The director has made the decision not to do this. The male Miqo'te markings are a special characteristic of the race, and aren't actually tattoos. They are born with these markings and they become deeper in color as they grow older, but similar to people who have thin and thick facial hair, there are individual differences. With that said, there are some female Miqo'te face types that do not have this, but all of the male face types do. This is something the development team wants to adhere to and we appreciate your understanding.

Sorry Bean.

Also, current face types/facial hair options are what they'll be at launch. After launch, they say they'll weigh whether or not to prioritize new faces for existing races, or new races, period (I hope the former). But they don't immediately intend to launch new ones. I guess the idea is that they were balancing memory usage against customization - the fewer individual options a machine has to load, the less juice it takes. Part of their goal for ARR was to expand their range of tech support, so this could be a casualty of that.

They'll be adding new hair options after launch, as well as a salon-esque system to allow you to change them. They are withholding comment on whether or not you'll be able to change your face (and I assume that decision won't be decided until new faces exist).

More info on this stuff and other stuff here.

Yoshi-P says that Phase 4 will be one week, and that it will have voice-acting and Arcanist in it. Also, apparently there will be an EXP bonus once your first class/job is 50, according to this Reddit thread: lolreddit

Arcanist, here I come.

[EDIT]

I love that the FFXIV forum is just as vile as the FFXI one was. Smiley: lol Regardless of how long I play the game, I don't expect to spend a lot of time there.

The o-boards? I stay far, far away from them. The /r/ffxiv subreddit seems decent enough, though I'm sure it'll end up being a fair amount of ******** there too.

No, our board. It's not quite as vile as the FFXI one, to be fair, but give it time.

Smiley: lol I posted a fair amount on the FFXI one back in the day, but I don't think I could stomach it now. I dunno, I saw their thread about where they're all playing, and it just makes me want to make sure I'm not there.

Yeah. I do have good memories there, particularly of the Warrior boards, but it wasn't the best. And it definitely wasn't inviting to new posters - I almost never posted. Not having at least scholar seemed like an instant rate-down regardless of what/how your posted. And karma was more punishing back then.

A summary of other stuff he said:

They're trying to get Arcanist ready for Phase 4
Please wait a little more for the details on how Arcanist works (perhaps revealed in the upcoming Niconico Live Event?)
Event Bosses implemented in Phase 4
SLI support implemented in Phase 4
Male Miqotes (and other races?) will have unique motions when entering baths
When leveling a second class, you will have bonus exp
Addressed a bug where the cursor goes funny in some instances
Adjustments to how (slow/fast) a Gatherer levels
Adjustments (maybe) to the ease of making HQs from NQ materials in crafting
An in-game event will be implemented right away after Launch (Bomb Event?)
The dev team has designed endgame events to outright kill players
(The Labyrinth of) Bahamut is so long, it pretty much requires players to 'save progress' as they proceed through the dungeon
No plans to implement a 'your server only' option for the Duty Finder as for now

As per why he came to that decision for the last point, Yoshi-P made a long post about the Duty Finder in which he explains why, so wait till the offical translated response for that.

Tonight right before I was going to log out I met a conjurer trying to get a few more tokens to get his chocobo. So I tried helping with the Giant goat Fate outside Drybone. It ended up being a failure, we killed two of them before we ran out of time.

So I invited him to join me on a quick Tam Tara Deepcroft run, and since we were a Tank/Healer party, Duty Finder was instantaneous. Fun thing was, it teamed us up with a Thaumaturge and a Dragoon. That Dragoon was powerful. And she(he) knew what she(he) was doing. The whole team was able to work together without talking. Everyone waited for me to pull, the Thaumaturge slept everything, the Dragoon waited for me to build up a couple Flashes worth of Hate. Once the main target was dead, everyone waited for me to choose the next and then focused on it.

Everything went very smoothly. And that Dragoon had some crazy skills. I think it's a Lancer skill, since I have kind of noticed it before, but it knocks the enemy clear across the room and stuns it... never seen it so effective as when that Dragoon was using it.

I ended up getting the green Unique boot drops for the Tam Tara (Plundered). So now I'm pretty much all dungeon drops. Slowly working my way up to the level required to start the next dungeons. Just got level 23 in this last run. Going to try the next dungeon tomorrow.

I ran through the Limsa Lominsa dungeon. The tank had run it before so we all pretty much just followed him. It went very smoothly, sadly it dropped mostly mage gear, so I didn't get anything out of it. I was going to do the Gridania one, but I didn't want to wait around for the Duty Finder to do it's thing, I did take Leather worker to level 10 just to get a feel for the crafting system. So far I like it. The idea of being able to control what I'm making appeals to much more than the random luck that comes with most other crafting systems. I could see me leveling several crafts in this game.

The level 30 dungeon presents a bit of challenge. Some of the pulls are a bit rough to heal. Of course, I got grouped with a mage who insisted on sleeping a mob before I pulled. This isn't WoW; crowd control abilities will pull the whole pack. Then I'm chasing him around the room because he won't run to me, and a lot of really unnecessary cures are being thrown about. I tried to get him to let me pull before sleeping a mob, after which I'd reposition the group as needed, but the other DD ended up logging out and with no kick function, we had to disband the group.

I like that that group failed. I like that the pulls presented a challenge. I'm sure a lot of it was due to people in the group not having level-appropriate gear (heck, I used level 15 gear up until I hit 30, pretty much).

The Lancer ability, Invigorate, seems like it'd be pretty key for GLA tanking. I find myself getting TP starved in longer engagements.

Smiley: frown And of course I forgot my phone at home today, so I can't play FFXIV at work. I'll actually have to be productive.

Kind of a lengthy read explaining the job/class system.

I hadn't really read up on how it worked before, so I found it interesting.

I've done Halatali and Maws. Maws we wiped twice on the final boss. Third time we got it down.

Currently level 25, running a series of Fates that spawn around the Highbridge in Eastern Thanalan. Making decent EXP and seals. The Grand Company equipment has some nice stats on it, and is relatively cheap in terms of Seals. Going to level up a bit and then try finding the 26-29 jumper.

There's a Wandeirng Minstrel or w.e. right near the Hall of Flames (or whatever it's called) in Ul'dah. He'll raise your level to 29, and when you hit 30, he'll give you your level 30 ability. There's probably one in every city, I'd think.

Also, Yoshi-P talks about the Duty Finder: http://forum.square-enix.com/ARR-Test/threads/70904-Option-for-same-world-parties?p=975790#post975790

I bumped myself to 29 Gladiator and 15 Conjurer. Slowly working my way to 30. Probably do a few dungeons tonight. The Fates in Dry Bone are quick though. End up getting about... 25,000 exp for the set of four that occur right in a row. 5000, 5000, 5000, 10000. Then there are a few odd ones in between that give you 4000-8000 each. Then Just head back to Highbridge to wait for another.
