Should I buy a PS3Follow

The most compelling reason I have to buy a PS3 is to watch netflix with it. I'm guessing that's really not a good enough reason. I'd say "games" but I don't have enough time to play the games I already own so that seems like a weaksauce excuse.

Finally... if I don't get a PS3 is there another simple, no hassle way to hook up my wee little TV to netflix?

Your best bet would be a Roku box, they cost about $50.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend getting a PS3 just for Netflix.

If you're interested in it at all, the Wii U looks like it'll have some decent TV options.

And if you do happen to want a PS3, it's worth noting that it looks like a new, uber-slim model is on the way.

Wait, it's bad for him to get a PS3 but if it's a Wii U it's ok? Olorinus already said that he/she didn't have time to play games, so how does that help him?

Because the Wii U looks to have better movie/TV options.

If it's a wee little TV, you could just use a regular Wii. Only goes up to 480p resolution but I doubt you'd notice on a small screen.

Roku box would be cheaper though and provide a better image for less money since you're not gaming on it anyway.

I have the $60 Roku (the 720p HD one) and love it. You can get Netflix, Amazon, Hulu Plus, and there are ways to browse YouTube videos via a custom channel. There are a lot of free channels you can pick from, but many are kind of redundant in their offerings.

Of course, if you have a laptop or tablet or smartphone, you can probably just stream it to your TV. If you want a permanent hook-up, Roku is a good deal.

Damn I wish I would have known about that a few weeks ago. My mom wanted to have Netflix in her bedroom, so I had her buy a $90 blu-ray player. They don't own any blu-ray movies and they really aren't in to watching movies to begin with. Oh well...

They also have a Crunchyroll channel, if anime's your thing.

Roku has way too many channels for streaming things to your TV. If you aren't going to play games stick to a Roku. You can get a large number of the channels for free or some of their content for free. PS3 is not worth it for just netflix.

You might look into a used Nintendo Wii for netflix. The thing I don't like about netflix on Ps3 is every time Sony puts a new software update out (which is quite often it would seem) you have to update the system software in order to use netflix. It can take awhile to update and its annoying when you just want to watch a quick tv show and have to spend 15 minutes updating your system software.

I have never had to update the NEtflix on the Wii and the wii controller makes it easy to navigate. The Xbox 360 can watch netflix but it requires you pay for Xbox Gold which is bull.

I was also considering a wii, because, Zelda, but I didn't know they have netflix too. That's awesome. Also, I doooo WANT to play games, but I end up spending most of my gaming time playing XI, so I've come to the conclusion it is largely pointless to buy new games because I never finish them.

Also thanks for reminding me of that fronglo, I have a PSP and every time I want to buy a digital game I have to go through update hell.... yeah, blerg F that.

Also with the Wii U coming out, I bet there will be a lot of Wii on the used market soon.

As for the Roku I'm just worried that because I live in Canada it will be super disappointing in terms of additional offerings. So I would rather have a Netflix box that can also play games vs a netflix box that can also surf youtube.

This article seems decent enough in detailing the pros and cons of the Roku in canada.

Definitely not as appealing as it is in the US, but it really comes down to your preferences, I think.

I am now leaning towards an xbox.... the people at gamestop said wii games would make me sh*t myself they are so bad.

PS3 seems too pricey. Also, advantage to xbox is I could pick up some used XI discs and occasionally log in to XI through it. I know I know, consoles suck etc, but I have a rad little nook set up with a bed all cozied in, and I sit at a computer all day at work so, I just feel like not being on a computer sometimes. Also my computer is a noisy mega beast so it would be nice to keep it switched off more.

However... now I need to look up if I can put the xbox on wifi.... because forget having a wire running across the room.

Meh. I think I want nothing (except a beer). I'm just too tired for even retail therapy.

Knowing Microsoft, you probably have to purchase a wireless receiver for the XBOX or some ****. Plus, you then have to pay what, $50 or $60 a year for XBOX Live Gold if you want to watch Netflix on it.

You are correct on both accounts, sir. The only 360 that has built in Wifi is the Slim model.

New slim model PS3 has been announced. 250-300 depending on HD size. There's a bundle with Uncharted 3, which is a pretty damn good game. Just for Netflix it's a bit much, but there are a few pretty good exclusive games if you can find the time to play them.

They are 250 for the 160 gigs here now, without a game.

It's a pretty high pricepoint. Still, tempted. But probably not tempted enough to get past the sticker shock,

You can get smart tv's now that have wifi built right into them. I'm not sure about their gaming capabilities though.

MGS4, Demons Souls, Dark Souls, Metal Gear: Ground Zeros are more reasons to buy a PS3. Hell, I bought my ps3 just so I could play mgs4.

eh, I am not a fan of shooters or really dark games. I basically play RPGs and strategy and not hard ones either. (Demon souls is not a game for me) I don't even know what MGS4 is. Yeah, realize this is marking me as a noob but w/e.

I picked up a gamecube compatable wii for under 100 bucks, and grabbed Last Story to boot. Last story is awesome!

Also. I officially hate the people who work at EB games, they had this whole row of xenoblade boxes out, so, I buy the wii and then go there to grab a game.

"Oh we don't have any copies of that" they say when I bring it to the counter.

"Well then why do you have 10 boxes on the shelf" I say.

"Well we had nothing else to put there."

"When are you getting more?"

"Uhhhh.... I dunno, let me check. We haven't gotten any for a month."

Waits.

"Oh, it's been discontinued, maybe you could buy it online."

Me: RAGE.

It's a good thing Last Story is so good.
