New beta invites are going out, I may or may not have gotten one. If I did, I would be spending a fair amount of time this weekend checking it out.

I got one. A friend will be in from Europe, and I'm seeing her at least Sunday/Monday. Didn't look at when the beta was open, so Idk if I'll be able to try it out.

The email says from Friday, November 22nd at 6:00PM EST until Sunday, November 24th at 11:59PM EST.

I won't be able to play a ton, since I have to work :(

I forgot all about this. Actually, I remembered it a week or two ago and was going to ask if anyone else had gotten contacted but forgot again.

I may or may not have also received an invite.

Got an invite for the event this weekend. My sister is in town and I have a Calculus test on Monday, though, so we'll see if that ends up happening.

So the beta that I might or might not be in that might or might not be going on currently, seems to be having issues with everyone maybe or maybe not trying to log in and hammering the login servers...

I heard that there are a lot of issues logging in. I heard that someone saw the character creation screen, but then the game crashed.

Sheesh, you'd think it was a beta or something.

I think this beta is a stress test without being directly called that. Just look at the amount of people mentioning that got in for this event, when the beta has actually been going on for a while now.

I may have managed to get in, tried to adjust the graphics settings and immediately froze the game. If that had happened, it would be a problem.

While we are discussing hypotheticals...suppose I got an invite to do a beta test on a game this weekend, and when I go to register my account, the browser gives me a 500 Internal Server Error. Posted on the official forums and two other people mentioned the same problem, but no solutions yet. Anyone here got any ideas? Tried on two different computers (mac and PC), and two different browsers on both computers (Safari and Firefox). Color me stumped.

I may or may not be attempting to participate. I may or may not be having difficulties logging in. I may or may not be dealing with launcher crashes. And finally, I may or may not be dealing with crash reporters crashing while attempting to report crashes. So, seems there is still a LONG way to go on this.

Quick update...

I now have my MacBook Pro, my Desktop PC, and my neighbor's laptop PC, all with the same version of Firefox, on the same ISP, and I made sure they all had the same option settings...

And my neighbor's laptop is the only one that doesn't get 500 Internal Server Error when I try to log in. I was able to create my account on the borrowed computer, and it is downloading the game... I am so freaking confused!

I may or may not like thsi game. I may or may not wish i have a hand held controller. I may or may not think the graphics are killer. I may or may not think the controls and key mapping need some tuning. I may or may not wish i had action bars visible. I may or may not think that my cursor on screen being attached to my mouse sucks my a$$(going back to my controller comment and maybe wishing i had one it may work much better) I may or may not want to play more of this beta down the road. I may or may not enjoy fishing the streams. Or gathering herbs and wood. **** you tradeskills always suck me in.

Well, controller controls are probably their main focus, since they are developing it for X1 and PS4, too.

I'd like to see a current breakdown of Skyrim sales by platform, but the initial breakdown seems to put it at 14% of Skyrim sales were on PC, while the rest were on the 360 and PS3. This console market is clearly going to be their focus. Of course, I am sure the PC percentage has gone up over time, with Steam sales and whatnot.

That's going a little far... playing around is one thing but we aren't really divulging any info that isn't going to be assumed or expected. like the control and crash thing I knew it was going to be tough getting into the server as it would be over run. And the control ive been playing since Oblivion (dabbled a little in Morrowind) and I know its mostly a console game and the controls are going to be messed up. Just like I don't like playing Command and Conquer games on console I prefer PC for those types of games they don't translate well on console imo. So video eh a little far they may need to be reported.....

Except for the main part of the controls, where the mouse directly controls the camera and the left click attacks and right click blocks. That's just Skyrim (FPS) controls. It's got the controls of an FPS, not an MMO.

A few out of all the MMOs in existence, I'm not sure how that defines "standad" MMO controls.

Edit:
That being said, I don't have many issues with these controls. The issues I have right now are more cosmetic, and how it handles things like clipping, registering hits, targeting, etc. The game controls play just like Skyrim, which is to be expected.

While I may or may not have been playing the beta this weekend, I may or may not have had the same thought that I may or may not have had during my last beta experience: it's just not very intimate or suspenseful to run through a dungeon while a dozen dudes named things like "HempKnight" and "xXxSephirothxXx" jump around and kill mobs ahead of you. The biggest draw to the single-player Elder Scrolls games is completely ruined when you add a few thousand people to the environment. Not to mention that the questing is mind-numbing. It's the same grind as every other MMO.

It looks beautiful, and the skill system is interesting, but ultimately it just makes me want to play Skyrim.

It has become the new standard, get used to it. Older games use the older controls, but action MMOs are the new thing and they all use this control scheme.
#101 Nov 24 2013 at 5:03 PM Rating: Excellent
I wouldnt say "new standard" but I would definitely say its here to stay as an option at least in most mmo's in the future. Kind of like the before WASD was introduced, then it was that or arrows keys. I started EQ on arrow keys and WASD took me a bit to get used to. Now though I've adapted and I prefer it. I'm also to blame, because I do try to play as many pc games on a controller as I can.
