The only Xbox exclusive I remotely care about is Halo. PS4 is cheaper, seems to be more indie-conscious, and will get several JRPG I'll want to play over its life. Plus, they have Naughty Dog making exclusives, so there's that.

I'll end up with an X1 after they release one without a Kinect.

The sad thing is that I like a bunch of stuff about my 360 over my PS3 and would love to support Microsoft here, but I just can't. I'm not a big achievement/trophy hunter, but the Xbox way of assigning an overall score with points values on achievements is far more addicting than Sony's trophy system. I like the 360 dashboard, regardless of what other people say. Sure there are ads, but that's how I've found out about a multitude of games and movies I wouldn't have otherwise. It was effective advertising in my case, and I don't mind it. I like the Xbox Live multiplayer experience.

10 questions answered about the PS4 answered.

1. The PS4 has party chat, and you can have up to 2k friends.
2. The PS4 does not support DualShock 3, but it does support move.
3. PSPlus will be required for online multiplayer, NOT required for streaming services, party chat, or free-to-play games. (We knew this...?)
4. It will only be jet black at launch. Apparently the PS3 was "piano black."
5. It's longer than the giant brick, but much thinner, and more square. Definitely more chic.
6. There are plans to support 3D, but it's not going to launch with them.
7. PS4 has 500gb HDD, and you can change it like with the PS3. If it's a true analogy, that means it's not proprietary.
8. If you care about the camera, it looks pretty awesome.
9. YOU CAN CUSTOMIZE YOUR DYNAMIC MENU (home screen). She specifies customizing your layout, managing your downloads, and your social media stuff, straight from that screen. (Sorry, that made me happy).
10. You keep your PS avatar and username from the PS3, and you control your privacy settings.

Stupid youtube...

Nothing about HDD speed. I wonder if I'll end up better off swapping my PS3 HDD into the PS4.

Honestly, the pros/cons of each are pretty much balanced. 5400 is slightly slower, 7200 runs slightly hotter.

I'm going to guess it's 7200, but I doubt you'll see a huge performance boost switching to one if it isn't.

If you're moving into a download-heavy environment, I'm doubting many console players are going to have the cash ready to dump on the kind of memory you'd need to make a SSD worth it.

I have one of those Seagate Momentus XT or whatever hybrid drives in my PS3. I think it's 7200 RPM. I have no idea if it's a gain over a normal 7200 RPM drive in a console.

Oh, well a hybrid has an SSD section. The actual HDD portion of the drive will perform about the same as 5400 rpm drive (we're talking MAYBE 1 second off load times, which will technically save you a lot of time in the long run, but it's not time you'll notice).

But a SSD will have a much higher impact. They're just really freaking expensive. If you can decide what to install to which portion (as in, put the OS on the SSD), I'd be surprised if it wasn't a decent quality of life improvement. If you have the space, your priority installs could go there, too.

SSDs aren't nearly as expensive as they used to be. You can get a 256gig for less than $150.00 when they're on sale, which is pretty regularly. That's still a fair chunk more than a similarly sized rotational drive, but if you want the speed, you have to be willing to spend a little more.

I'm more concerned about the space, to be honest. It's not such a big deal now, since most people still use physical copies, but as we move into an increasingly digital age, losing that much space on your drive hurts.

In the context of a laptop or a game console, I'd go with a 1 TB 5400 HDD over a 256 GB SSD.
