Nah, I went human. I may have had hot pants colored the same as her flesh, though. I'm not on the highest setting by any means.

Actually, I think you start in some sort of short dress. The hot pants come later.

Is that game actually fun to back up the dress-up games?

Ok, I figured out TLW's question: "Does the game offer anything beyond elf panty fan service?"

It's a pretty standard MMORPG with action-style combat and nicely done graphics. I'm not keen on all the Asian inspired themes (Elin, cabbits, etc) but they're nicely drawn at least.

Quests are stock standard fetch quests with the "Bring me five eyeballs" stuff and "Go visit my brother two towns yonder" bits. There's a main story plot line which I've only followed very loosely beyond the quest objectives as it hasn't been very compelling. But the action game play isn't bad, progression has come quickly (so far, Mystic almost lvl 30 after a week) and the grouping usually isn't bad although people only seem to group for instance runs and fighting enough BAMs literally, "Big *** Monsters" for their quest objectives before leaving.

So it's nothing really special but it's fun enough for the time being. Fun enough for free, anyway.

IMO the combat is interesting enough for the genre to make it worth trying. I dont know if any other MMOs have combat like this, the only game ive played with a little different combat was AoC, but this game is better.

Yeah. Around the same time you get your mount, it seems.

The mount that you ride side-saddle. Smiley: laugh

If my elf didn't ride side-saddle, I'd feel obligated to scrub the horse each time she mounted up in those short dresses.

Take that however you will.

My Mystic is now level 32 and my Slayer 30, both doing the second instanced dungeon. I have a Lancer at 17 and parked any other alts. I have a bad habit of storing gear for the active alts (even worse when you're thinking "I could enchant with that" and so you save everything) so I can't afford to keep them more than one or two tiers apart. Cluttered enough with Tier 4/5 gear, God forbid I fill it with tiers 1-5.

I downloaded Tera Saturday night. I thought I should roll an Elin so I could name her Elinda. She'a a Sorc. I also rolled a Warrior. Can't remember the race but she has hooves.

Ranged attacks seem close but the Sorc was far more efficient at killing than the Warrior. Though the melee combat is a lot of fun.

I only got a glimpse of all the bells and baubles that were available. I didn't get into any crafting though I did a bunch of gathering. The Elin is a major dork - not sure I could over to the Steve Urkel run style or the long creepy fingers enough to sink much time into that toon. The Warrior toon was a good model though. She was kind of bad-***.

Dunno what y'all are on about, but I've been playing XCOM, and trying to have enough fun to make up for the extra $7 I paid for it.

It's got a lot of layers, what with the base building, soldier training, and whatnot, and they're deep enough to be worthwhile endeavors. Not so impressed with the combat right now, though. It's endlessly annoying that enemies get a free move once you happen upon them, and the cover system is straight-up broken (you can shoot through walls, no questions asked).

Assault, Heavies, and Support troops all seem really useful, and have cool abilities. Sniper, less so (at least, so far).

Consensus seems to be that crafting isn't worth it until you're max level or close to it. You gain gear too rapidly to spend time, money and energy making any. Of course, gathering might be worthwhile so you can do that crafting someday without starting from nothing.

So how does pvp work in Tera? Is there any world PvP?

There's several open world PvP servers. From what I hear, it's a great opportunity for your level 14 to get ganked by bored level 60's outside the first real newbie town.

Really, PvP ain't my bag but there's several servers for it and they seem fairly well populated. I gather that classes suffer from the usual balancing act between PvE and PvP but aside from that I only think about it when I get annoyed at one of the enhancement tiers on my gear being a PvP thing.

Yeah, i just dont get how world PvP works since we are all on the same side apparently (right?? I honestly havent read a quest or watched a cutscene so i may be way off)... Only world PvP games I've played are Rift, WoW and WAR, and they all had 2 distinct factions.

A friend mentioned he dabbled on the RP server so i kinda hunkered down there and will regret it if i'm missing out on good pvp, since I havent seen him play it yet.

Yeah, I was reading someone on the forums say the same. PvP seems "pointless" from a lore standpoint since there's no teams and all the races are supposedly allied against the same threat (and go through the same story of joining up with the commander in Velkia, etc). It'd be like WWII where random Allied soldiers killed their fellow Allied soldiers just for the hell of it and no one cared because, hey, open world PvP.

I believe all servers can have Guild vs Guild PvP which doesn't make more sense lorewise but at least is a little more organized than anything goes.

Gotta admit though, it would be nice to just end the life of that one guy stealing all your quest mobs. :P

I'm going to wait until everyone in here stops playing Tera to download it, and then complain that I don't have anybody to play with.

I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying the game tbh, I expected to go "MEH!" after about 10 levels and delete it. My priest is level 17 or so now it's going really well, even the priest combat is fun.

Too much talking about tera and too many pictures of skimpy costumes... so anyway I downloaded it. Smiley: rolleyes

The "go talk to so-and-so" back and forth stuff seemed a little overdone, and some of the voice acting makes me cringe. Mystic pet looks goofy, but he can sure take a pounding. I liked the blocking with the shield on the lancer. I have a horse now, so I might have to stick with this a little while. Smiley: lol

I dunno. Seemed like there was more than I was used to though.

GW2's questing isn't too terrible with back-and-forth traveling.
