Anyone buy this yet?

I really want it, as a big fan of the series. I didn't finish 358/2 Days because the trigger on my DS stopped working and it was just too annoying to play, but I loved KH1, CoM, and KH2.

I'm holding back on grabbing it now, since all my gaming time is going to FFXIV anyway. Smiley: lol

Just curious what people think of the remaster, if anyone has played it yet.

From what I read 1.5 only has KH1 and CoM as playable games, and 3 hours worth of HD cutscenes from 358/2 (which apparently have trophies for sitting through the whole thing Smiley: oyvey). Since it's not KH1 and 2, I'm gonna wait until the price drops before I pick it up.

It didn't remaster KH2? That seems... insane.

I guess we can expect a KH 2 + Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance in the future?

I preordered 1.5 to get the Limited Edition (no extra cost, just a small artbook case). I'll preorder 2.5 as well. I also preordered FFX/X2 remaster (again, limited edition bonus, no extra cost).

The idea is that 2.5 remix will eventually come out. Rumors of KH2 HD remaster and Birth By Sleep, and right now the rumors are Re:Coded cutscenes. I think 3D cutscenes would be better as a lead up to KH3, but 358/2 days was more of a side story too.

I remember trying to play the first KH game and it just annoyed me. I got the Aladdin part and got frustrated and got rid of it. The camera was always swinging where I couldn't see anything and the controls felt like Zelda with a broken controller.

The good news is KH2 fixed the camera complaints with KH1. KH1 Final Mix (rerelease, new content, etc) copied KH2's camera controls. It was previously never released in the US, but now KH1.5 has the Final Mix version of KH1, so it's the corrected camera.

Buy KH1.5 and enjoy the better control system when playing KH1.

KH: Somehow manages to have one of the most convoluted stories in all of RPG gaming, and it somehow still works really well.

Though the fact that the surface story you see in the main console releases makes sense helps.

Yeah. KH1-2 make sense. Mostly. Once you get into the others the story starts to spin out into the realms of complete insanity. (I'm still trying to wrap my head around just WTF happened at the end of 3D.)

Somewhat related, I have a question. What the heck is the point of locking a world? The games make a big show of having you do it but I don't recall if they ever explained why, or what it actually does.

I got a 3ds the other week and almost picked this game up, but I wasn't sure how I would like it on a handheld, having played 1 & 2 with a controller. I may yet get it, if I see it on sale.

IIRC, the worlds themselves have hearts, and the keyhole is the access point to it. The keyblade has the ability to close that portal, so the heartless can't get in.

I don't know why, and it certainly wasn't due to a lack of effort on my part, but I simply couldn't get into the Kingdom Hearts storyline. Nothing to do with a dislike for Disney, as much like pretty much everyone else I grew up with those cartoons and still not so secretly enjoy them, and as much as I speak against it I can certainly tolerate Square enough to put aside our differences and try out a new IP.

So I burned out on FFXIV, and I picked up KH 1.5 because my existing to-play pile for the PS3 alone wasn't large enough. The game is gorgeous. You can definitely still tell that it's a game with upgraded textures (the environment's shapes are often more angular than a new game's would be). But it actually just makes it more endearing to me.

But the colors are just beautiful, and they work quite well together.

Definitely recommend it for anyone looking to replay 1 or CoM.

Personally I liked the parts that had nothing to do with disney storyline. Specifically let's retread a hyper condense version of Disney's mega hits. Made the story in each specific world to predicable. And only have 5-15 minutes of the real story play out after each one instead of through out wore on my will to get through 1.(Aside the platforming. Love the idea but when I get to the top and find myself falling from 5-10 minutes of platforming becuase one enemy flew out yonder and Sora auto attack his *** all the way over there without being able to get back.. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGH) I love the idea behind it, and the disney character's mixing with squares world. I just wish they came up with original storylines for individual worlds instead of butchering Disney's as fan service/filler. Like having the story of the movies change base on what was happening becuase of the worlds colliding. Or whatever(Already forgot a lot sorry) Most people got ****** when they found out I stopped at the second to last dungeon. But I am willing to give this remake a shot becuase the series seems really up my ally.

Sora didn't have an auto-attack. If you flew off a cliff, it's because you told him to attack. Smiley: lol Smashing X isn't always the best plan.

I liked the play on the Disney worlds. I liked the idea of the Disney villains teaming up with the heartless. I liked seeing the stories change due to the sudden presence of heartless. Because it didn't play out the same. Sure, major plot points remained important (like the Cave of Wonders and the Lamp for Alladin). But what happens in the Cave, how Jafar gets and uses the lamp, etc. all change.

Sure, Jack gives up on Christmas and you stop the Hunter dude from killing all the Gorillas. But the other side of things is that those worlds would have fallen into Darkness without Sora's help. And that's the point - keep those worlds going strong, and make sure they remain too significantly unchanged, in the wake of the Heartless attacks.

It's kind of like the Star Trek prime directive. You need to stop the other alien force from destabilizing the natural development of those worlds without too greatly changing their path yourself.

Yeah well that's a lesson I learned painfully on the nightmare before Christmas. It was junk enemies so mashing X seem the most effective use of my time until they flew way over yonder-.-

Any who, like I said I don't remember much of the story, just that it seemed like most if not all the alterations came right at the end of the story as your fighting the boss or right after. Found it boring in a genre including games that are usually very story heavy.(I did enjoy the 5 minutes of the main plot but getting there just waned on me more then others I guess) Oh I also didn't like the secrets you had to have Sora, Goofy, and Donald for. What's the point of having world specific characters if using them prevents you from getting hidden stuff?

I think your problem is that you were focusing on a sub-plot and getting angry it wasn't the main plot, to be honest. Finding Riku and Kairi was not the main plot of the game. It wasn't even Sora's main plot, to be honest. Sora's main plot was seeing the worlds, experiencing new things, meeting new people, and dealing with becoming the keyblade master.

The plot of "Find Riku/Kairi" was part of the impetus to get him moving on that quest, sure, but it wasn't really the main quest. Eventually the two converge, but the Disney world stuff is the primary story plot for most of the game.

The Disney Worlds drive the story of the Villains-using-heartless, and together they serve as the primary antagonist for most of the game. The keyholes are directly linked to the main quest of the keyblade master.

Afterwards, the Riku/Kairi-based plot arc is in place to help transition you onto the next world. And that makes perfect sense. But it was never really the main plot.

If you just weren't interested in the main plot arc of the game, that's fine. But I think it's problematic to pick a subplot and elevate its importance for purposes of a game critique.

As for the Disney plots, I don't really see the problem, to be honest. Sure, many plot aspects were very similar. And all of them were predictable in a certain sense.

But they weren't really predictable because of the Disney aspects, they were predictable because the good guys were going to win. For the most part, the villains were more blatantly the villains than in most Disney films (I don't think any of them weren't established as the villain for all players at the start of the world).

But that's why it's told from the perspective of Sora and the gang, not from the characters of the world. Sora doesn't know what happens - it matters to him.

I dunno, I don't think the stories being "spoiled" matter that much.
