Looks like there's going to be another Phase 3 test. I was really hoping P3 was done, as it seemed they tested everything mentioned on the timeline.

It's hard to get out of the mindset where you're treating it as early access, especially if you're not coming across any bugs. Smiley: lol

They may have decided to finish introducing the classes before they move to open beta. Which I'd definitely hold to be an intelligent decision, so I can't hold that against them.

Of course, it could be for something else entirely. I'm just hoping.

I'm all for that. Walked around LL for a while yesterday, found the Fisherman Guild and the Arcanist guild... no recruiter NPCs :(

I wanted to try Fishing to see where the points would be. And all that was in the Arcanist guild was a bunch of nameless NPC with Carbunkles.

Oh, and for the Phase 3 Beta, there were certain NPCs that would auto raise you to level 15 on your second classes if you completed the main story on your first class. If we go another weekend of Phase 3, I'll probably do that to get my sub jobs up to 15 for unlocking what ever main secondary I want...

Looking at the forums, it seems that Phase 4 isn't meant to be that long. 2 weeks at max. So there's really no good reason to hope for it to come sooner than later, because the launch date is the 27th. I rather have relatively unimpeded access from open beta -> early access -> launch, than have a big gap between open beta and early access.

Plus, the better open beta works, the stronger the launch will be, which will be good for the game.

And it seems even more important, then, to make sure everything is actually IN the game by open beta.

I wish I had known that before I spent all that time leveling Conjurer to 15. I might have had time to get Gladiator to 26 and boost to 29.

I think I found an NPC that said they could boost to 30, actually.

I think that is the 26-29 jump he is talking about. Apparently it's after you do one of the later Dungeons to boost you up to the next. If next weekend is another phase 3, I'm gonna try to get to PLD and see what it's like.

So it's clear that we should be getting at least one more job option for each class to specialize into in the future. I imagine those are probably near the top of the development list. Right now, only Arcanist has two specializations (damage/utility -> Summoner, healing/support -> Scholar).

Gladiator defensively specs into Paladin. They're clearly going to need an offensive option. I'm guessing it'll be Samurai, Dark Knight, Fencer, or Ninja.

Pugilist offensively specs into Monk. They'll probably get something to focus on their avoidance-based defenses, like Ninja. Maybe Brawler?

Lancer offensively specs into the longer-ranged and AoE Dragoon. They'll probably get something that restricts their range and adds to their utility/support? I have no clue what that would be. Alternatively, they could make it the route of the Dark Knight, I suppose...

Thaumaturge offensively specs into Black Mage.

Conjurer specializes in healing with White Mage.

I'm thinking these two, plus Gladiator support, will specialize into the Red Mage.

Other options, Conjurer -> Time Mage, Illusionist, Sage, Bishop. Thaumaturge -> Illusionist, Alchemist, Trickster, Spell Blade, Elementalist.

The magic disciplines are harder to imagine proper specializations for, since we have the two extremes in game already, plus a class for debuffing and versatility...

I always kind of thought DRK and PLD were opposite sides of a coin. It'd be appropriate for Gladiator to transition into both, though I could see Marauder getting DRK.

Yeah. I see it as being a toss-up - do they want the poetic balance of Gladiator speccing Pld or Drk, or do they want to go the easier route and just let the two-handed abilities that already exist for Marauder work for a Great Sword. Or they could go Scythe, and use that to justify a Lancer foundation.

We'll see. I'd be shocked if they didn't add it relatively early in the game's expansion history.

****. I haven't been this hooked this early in an MMO since I started FFXI (since that was the first MMO I played). I just want regular access to happen RIGHT NAO.

Also, if beta weekends could ******* include Sunday, that'd be great. I work Friday and Saturday and it keeps bumming me out that the one day I have off, access ends in the wee hours of the morning.

Apparently posting a twelve second video of a graphical glitch in the beta forum is enough to get a temp ban for 9 days. Only from the beta forum though, not the game itself.

The final Phase 3 weekend starts this Wednesday and goes until Monday. So there's that.

Also, according to the gen board, Arcanist and Fisherman won't be in the game until launch. Smiley: frown

Ah, cool. So after that, there's probably a couple weeks to prep for phase 4?

Iirc, it's a 2-3 week phase 4, then a short break, then early access (which is 2-3 days).

So assume 3 days, another 3 break, then two-3 weeks for a total of 3-4 weeks before launch. It's launching in late August. So say 2 weeks?

I wasn't really planning on playing much during the week. I have extremely limited free time on weekdays, and it forces me to be fairly strict about how I spend my time.

All I have planned for this beta event is to:

1. Try the rest of the classes to get a very basic feel for how they play.
2. Try and get a feel for what combat animations are like, so I can get more information on what to play.
3. Explore LL and Ul'dah some more, for a better feel which city I'd want to start in (I've already explored Gridania, and it's a contender).

Actual PLAY probably won't happen.

Gridania is very Windhursty. Environment and Government.
Ul'dah has the monarchy of San'doria, but the environment of Bastok.
LL has the environmental feel of San'doria, but the government of Bastok.

And all three nations are led by women. And I think all the adventure guild leaders are female... (but, it's been a while since I've talk to the LL proprietor/proprietress, so I could be mistaken) .

And the little Tarutaru (I forget how to spell their FFXIV races...) gal that is the doorwoman for the Scions is cute when she freaks out. All of the tarutaru people freak out at odd locations. I'm pretty sure when the Slutana of Ul'dah appeared in one cutscene, everyone kind of bowed or took a knee, except one tarutaru captian, who threw both his arms up in suprise and staggered backward. That seems to be a very common animation.

Idk what Im going to do for the last part of Phase 3. I want to play, but I also dont want to put to much time into a character I know will be deleted soon. Ill probably reroll a character as a lancer or healer or something. Im already skipping story as not to ruin it so I have something to look forward to come permanent characters.

Maybe Ill focus on crafting/gathering

Do you know what you want to start as already? Because that's what I'm focusing on, so I'm ready to go later.

Of course, if they aren't releasing Arcanist in P4, I might as well not bother. That's what my immediate goal is. Otherwise, Conjurer.

But still, I'm going to review all the current animations, so I can figure out my race.

My plan right now is to get GLA to 30 to try out Paladin. I won't be touching any of the other classes in beta, except maybe a gathering and/or a crafting class. I want to save some stuff for when I eventually get bored down the road.

I think a big thing for me will be to play around with the UI. I just have to find out if UI changes will carry through to Phase 4. I would hate to spend the hours it will take me to get my UI just right, only to have it wiped. Smiley: lol

This was a pretty neat "ultimate job list" someone came up with: http://i.imgur.com/AGwf3O9.jpg

As for Turin, it's explicitly stated that video capture is not permitted at this time. What did you expect to happen?

I'm leaning towards a female Elezen or Hyur. I'll probably end up with the Hyur, because there's something appealing about tanking giant mobs as an almost dainty-looking character, and Elezen are just too tall for that effect. The only thing that's pushing me towards Elezen is that in FFXI, I think Hume was the most popular race. I guess I was thinking that a Duskwight Elezen might make my character be a little more unique. I never liked playing as Tarutaru characters, and Lalafell have the same feel. I like them as a race, and I like when my friends play as them; it's just not something I'll choose. I don't like playing as the big races because while their actual groundspeed is the same as all the other races, the lumbering animations make them feel slow. Plus, in tight spaces, camerawork can be a *****.

I love some of those, agree with many, don't agree with some, and hate a few. So... success?

My biggest issue is how many additional classes they added to make it work. That's a LOT of additional development I don't see happening. We'll definitely see SOME new classes, but I'm doubting we'll see anything close to that many even in a decade.

I can see them adding a daggers class and a gun class. But everything else seems close enough to an existing weapon that it will probably just exist for jobs, like greatswords.

Which isn't to say that I wouldn't love a greatsword class. I just see them expanding Gladiator or Marauder with it, in the context of a job. Same thing with Rapiers - why bother, when you can just toss them to the Gladiator, disable slashing-based attacks, and add a bunch of new piercing attacks with a Fencer job?

Elvaan were pretty popular too, because of so many people trying to min/max for physical DPS. At the same time, Hume were popular because of so many people wanting to be average+ in every job (Humes were statistically pretty great across the board, compared to how high/low the stat could actually go based on race). Tarus were probably third, for people specializing in Magic. Then Mithra, for people with odd fetishes, and the desire to specialize into dex/agi-based classes. Galka were definitely last.

And yeah, Galka felt like you were moving so slow. Which was one reason I adored playing my Tarutaru. Smiley: lol

For me, it's Lalafell, Miqo'te, or Hume.

Well, that job list was intended to get every FF job into the game. I don't think it was intended to be really feasible.
