I'm over it, I refunded my wifes copy 2 days ago via Amazon, I dont trust Origin on my pc atm. I picked up the Tropico 4 Complete on Steam(for her and me) if I want to do Simcity (I also play SimCity Social stupid FB game) Funny part is her account is still active, Im not sure if EA will disable it or not, we'll find out sooner or later.

I play the FB game also, haha. Need another neighbor?

I had origin installed back during BF3 Beta, Its not that Origin is bad, but I don't agree with EA's policy's. Im not a Fan of how they are segregating the games up. Ubisoft has Uplay but has no problem having a small client so the games can be sold on Steam, also they at least give incentive to have another launcher (spending Uplay achievement points for Ingame freebies/wallpapers,etc) Also Other than chargebacks or malicious hacking, you cant have your Steam account banned and lose access to all your games. Where in lets say I posted something on an EA forum, a mod could suspend my account locking me out of all my games.

I mean hell my Steam accounts value (According to the online Calculator) Is approximately 2700 dollars worth of games.

Also, its a small QoL thing, I like to be able to have all my games present on one list. If I install steam it shows me all the games I have, or can install. If Im bored one day I can look through the list install one I may forgot I have and play it. Just like I keep all my PS1 games in a Binder, so I know everything I have, all my Ps2/3 games are on a shelf next to my Dvds/Bluerays.

I do have some DRM-free/outside Steam DRM games on Amazon and I constantly forget I even have them. Also having to remember to Install so many clients is annoying too, having Steam and Desura is kind of ok, But If you add every "launcher" out ther you would have tons of them (Steam, Desura, Origin, GMG Capsule, Gamestop has a client, Gamefly has a client, etc)

When I see a deal, if the DRM isnt "Steam" many times I wont buy the game, as to not let it slips through the crack, and forget I have it. Not to mention the amount of games I want to play from EA, that require Origin, I can count on 1 hand, and I have alternative DRM options if I wanted to play any of them (Most times) a PS3.

Yes you can add games outside Steam to its list, but only on that PC and if its Installed. Honestly It comes down to personal choice, and how I feel about it. It breaks down to me seeing no benefit from the extra launcher, the overall not liking of EA's business practices(They aren't the only company), and the forced segregation of games in general.

One day I may install it, but felt EA could have offered a smaller launcher like Uplay or GFWL in Steam. But until a "Must have" game is EA only I just dont see the urge.

Aren't all EA games Origin activated now? It's rough to avoid it now. I get what you're saying, but it seems like a worse QoL to not have it at all. I could absolutely be missing something though. I'd love to disable it for my games just to save the loading time...

I'm guessing when people say they don't like Western RPGs, they really mean they don't like the FPS RPG hybrid that Western RPGs carry to appeal to the non JRPG crowd. Not so much the Western RPGs' storylines.

Dragon Age (to a lesser extent, not quite the same as the previous)

They probably dislike it even more because the gameplay style has permeated itself into other game series that have traditionally been more JRPG. And after the PS2's massive traditional RPG offerings, they see what happened with the current gen and blame Western RPGs for the downfall.

I guess that makes sense. I honestly don't really think of much beyond "it was made in the west" when I hear "Western RPG" nowadays. There's just too much diversity. I know they probably have character designs that are less akin to anime. But that's not a rule. Beyond that, idk.

It may be that I don't typically gravitate towards any particular style, so I'm not sensitive to the features of that style. My favorite RPGs of all time include: Skyrim/(Obliv/Morrow), Mass Effect (1-3), Dragon Age Origins (and I did like DA2, though I see why others wouldn't), Kingdom Hearts 1 &2, Final Fantasy X, KotOR. This isn't meant to be a comprehensive list, it's just what happens to be coming to mind right now. We have Action J-rpgs, classic J-rpgs, and W-rpgs (action, strategic, and fps).

I'm generally most sensitive to the story of an RPG though, particularly where characters are concerned. Do that well, and I can be very forgiving of everything else.

That said, BeanX, you should really try Dragon Age Origins. For one thing, the combat is strategic--it plays very similar to an MMO. Except you can control up to 4 characters and you can pause while you plan your attack. Don't have to, though--you can let the AI manage. You can micromanage however much you want. But it gives you decent choices when it comes to building your team of characters, you manage their equipment, and it has a solid central story, interesting/expansive world, and a strong cast of characters.

My husband and I have played it all day today. I think it's pretty much fixed now. Still needs a bit of work, but it's playable and fun.

I can't help but notice your list is Playstation 2 and newer. Kind of curious about that.

I shouldn't have asked. Now I feel old. Just kind of a curious anomaly to me, as I've never really seen a list of favorite rpgs that didn't have an SNES or PS1 entry.
