UbiSoft is ending their "always on" DRM including the activation limits. Good news for those who held out and avoided their games due to the DRM. Maybe someday I'll pick up a copy of Anno 2070 one of these days should it ever go on sale below 50%.

Edit: Heh, "Scrapping" =/= "Scraping". Maybe they're scraping the suck off of their DRM.

Maybe someone pointed out that their claimed rate of 95% piracy was because regular copies of the game tend not to work due to the damn DRM.

In other gaming news: EA president wants every game released to have an online aspect.

Ubisoft is only tying their shoelaces until they find another way to shove their foot up the PC Gamer community's collective ass.

Oh, of course. Probably something along the lines of "suprise, all our new games only work with windows 8, and remeber that little Windows 8 sends a list of all installed software on it back to microsoft feature? Yeah, that's our new license manager. "

I read about this a few days ago, don't get excited. They're countering the always on DRM with a major shift to DLC and micro transactions. They don't care if you pirate it since you're going to be constantly nickeled and dimed anyway.

Wow, there's seriously NO redeeming quality to Windows 8, is there...?

There really isn't any redeaming quality to windows 8 so far. There are a few minor improvements (such as better SSD interaction and an improved file explorer) but thats about it. Put those same pieces in windows 7 and it would outsell 8.

gaben and pardo have called windows 8 'a disaster for pc gaming.' i heard some damn podcaster say something like, 'oh it won't be that bad... they're probably just mad that microsoft will have their app store be more prominent than steam or battlenet and it's going to cut into their sales.' i wanted to choke her through my mp3 player.

Well, to be fair, gaming does have a bit of a hivemind culture, and when something is good or bad, people tend to gravitate to and voice this opinion pretty openly.

A lot of people are saying Windows 8 is terrible. And I'm sure the majority of them believe it. But at the same time, I think there's a significant portion jumping on the Windows 8 Hate Train. People tend to exaggerate and overstate, and then jump on board with the others already exaggerating and overstating.

That said, I'm not looking forward to 8.

I honestly haven't heard much about Windows 8 in terms of gaming, I just have found the features highly disadvantageous for desktop use. I simply don't understand why they would turn a touch-based interface for smartphones into a frickin' desktop interface.

I don't like how the start menu is a resource hog that's always running. I don't like how the start menu is really just a pathetic way for Windows to load in bloatware. I don't like how you're either seeing a few of your programs or ALL your programs when you navigate to the start menu.

I don't like how you can't search for simple features from the start menu (like "uninstall" or a file). One of the best features of W7 is its search feature. Why the hell would they go from that awesome, unified system to one that forces you to search from different places depending on what you need?

Y'know, there's really no reason to keep on with this. There aren't really any features of the OS I like. I guess it looks chic, but not nearly as good as the phone interface, particularly since it was designed with AMOLED screens in mind....

Vista was far from optimal. But it wasn't a complete failure. Windows 8... yeah no.
