That's at 20, right? Then no.

I did find a quest hub to just do some stuff at over in Drybones, so I've been doing that. Oh, and while looking for a story quest, I ran across someone who taught me how to dye. Thus it begins.

You'd be amazed at how many people where shouting for the location of the orange juice vender a couple months ago. It's amazing how hard it is for people to to just look for stuff before begging to be lead to the answer.

Tried that. Didn't see anything but that doesn't mean it wasn't necessarily there. I did use spot checks as my dump skill. Also already attended the party. I'm thinking I'll just go to the starters for each and every 15th level quest that doesn't look familiar to me until I find something.

Try this, a list of the story quests. See which is the last you did and pick up from there. I seem to remember hitting a spot early on where I didn't intuitively know where to go. Maybe that's where you are now.

Good Luck.

A common one for people to miss during the Emissary questline is talking to the Seer guy after completing Gridania's quest. He is near the Conjurers' Guild I believe. At that point in the quest there is no active quest telling you to talk to him, but there is a quest icon on him. I have helped probably 4 or 5 people at that point during the quest. It's one of the few points where visiting Minfilia or one of the Adventure Guild folk isn't the answer.

It looks like this is the point where I'm at. I'll have to check it out in the morning. Thanks for the help, y'all.

And I was going to be damned if I had to ask where to find orange juice, but the story quest thing eluded me since I couldn't seem to find the next breadcrumb.

So, found it. Sure enough, that was correct. For some reason, however, he wasn't showing up on the map, but when I got there, it was plain as day. Smiley: glare

Edit: And it seems to be a party quest. Hrm.

I was hoping to avoid doing PuGs. Oh well. Couldn't get a group via Duty Finder this morning, so I'll try it again on the weekend. Can level Archer if I play tomorrow.

I went through the whole storyline using the duty finder. It worked out well enough. Just make sure to check out the fights before hand so you know what to do. Some of them are fairly straightforward, others have some odd mechanics. Really, using the DF is a pretty painless way to play, as long as you have something else to do in game while waiting for it. Now that a lot of people have at least one level 50 it's probably going to take longer getting groups though.

I don't think it's feasible to go through without it. Possible, but not particularly efficient.

The biggest issue is going to be the primal fights. There's no reason to redo them, besides the quest credit, so finding people to do them is going to be hard. But because they're required to advance the story, they'll be people in the queue.

They REALLY need to add in some item rewards to those. Because the chance to wipe is higher than in dungeons, so higher repair bills, but you don't get ANYTHING for them.

The problem is that with a job system, you only have to do the story once. In other MMO where you have to level a new character to play a different class, there's a constant stream (or at least a trickle) of players that are going to be running low-level content. They should implement some sort of daily reward for running each dungeon/fight daily, maybe a weekly reward if you complete X number of dungeons in a week. It can be something as simple as a massive EXP reward (maybe a usable item so you could use it on another job).

Any recommendations on where to look up fights?

On a closely related note, any suggestions on where to look up more optimal stat allocation(I've been doing 3int->1 piety) and rotations by class? Also, any suggestions on proper threat management? Only thing close to a dungeon I've done is some single boss FATEs and I've been having trouble not drawing aggro there.

leads me to believe ARCTHM/BLM?

As far as dungeons go, I think they did a nice job with dungeon difficulty. You might find the earlier dungeons a bit easy, but they seem to start off simple and slowly, with each one adding something to the mix until you get to Hauke Manor, which was the first dungeon I found to be challenging (as a CNJ/WHM). The first dungeon was more of a "everyone DPS" kind of thing. As a CNJ, I was throwing a heal every 10 seconds or so - a long time to sit and watch, so I was doing a fair bit of dps also.

If I recall correctly, the first dungeon's only real mechanic was on the final boss fight. Someone correct me if I have my dungeons mixed up, but I think that was the one where you fight the boss in a cavern and there are four grates on the floor. When you get a message that the water is bubbling up or boiling up, you have to interact with that grate or an add joins the fight. The first time I did it no one knew about that mechanic and we downed the boss in one shot with a load of adds.

Because it's so early in the life of the game, I didn't find any one place for good fight descriptions and wound up using google each time. There is a pretty decent sub-reddit (FFXIVTC*) dedicated to theorycrafting only - no "look at the pretty screenshot" posts - and I'm at the office and don't have access to my gaming computer but there's also at least one decent theorycrafting website. I'm sure google will turn it up.

* There's actually a thread on the front page titled "BLM Stat weights in term of Int/DPS." They seem to be dismissive of Piety.

As far as threat management goes, it is definitely something you will always be aware of, which is something I love about this game. Unlike WoW where you count to five or something and then blast away as DPS, in this game threat is always an issue. That makes tanking, DPSing, and healing much more interesting, in my opinion. I can't speak to your actual threat management skills because my ARC is still low level. My CNJ/WHM really didn't get much of a threat skill until later than you are now, and I use it all the time in dungeons on the trash fights.

EDIT: need moar coffee - Thaum not Arc.

Threat was always an issue for me in WoW, especially with PuG tanks. That's part of why I'm so concerned about it now.

I'll check out that link after lunch. Sounds like EJ, which I always enjoyed reading. Thanks for the info.

There will be something similar to this in 2.1.

I don't even know if I'll still be subbed by the time 2.1 hits though, lol.

I only played the "free" 30 days. I'll resub for a month when there's a major story update or something. I had a lot of fun in the game, but unfortunately there just wasn't a compelling reason to stay subscribed. I feel like I can subscribe for a month every once in a while, get my fill and be done with it. This isn't really an issue with FFXIV, but MMO in general for me.

I was having tons of fun up until level 30 or so. My fun dropped off significantly after that. I feel like they have some solid ideas, but they need work, and a bunch more content from level 1 all the way through cap.

If they make those changes, I'll probably check the game out again after the first major expansion.

I was having fun up until I went away for a week and realized that I didn't really miss it. I logged on last night to do some botany and that was it. Haven't run any dungeons in a couple weeks, and find myself playing other games on the weekends. Doesn't help that all of my main group of friends unsubbed.

I'm still playing. I'm enjoying the casual route. Right now I play a couple hours a day and am working on 100% fishing. I'm still only a level 34 Paladin. Haven't progressed the story too much, just exploring the world.

One thing I don't like is how empty Duty Finder makes the world. So many good looking areas, and I only see a couple people running around. Major dungeon entrances are almost barren. I liked it during Closed Beta before they added the Duty Finder. Now people want to fight Ifrit, one person is in Ul'dah, another is in Gridania, a third is over in Costa Del Sol, etc. Not one even in the Bowl of Embers or even Drybone. I like the Duty Finder, I just don't like what it does to the zones.

Shout is all but dead except for the "LFM FATE" or "LFM HYDRA" shouts. I think this is because most players stopped using the shout channel after the crazy RMT Spam. But the RMT no longer spam Shout, it's all about random tells. And those are few and far in between these days.

I hate FATE groups, and I hate how the player base has to be 100% best efficiency all the time rather than enjoying the game for what it is. Playing this game casually is such a different experience. And when they made the game so casual-friendly, it made it way too easy for those that played constantly and sought out the most efficient routes for everything. It's almost as if the player base ruins the game for themselves.

IMO though, they really should have used a "handcrafted/self-gathered" flag on the items to make sure that people doing crafting/gathering class quests and leves don't just buy the items and turn them in. Not doing that was a mistake. Being able to just buy these things ruins the experience and ruins a simple game feature. But I don't think they'll ever change that.

I've tried Titan HM so many times I've got the fight memorized, but I can never get with a group that can actually kill the *******. I did get to 3% today, but then the whole thing just fell apart, I have no idea how. That coupled with the either fact that I'm stuck grinding tomes or leveling crafts that have no real use at the moment and I've pretty much lost interest. I'll pop in now and again until my sub runs out then take a break. Hopefully a few patches from now there will be some decent content. I have BF4 and NI No Kuni, not to mention my ridiculous Steam stockpile to play, so I've got plenty to keep my occupied while I wait for SE to make the game fun again.

Used to get /tell spam from Goldceo Com<random letters> all day long, ever 30-40 minutes. It was never the same one. But after the last mass bannings a couple days ago I haven't seen any Goldceo spam. And I only got two other /tell spam messages.
