Thankfully I don't remember my login info, and it's long gone, lol.

I tried playing Dota2 this morning, but I suck on a good day, and my connection to the host was shoddy. Latency and lag spikes and a kiting hero mean death.

I picked up the new "3d" (really it is just foreground and background) Ecco the Dolphin on the eshop yesterday. Fun times. I now own the damn game on 3 platforms and will still probably never beat it.

I linked my FFXI account to my new SE account that covers FFXIV back before I quit FFXI, so every time I log into the system I see my old FFXI character and mule sitting there waiting for me to activate them again.

Ha no, the game is too Square Enix to go F2P.

F*ck me, I just re-bought Dark Souls for the PS3 (having traded in the old one a year ago).

I never got around to playing the first that much. Can anyone give me some beginner pointers?

Keep away from everything that can kill you. Unplug your network cable before starting so you can get used to the game without getting Ganked 5 minutes in.

Stick with it. You will suck at first. But the combat system is actually extremely precise and once it clicks so rewarding.

I'm trying to come up with some tips without making to long a list but I will probably fail so pure stream of conscious:

-Lock on and block was the easiest style to pick up for me first. On gamepad you lock on with L3. Later you will not need to lock on as much and with some weapon skill sets 2Hing a weapon and ranging or circling around can be better. But turtleing up is ok at first. You dont regen stam while blocking so get used to letting go in between enemy attack some and moving back until you have stam.

-Weight: -25% of max load = fast move fast flip -50% = medium movement medium flip, after that it is FAT Roll. Slow. Happy medium for new players is probaly under 50% with enough poise to not get stunned to much. And a shield with enough stability. Later when you are pro fast ninja flipping with wood grain ring is great fun, especially with a havels ring so you can maintain some poise at least.

-Good weapons you can get early:
-Winged Spear (Dex build) Graveyard
-Zweihander (STR build) Graveyard
-Claymore (Everything build love claymore) On Wyvern bridge after Taurus demon guarded by...wyvern FIRE BURNS
-Uchigatana (best katana in the game Oh dat 2H spam and the way it eats bosses) Kill the undead merchant in Lower after you get enough stuff from him or wait and buy from Shiva. (just kill him Uchi is Sex)
-Drake Sword: Just don't. yes you can get it from the drake tail shooting it with arrows. But its OP when you get it and will teach you bad habits. If you are really stuck on you first play well then ok get it. Until you level up some then upgrade one of the better weapons above.

Tons of other weapons and tips that, should get you started though. I'm about 2/3's of the way through on my current run. It's like my 5th or 6th Oo

*I'll edit that mess for readability and errors later, but I'm on lunch now and don't have time. :)

Since it levels with the upgraded flame, Pyromancy is useful for most builds regardless of stat allocation. Combining pyromancy with a high HP build can make you a lot more comfortable. Combine this with a Lightning, Fire or non scaling boss/dragon weapon for good damage while maxing your survivability. Power within is a bit of a pain to get to as a new player, but is worth the effort once you get the hang of the game. Certain bosses are immune to Fire, so try to prepare for that possibility. Early on, Quelaag is either highly resistant or immune, beyond that, the problem lies in the demon ruins section, but you should have a lightning weapon by then.

As mentioned, go mid-roll with as much poise as you can reasonably muster as a newish player. There are break points where certain weapons will need two hits to break your guard, but that's less to worry about for PvE.

I think that the most important thing to remember is to play the game like an RPG. When a challenge is getting the best of you, level grinding and equipment upgrades are often a damn good option. Someone, likely either Vaatividya, EpicNameBro or AGermanSpy did a video where they showed the scaling difficulty on gargoyles(a boss a lot of newbies have trouble with) simply by taking them on with no upgrades and NPC summons vs having both. It's like night and day.

Finished SR IV the other day. It was a good but uneven ride. The story, as it unfolded through the missions and side missions, was pretty good, very funny at times and an interesting bow on the series (although it makes you wonder where they take the franchise from here). Game play wasn't quite as solid. Some parts were fun like the super powers* but then they'd shoehorn in some ****** platforming mechanics that were just tedious. I don't know why you play the Saints Row games but it's probably not for 3D platforming, lame hacking minigames or playing some poor man's version of Audiosurf. Later in the game, you're forced through the same mechanics a second time even if you avoided all the voluntary instances of them up to that point. There's also some design choices that get old such as the eternal night of Steelport and (intentional) graphic flickering. If you've played (and liked) previous games in the series, you'll probably want to play this one just to see what they do with it and the call-backs. If you never have, most of that would go right past you and you're just stuck with a pretty uneven experience. Also, if you never have go buy a $5 copy of SRTT already at least, weirdo.

*I still prefer guns and carjacking to the super powers and lasers but once I just accepted that part for what it was, it was well done and fun in its own way

Anybody playing EQ2? If so, what server?

I'm burnt out on Rift for the moment, and looking for another MMO to waste time.

Everfrost is where I once spent my time on EQ2... I think Cyliena still plays as well on that server. Calthine and Bludwyng are on Antonia Bayle.

But if you needed help with something I have 3 or 4 characters 80+, and can do some crafting.

Picked up Brothers during the Steam sales. Completed that game. Worth the money. Only 3 hours but a good story. And the controls were pretty solid. Very little frustration.

Ending spoilers.
At the end, when the younger brother was going home by himself after the older brother died... he reaches the water, and can't swim. It's not until you use what used to be the older brother's controls that he is able to overcome his fear and then do everything else that the older brother did. The whole time you hear his voice, etc. Was a very good way to end it.

Picked up a bunch of sh*t in the sales. Ignored most of it and am still plugging away at Rogue Legacy. Debating picking up The Swapper and/or Deadlight before their flash sale is over.

Played and finished Of Orcs & Men last week. Fairly lightweight RPG where you play an orc & goblin trying to stop the human's war against them. Combat is Dragon Age-y where you can (semi)pause the action, switch between characters and assign them stances and attacks. There's a conversation wheel and some decisions to make but I don't think they really affect much, if anything.

The orc & goblin models/animation are well done, humans less so. Likewise, the two main characters are well voice-acted and everyone else ranges from barely passable to ridiculous. The pacing of the game is pretty poor with constant loading screens, fades, lengthy cut scenes, etc. I'd probably give it a low "B"; with some better voice acting and more attention paid to pacing it'd be a high "B" but it was an enjoyable play either way.

I've heard good things about this game.

At the insistence of my daughter I bought Don't Starve. Haven't downloaded it yet.

Risk of Rain is really ******* fun, and also really ******* hard. Great soundtrack, too. I'm kind of getting a bit tired of pixel art games recently, but this one has been worth it so far.

So if anyone picks up Risk of Rain, I highly suggest doing a playthrough on the Easy difficulty setting. It wasn't too bad, and by the time I'd beaten it on Easy, I'd unlocked I think 6 or 7 classes, plus a bunch of items. This gives you a variety of classes to try and see if a different playstyle works better for you.

I might have been able to beat it at the Medium setting earlier, but I got greedy and tried to farm up more items and ended up eating it pretty badly. The game does have controller support, though it's initially completely disabled, and even after enabling it some menus still have to be navigated with the mouse.
