I haven't actually reached a sanctuary on a character I intended to keep, so I mostly pick and choose what to read. :P

Also, since Ultros is closed, I don't really expect to play anymore either. No reason to at this point.

Well, looks like I might be done. Internet pooped out, and now it's apparently so full it's not even putting me in a queue. Gladiator to 15 or 16, Conjurer to 16, finished main story through Airship Pass. I'll probably try to get on later, but I had a good time.

Conjurer is really freakin' boring. I should level THM a little bit to get some offensive abilities. I was mainly using normal questing to level CNJ, and then switching to Levequests for GLA, and setting the difficulty to a level or two above my current level.

NA/EU beta servers are open until 8AM PDT today, so if you have time, I'd at least make sure to move your character to an inn or Sanctuary. I don't know if rested EXP will accrue over the time until Early Access, but it's worth a shot.

This game really needs another "healer" base class, or the ability to queue as a healer from another class, like Arcanist. I guess you'd have to do a check to see that they have Cure equipped or whatever, but only one healing class for the initial run of dungeons makes for some long queues. I know Scholar is a healing job, but that doesn't help at the low levels if you can't queue as a healer on Arcanist.

I think we'll need to wait and see. We saw WAY more Arcanists than we'll see during live, and I'm sure a large number of those players are ones that will main a Thaum or a Conj.

It's also worth noting that the DF is clearly meant to be a support tool for grouping, not the main function. It's meant to be the way you group with minimal effort. But it's also restrictive in return. Everyone is reduced down to their most basic role, and that's all. But if you have a party already, you can queue in the Duty Finder just to get the quest itself.

Also, since you can unlock Scholar at 30, it's not actually that large of a period where you only have one healer.

It's also worth noting that Conj is probably going to be a very widely-leveled class. Glads need it for Paladin, Arcanists need it for Scholar. It gives Cure, Protect, and Cleric Stance, all awesome cross-class skills (the last of which might actually open the highest damage option for Thaums).

Plus, there are plenty of people who choose their classes based on faster queue times.

I ended up getting CNJ to 19, running the first two dungeons on it (and ending up getting more GLA gear via Greed than I got CNJ gear via Need Smiley: lol), and GLA to 16. I didn't touch crafts at all.

I kind of wish it was still CNJ/GLA for WHM. It would have made life as a PLD much easier, since I'll want to have CNJ at cap for cross-class abilities. Now I'll have to level Arcanist, too. At least then I can switch between WHM and SCH to get that leveled.

You'll only need Arcanist to 15 for Whm though, right? So that's not much more effort.

But then I won't have access to any Arcanist abilities above level 15. I can't just half-*** it like that.

And then you'll need to level Thaum, because otherwise your Summoner is going to be lagging behind.

Nah, I'll just do Scholar, with the Conjurer subclass.

You say that now, but you'll be singing a different tune if they introduce a Bahamut Egi.

Smiley: lol Nah, I'm just not a fan of pet classes in general. I don't think I ever got my SMN in FFXI past level 3. I like the concept, but I just don't really have any interest in playing it.

I have an obsession with pet classes, yet I so rarely play them. It's weird.

Almost never played Drg, Smn, or Pup in FFXI. Then again, I was largely playing when those classes were super under powered and unwanted.

In WoW, I didn't seriously play a pet class until they released DK (though I mained Unholy the entire time I played one). Then moved onto Mage (pre-pet, mostly). And Druid.

It's funny, too. When I found out there was no pet class in the original FFXIV, it made me far less interested in the game. Even though I've never been a huge player of them. But when I DO play pet classes, it's all-in on the pet (Beast mastery spec, Demonology spec, etc.)

I'm also really sensitive to aesthetics. If I don't like the idea of a class, the chance of me really maining it are far lower.

I noticed they changed a few things P3 > P4. At Level 10 you can not quick craft, which is one of the things I complained about in P3. It lowers your xp per craft significantly but it will allow you to make bulk of an item without having to do the "mini game" each craft. You lose a ton of XP doing it so I wouldnt suggest it while leveling but its better then having to make basic ingredients at a snails pace (Like making boards)

Also the starter quests to the Woodworking guild give Ice crystals also, so you dont hit 10 and get stuck with no crystals.

Overall I didnt get as far as some of you guys, LNC 16, MRD 11, Woodworking 11, Everything else 5 or so.

Spoon was right about Archer being OP, I did the same as him took down a Lvl 12 tree @lvl 4 by kitting, Its boring and you miss alot but it can be done. Its easy to fix though just put a small root in place on each ability.

I'm going to assume you didn't read the class quest text, but kiting is an intended play mechanic. Also, you're discussing balance <lvl10.

Archer has some very high spike damage that carries a ton of hate. I always had trouble in phase 3 keeping enemies off of archers who thought they had to use every buff and damage attack at the very start of every battle when all I had done was use Shield Lob. It's like they knew they could spike tons of damage and felt that it made them more awesome since they could pull hate from a one shield lob attack...

It did really break immersion for me playing Archer that I could fire my shots with no effort while running in the opposite direction. Absolutely hated that. Also, can't the Archer apply a short heavy? Adding a pause would probably add balance.

Why didn't you put in a new app for the open beta? You could have played this weekend. :/

Beta invite in general, or for phase 4? Because you just needed to download the client for Phase 4, provided you were in an earlier beta.

I didn't know. I don't venture into the XIV forums anymore. They are either boring or a whole forum of alma vs gbaji. I wasn't in an earlier beta, well... I borrowed a friend's account for 1 night but I want any char I make in this phase to be attached to my real squeenix account.

:( Well, if you want to play with character creation, download the benchmark test. It has a character creator on it and you can save what you make, for use in the actual game.
