I've been a Kadabra fanboy for years, but I'm beginning to think of switching to a Gardevoir. Dat typing.

This is assuming I ever get the cash for a 3DS/Pokemon Y. I'm seriously considering doing some unsavory things, though...

It's never too late! The great thing is they're all standalone and all do a good job of explaining the basic mechanics as you go through the game.

My current party which is totally in flux cause I got caught in the rabbit hole of breeding is

Ledian
Quilladin
Charmeleon
Linoone (my HM *****/pickup artist -free items!-)
Tyrunt
Absol

I am probably going to swap out Absol because though I love the poke it is sort of crappy and I need a surfer for when I get surf. Sort of hoping to get something like a Seel or a Walrien to have ice/water coverage. Also I am not really committed to keeping the Ledian or the Linoone cause I know they both suck but I like them.

Also annoyed that I keep missing you guys. Can breed tyrunts as well so you can feel confident choosing the other fossil.

SO EXCITED for the evolution of tyrunt. Super T-rex looks soooo cool.

I really hate HMs. Always have, probably always will. I love the idea of having to use Pokemon to interact with the environment. But just make it so a gym leader says "Hey, lemme teach you a trick!" And from then on let any pokemon capable of cutting a plant in half use cut outside of battle. Hell, you can even make that list more restrictive. Instead of anything that sort of has claws, that is.

Then just make those moves TMs.

Surf, for instance, is a special attack. My Froakie is an attack-based water pokemon, with an attack-buffing nature and a natural bias in favor of the attack stat.

So I really don't want to waste one of his 4 move slots with a low-pp special attack move. Hence, why I always end up with a bidoof...

Seriously. Stop making field abilities take up move slots. I'm OK with needing to have a flying pokemon in the group in order to use fly, or one with claws to use cut, etc. I'm not OK with having to waste one of my party slots toting around an HM slave.

Unrelated. Try going into a pokemon center on your birthday (happy b-day to me!) You get fireworks and virtual cake.

Cut I always hated. I suppose I usually ended up teaching it to some bug, which wasn't the end of the world because that bug wouldn't stick around long in the group and cutting was thankfully rare after the one bush in the road. Why is there always one bush in the road? Smiley: rolleyes

Strength was fine, it wasn't amazing or anything, but it wasn't a bad move, and could help round out someone. Surf I was always happy to have, and got it taught to all sorts of pokemon anyway. Fly wasn't too bad; there was usually someone you could teach it to who wasn't going to learn a decent flying move on their own anyway, and there were fun ways of making use of that extra turn in combat. Flash, well just pull up a map and don't bother teaching it to anyone... Smiley: lol

Can I trade from the last Gen early? Or do you have to progress through the game like going 4>5. Not that I won't be buying the game (tomorrow I getting X) but just wondering If I can port over early?

edit
I guess it wouldn't matter Id need to get the badges to use my team pokemon anyway. Nevermind I talked myself into the answer thanks guys (it doesn't matter!).

Agreed about the HMs. Don't really want an HM slave but I'm going to have to. If the HM moves scaled it might be better, but ******* cut is worthless. Same with strength :(.

transferring pokemon is going to be done with an app on the 3DS

Free for a month then 5 dollars a year forever after.

Also - RDM friend me when you end up playing. And you guys need to be online sometime when I am so I can give you cool pokes. I have a bunch of the new ones that come up late in game, as well as all 3 gen 6 starters, both fossils and random assorted interesting pokes.

Also I only have 1 badge but 120 pokemon in my dex. Cause - breeding + wonder trade.

Hmm, the article says that it's a one way transfer for the Black/White games. You can't get the pokemon back once you put it on your Poke Bank account. But, can't you just make a save game backup of your Black/White, transfer the pokemon, then restore the backup to your Black/White cartridge. Now you have the pokemon sitting on your bank ready for trade on the current X/Y, and still on your Black/White copies waiting to be used or traded again. Pokeduping. I'm not sure if a 3DS saved game backup/restore exists, I stopped following the scene before the release of the 3DS.

Not to my knowledge Tirith. I don't recall it having that ability like the PSP does (or did I don't have a Vita so don't know that scene anymore).
Because the data is stored cartridge side I think, and not on removable media cards. At least I have never seen an option on my 3DS to have backup save system. (It could be there and Ive just not seen it.)

Kinda sad to hear my Pokemon are stuck in W/W2 then for the foreseeable future. I had a fun team oh well Guess I can wait right. Gives me a chance to finish collecting pokemon in Silver/Diamond and moving them to White2.

On that note, are there lots of pokemon in this game? Or is it a similar couple hundred + randoms from previous gens?

IIRC there are 70 or so new ones and tons and tons of older ones. I just beat the 5th gym and my pokedex is already over 200 seen and 150 or so caught.

People have been cloning heavily during 5th generation anyway. They don't need a back up of the whole game, they just use an gameshark thingy or whatever or fake GTS to clone.

What I really came here to say is someone named Laquisha wonder-traded me an Espurr named Plato. He is totally on the championship team now.

The thing that surprised me the most when I got to 5th generation is trading with many people and finding that they didn't nick name their pokemon. That has always been one of my favourite things - but it appears nicknamers are the minority.

PS: I LOVE WONDER TRADE. The fact that you get points you can spend on free items (when the link server stops being too clogged to work anyway). I just ordered 20 rare candies with all the "pokemiles" or whatever I collected from trading.

I sent out some friend requests, I think. I don't really know how it works on 3ds. I don't really have anything useful, but I might want to trade Kadabras with someone, since apparently you have to trade to evolve it? I accidentally cancelled the evolution at 16 or whatever, so mine doens't have Confusion. Whoops.

yeah you need to trade Kadabra to get Allakazam. I actually just did that trade with Vataro earlier this evening.

Spoonless wrote:

You need to give us your number. It doesn't send us a visible "friend request" or anything - we need to add your number and when we both have it our friend card or whatever will show up. Currently those of us you have added will appear grayed out. When we add you we will all show up. (Typical -harder than it needs to be- nintendo online ****)

PS. At end game there is an event that generates pokemon based on your friends, so having lots of friends registered will increase the number of pokes you can catch - with rare abilities etc.

Yeah, join anytime. All the online features of this one lead me to think it will be a lot of fun even if you're only playing with strangers for a long time to come.

PS can't wait for the online boxes! I am already getting to the end of my boxes and I am not even past the first badge.

Random side note - I was in the city yesterday, so I took my 3DS to get streetpasses. 30 miis later, and I still didn't get a single light blue shirt mii to take out that freaking light blue shield in Find Mii.

Everyone in NYC is wearing a dark blue shirt. Smiley: mad
