Got my Slayer up to 21 and stalled out a little just because of finding groups for the big stuff.

So I plowed my Mystic up to 20 and was immediately in a basilisk group followed by a dungeon run (BoL). Was pretty fun times.

How was BoL? My sorcerer is 27 now, but I've yet to que up for that dungeon. I've actually been playing a couple of alts, trying to stay logged in to get the max number of valentines gifts. Just finished all the newb island quests on my slayer, and he left for the big city. So now I'm letting my pug popori priest sit idle... because pugs with pipes are cool.

It was fun. I have no idea what to compare it to. Took us maybe 40+ minutes, two boss fights and a bunch of rank & file toughies. Got a rare staff out of it for my Mystic and a rare sword for my Slayer (none in group so it went open roll). Plus a bunch of assorted other swag.

I've tried switching to alts after getting my four Valentines on my main but I never seem to get any more. But I only get crap anyway -- the main lesson from this event has been not to waste any real money buying keys.

Apparently keys are averaging about 100g to buy them on the broker/trading post/whatever its called in this world. So I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's actually nice that (even if its a limited time) cash shop items are being awarded.

I've opened a few of my stack of boxes (had almost 50)... just some consumable stuff, so you're not missing much if you dont use them.

Penny Arcade's review of A:CM told me everything I need to know.

I almost wish for more terrible games so I have more scathing reviews to read and make me giggle....

Been playing lots of the new fire emblem, still breeding/collecting/trading pokemon, playing final fantasy XI (though I am bordering on taking a break... But expansion is coming out!)... Played some dota 2 and predictably sucked though I think I'd like to try playing more... Did a couple stages of megaman 2 (boy nintendo hard games are more fun with vitual console save points!) some spider solitaire on my gameboy...uhhh probably other stuff, lol.

Yeah, I've used them and mostly gotten consumable junk. A couple rubies so it wasn't all bad but my point was that Elite status (subscription) comes with ten keys a month. I'm saying that this promotion has taught me that Elite status (for the keys) or buying keys from the cash shop would be foolish since most chests won't be worth it.

Ran BoL twice more last night. First time I got a nice robe/gown/sun dress out of it for my Mystic. Second time the leader invited some lvl 26 who screwed up the loot table because he was over-level and we only got one rare the entire run Smiley: rolleyes

Also, the Valentine's Day event was really poorly planned. Why would you want to encourage 24/7 idling on the server when you already have queues? Didn't affect me since I get to hop the line but hardly a great impression for the F2P'ers and Elites to see a five hour queue to get onto a server.

I DLd Tera and started playing last night and the combat is certainly refreshing. Not sure i like my choice of a Lancer, but so far it is pretty cool.

Once you get a hang of n00b Island, you can knock out a character to lvl 12+ in under two hours. Gives you an easy chance to experiment and see which ones you like.

It's also a little deceptive since I understand DPS for lancers, priests and mystics drops off pretty quickly after 20ish (I know it's starting to for my mystic) but whatcha gonna do?

Well, like basically every MMORPG I've ever played, eventually you hit a point where tanks and healers are uncommon and DPS classes are a dime a dozen.

The class selections sort of set the game up for this: you have two plate classes (Lancers, Berserker), two healers (Priest, Mystic) and four DPS classes (Slayer, Warrior, Archer, Sorcerer; two melee, two ranged). But as long as a tank is keeping the mob under control it's sort of academic whether the DPS is coming from 2m away or 30m away. Plus the natural inclination for players to pick DPS classes adding to the scarcity of the other core classes. Standard character Trinity imbalance. You'd think we'd be beyond that now.

Yeah, of course. In MMOs of the past I would usually play a tank because of that, but if I actually stick with this game I think I'll just be doing solo leveling and PvP, so maybe a DPS class would be a better fit.

Lancers are amazing tanks though. With patience you can solo things that would kill most people. On my war I had a duo buddy and we would take on bams that were meant for 5 mans, not wimpy ones like the first basilisks but high level 50+ ones that stomp peoples bones to dust heh. Was great fun. But I could never get my Lancer past about 15 because it feels slow as F to level them and no where near as fun as war was to me.

I'm sure they are, and as a tank I was pretty impressed with the implications for how it would play. The combat is very interesting.

I've finally broke my Warhammer Online habit so I'm not playing any MMO's right now. My latest routine has been a couple levels of Portal before bed and trying lots of demos. I jumped back into Skyrim last night - I plan on working on some quest collections, etc. Maybe I'll even buy one of the add-ons.

I'll be ready for Elder Scrolls Online to start.

Ah, MMORPGs... how I've missed your ******* crazy populations. The DPS classes who dart off to aggro stuff and prove how they don't need a tank, the tank who ******* that the healer isn't healing him when 70% of the mobs are aggro'd on the priest, the archer who can't sit for ten seconds without spamming arrows at the wall and running in circles...

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The only way I can think to force people to play healer classes is to give a 25% drop rate bonus to them exclusively.

I do it so I can do six instance runs in a row on my mystic and not let anyone die. Then jump on my slayer and watch three people die with a priest in the group.

I heal for people I don't know. The people I like, I let die and then point and laugh at them. It's "third grade" style love.

I kinda like playing the medic in TF2. He gets a healing gun.

So, my answer is to give them a gun.
