Ah yes, the inevitable Zam "play for three weeks before the Zam guild becomes a ghost town" effect.
Oh, hey, that reminds me of another thing I actually really like about FFXIV. Guilds and Linkshells are different things. I put together a TINFS linkshell, which is essentially an organized chat channel and no more. Essentially, it's what WoW guilds were before Guild banks (and traits/whatever) were introduced.
Guilds are more similar to modern WoW guilds, and they can get player housing, etc.
It's really nice, because it means you can play/chat with all your friends on the server without ever having to sacrifice the level of content you want to do. Want to do hardcore endgame stuff? No problem. Most of your friends are raiders, and you just like leveling new classes? No problem.
There IS a Zam guild, but it's the people from the General FFXIV board so... you might not want to head there.

Three parties I've tried Garuda fight with. So far, no wins. It's not even that hard of fight, but people won't f*cking listen.
To be fair, it's definitely a more complicated fight. It's probably the hardest in the game right now, no? Excepting if you don't have the gear to do the hard dps race that is Titan. The group I cleared it on was definitely grasping the concepts, but it took a fair number of wipes to get us to a point where we were executing the strategy well enough to get through it.
That fight was ROUGH on me as a healer, because there's so much damage, and a lot of it isn't necessarily avoidable depending on your party setup. Trying to heal a Warrior tank was just way too hard on it; I finally cleared it with a Pld.
And because she has a melee AoE attack, a party with no melee DPS is way easier in that regard. Losing out on the melee LB is tough, but it's good enough if it means staying alive. To be fair, I didn't try it with a Drg, so I don't know if their range is far enough to avoid that AoE. But most Drgs I meet are awful, so...
Now, if you have people standing next to pillars, then yeah. Shame on them.
