So they've taken trackpads (the worst part of the laptop and worthless for gaming), haptic feedback (a ****-poor feedback mechanic meant to account for the lack of tactile response on touchscreens), and a touchscreen (probably the part of the Vita I hate the most for actual gaming), and turned it into some form of super controller.

I'm at a loss. I can't think of an insult that would do this thing justice.

Also, I love the attitude:

Sure.

Nothing about that controller looks like a good idea. Try playing a duel stick shooter on a phone or pad and then tell how great it is to use touch controls instead of something less crappy. It also doesn't help that button placement is just awkward. Not to mention that touch screen in the middle is going to damn near useless. When was the last time you looked down at your controller while playing a game? Did it work out particularly well, because I know that when I take my eyes off of the screen, bad things tend to happen.

In order to avoid forcing players to divide their attention between screens, a critical feature of the Steam Controller comes from its deep integration with Steam. When a player touches the controller screen, its display is overlayed on top of the game they’re playing, allowing the player to leave their attention squarely on the action, where it belongs.

I dunno. I am interested in trying this. I don't think it will be great for every game, but if it means I can play Civ 5 with a controller (or one of the many games out there that should work just fine with a controller but doesn't have the interface set up) - I will buy one even if I don't get a steam box.

In terms of the screen I am more weirded out by the fact you need to click it. My work foisted a blackberry torch on me once... clicky touch screens give me nightmares.

Depends what exactly your problem is with that. I hate playing games on my phone because there is nothing telling me where my fingers are on the screen. You can tell exactly where your thumbs are the Gabencontrollerâ„¢ due to the concave design of the touch pads. So im not convinced it will suck in that regard.

The button placement does look awkward I agree.
