passes, just the normally daily update. I'm still pretty early in the game, I think. I just got the Pirate job, and still have two crystals to go.

I'm a little bit before you quest-wise on that and yeah, just net updates for me too. Town only has a few things near max and I'm playing on Hard difficulty, which is actually slowing me down a little bit (because getting a character blasted by more than his total HP kind of hurts), but I've got a lot of love for the job system and the mix and match nature of it ATM. The free battle items from taking it slow have also been EXTREMELY helpful, as I had enough on hand to blast the first crystal boss to bits very quickly. I can't remember the last time I actually made use of them in a FF-ish game. Feels like I should stockpile them some more so that if a character is more lacking on a boss, I can just have him/her toss those instead, especially if there's an elemental weakness involved. ATM I'm just trying to beef up everyone so that they can actually survive a hit when the Summoner and Ranger job bosses decide to do something.

I came in with the 20 villagers from the demo so I finished Norende before I even cleared the first crystal. Which I just did yesterday. Still early on in the game but lots of enjoyment! So many jobs I want to level... I might have to turn off normal xp gains before too long just so I can farm some JP...

I'm liking the job system, and combat is fun enough (though I hate where they put the status buff/debuff limits, since it's starting to feel really limiting with builds).

But I have to say, I'm not enjoying the actual game part. I get that there are people for whom this oldschool jrpg style is nostalgic and they don't mind it, but it's killing me. Running back and forth across a world map for a quest is just annoying. And the ambling nature in general, is just painful.

I was hoping it wouldn't be so bad as a mobile game, but it is. I'm still only like 2 bosses into Ni No Kuni because I couldn't take it.

I really do think it's nostalgia that makes this palatable. I played and enjoyed FF7 and FF8, and I've played plenty of JRPGs since them, but in general the split between people who like BD and people who don't among my friends is pretty solidly along the lines of when they first experienced classic JRPGs.

The friends who had their early gaming experiences with JRPGS? Liking it. The friends who revisited older titles like FF7 because they wanted to see what the fuss is about? Disliking it.

I should also note that difference maps inversely to who loved FFXIII and who didn't. "Raised on FF7" group hated it, people who got into gaming through other titles and only slowly made their way into JRPGs (or even just mostly played western RPGs)? Really enjoyed it.

You know, I didn't mind FF13 as a whole, I just thought it too way too friggin' long to get to a point where the combat was interesting. I get that they wanted to ease you into a new combat system but the beginning of the game just felt brutally boring, gameplay-wise. Other than that, I enjoyed the game.

Yeah, the "tutorial" phase should have finished up earlier. Particularly since paradigm shifting was the real mechanic at play, but you didn't really learn to use it until later in the game, when the roles get unlocked.

I don't mind the point where you hit Pulse, though. There's little reason to grind at all before Pulse, and if you're not grinding the path there is quite quick.

I tolerated 13. Didn't think it was nearly as bad as some of the reviews. I mean, it certainly wasn't a good game, but it certainly wasn't the worst either. Maybe a little under average. Going from 4 to 6 was my favorite era for the franchise. They weren't perfect but enjoyable as hell. 7 I played three times. The second time because I thought I got the bad ending, and the third because I was certain there had to be a better ending for all the trouble of dredging through the game.

Anyway, finally got through the fire temple. Predicting that Ringabel is Alternis somehow. Seriously, Alternis? Like, I don't know, alternate? Also Airy is evil. I considered Agnes, but the little fluttering thing seems to know too much and is pretty aggressive about the mission.

In Florem, Chapter 2. Still slow going but I think it's keeping me interested to keep playing it in small bursts. Still only have such a small number of jobs can't decide what I want to focus on. I know I'm taking Whm, Knight, and probably Merchant up to near max level asap, but after that who knows. Thief sounds like it'd be fun to level (and/or Ranger), and I know I'll be interested in Valkyrie and Ninja when I get them based on the demo.

I bought the collector's edition. It is sitting on my bed at home 9 hours away waiting for me to get home eventually...

I was tempted to buy it from the local stores this past Sunday cause I really wanted to pay, and didn't mind buying another regular copy and keeping the collectors for later. But none of the local stores had it in stock.

Yeah, that one scene did seem to suggest Ringabel could be Alternis. But that would be weird, too, since Edea is supposed to know him well? IDK.

I just realized I haven't picked BD up since before my last post in this thread, like a week ago...

The combat is fun, and I like the jobs, but I'm just so bored of the story, and there isn't really much enemy variety. A lot of the difficulty from bosses seems to be coming from cheap tricks, too. I mean, insta-kill mechanics, forcing you to play catch-up with raising/healing, aren't really interesting when it's how pretty much every boss goes...

If you don't wanna play through the whole story but wanna see the end cutscene that sets up the sequel, enter the Konami code at the start screen.

WARNING this does give away story spoilers!

I've been playing casually, and I kind of enjoy redoing all the little boss fights, sans the crystal bosses. The little differences and story bits are amusing. I've cycled through them twice now.

I still stand by my predictions.
